If you like your fantasy with rulebooks and at least one eyebrow-raise, Red Sonja has you covered. Sonja is a genuinely talented sword fighter, but there’s a curse stapled to her whole vibe. She can’t love a man unless he defeats her in battle first. So yeah. Romance. But make it a sparring match.

While Sonja’s trying to keep her feelings in check, the real threat is Queen Gedren. She’s got the evil plan to end the world, and she already has the Talisman needed to do it. Sonja’s answer? Endless fighting with Gedren, like “contact sport” is a lifestyle choice. Enter Kalidor, the smart guy who might help Sonja turn raw rage into an actual strategy. Whether the movie sticks the landing is another question, but the fight energy is never subtle.

Red Sonja ist dieser seltene Mix aus Fantasy-Zeitlupe und “bitte nicht schon wieder”-Fluch. Sonja ist eine richtig begabte Schwertkämpferin, aber ihr Leben läuft nach einer ziemlich absurden Regel: Sie kann keinen Mann lieben, es sei denn, er schlägt sie vorher im Kampf. Romantik als Turnierdisziplin. Süß.

Und dann wartet schon die nächste Baustelle. Die böse Königin Gedren steckt nicht nur Drama in den Knochen, sondern hat auch den Talisman, der die Erde ruinieren soll. Sonja und Gedren? Dauer-Clinche bis einer umfällt. Vielleicht hilft ja der smarte Kalidor dabei, dass Sonja nicht nur gut kämpft, sondern endlich auch das große Problem erledigt. Spoiler: Das Filmtempo ist eher Klinge als Gefühl. (Bewertung: na ja.)
