Kate Carter used to chase tornadoes. Then she lived through the kind of close call that makes you quit, move to New York City, and pretend the sky can’t hurt you. Unfortunately, her boyfriend Javi has other plans. He brings her back to Oklahoma to test a brand-new storm-tracking setup. It’s “cutting-edge technology.” It’s also the quickest way to make your past trauma feel like a group project.

On the ground, she collides with Tyler Owens, a charming, reckless social-media storm celebrity with a whole crew cheering him on. His rule is simple: the more dangerous the storm, the better the content. Naturally, once the season really kicks in, things stop being normal and start being terrifying. Multiple systems converge over central Oklahoma, and suddenly everyone is chasing the same deadly paths for the most basic reason possible: they want to get out alive.

Twisters has loud thrills, not quiet thoughts.

Kate Carter hat Tornados einmal zu nah gesehen und sich danach in New York City auf Bildschirme zurückgezogen. Karriere gemacht hat das jedenfalls nicht. Ihr Freund Javi zieht sie trotzdem nach Oklahoma, um ein neues Ortungssystem zu testen. Klingt nach Science, fühlt sich aber schnell nach „wer macht die dämlichste Wette“ an. Denn dann taucht Tyler Owens auf. Charme, Kamera, Crew. Er postet Sturmjagd wie andere Leute Urlaubskarten. Und ja, je schlimmer es wird, desto mehr Klicks.

Mit der Sturmsaison eskaliert die Sache. Plötzlich stehen mehrere Sturmsysteme gleichzeitig auf dem Plan, und verschiedene Teams konkurrieren nicht nur um die beste Aufnahme, sondern ums reine Überleben, während alles um sie herum auseinanderbricht. Twisters ist nicht elegant, aber ziemlich treffsicher im Entertainment-Modus.
