After Julia’s first child is born, the movie doesn’t hand her the usual “miracle” scrapbook. Instead, she’s convinced something is off with her baby. Her family and the doctors keep trying to talk her into it. Everything’s fine. She should be happy. The problem is she can’t make that feeling go away.
So the house becomes a testing ground: she watches, questions, and slowly treats her own reality like it might not be trustworthy. The scary part isn’t that people doubt her. It’s that the doubt gets louder, and the “normal” explanations start sounding like scripted comfort.
“Mother’s Baby” is maternal anxiety turned into pure atmosphere. Quietly brutal, often unsettling, and definitely not here to reassure you.

Julia kommt nach der Geburt ihres ersten Kindes nicht zur Ruhe. Nicht wegen Romantik, nicht wegen „endlich ist alles gut“. Sondern weil ihr Baby sich für sie einfach falsch anfühlt. Egal wie oft Familie und Ärzte ihr versichern, dass alles normal ist und sie gefälligst glücklich sein müsste, dieser Knoten im Bauch bleibt. Sie beobachtet, vergleicht, zweifelt. Und während andere die neue Normalität feiern, wächst in ihrem Haus das Gefühl, dass da etwas Fremdes mit am Tisch sitzt.
„Mother’s Baby“ ist weniger Thriller mit großen Knallern als ein enger, mieser Druck von innen. Sehr nah dran an dem Gedanken, den man eigentlich lieber verdrängt. Und ja, das macht unangenehm Spaß.
