NASA’s Artemis II astronauts have returned to Earth after becoming the first crew to circle the Moon in over 50 years. Watch the dramatic Pacific Ocean splashdown, the intense 2,800°C re-entry, and the emotional moments as history is made.

🚀 What happened in this mission?
The Orion capsule splashed down off California on Friday, carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The 10-day flight tested critical systems for future lunar landings – including Orion’s heat shield, navigation, and life support.

🌕 Historic firsts covered in this report:

First person of colour to travel around the Moon (Victor Glover)

First woman (Christina Koch)

First non-American (Jeremy Hansen)

🎙️ Key moments:
Commander Wiseman’s radio call – “We got a great view of the Moon…” – and NASA chief Jared Isaacman confirming: “We are back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon.”

00:04Hello and welcome to Global Pulse News.
00:08A historic Moon mission has ended with a safe splashdown.
00:12NASA's Artemis II crew is back on Earth and they've just made history.
00:18NASA's Artemis II astronauts have returned safely after becoming the first crew to circle the Moon in more than 50
00:26years.
00:27The Orion capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California at 5.07 p.m. local
00:35time on Friday.
00:36That followed a fiery high-speed re-entry through Earth's atmosphere.
00:41Recovery teams moved in fast, securing the capsule and bringing the four astronauts aboard.
00:48Inside were NASA's Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, along with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
00:57Just before re-entry, Commander Wiseman radioed mission control.
01:01We got a great view of the Moon out window two. Looks a little smaller than yesterday.
01:08Houston's reply, guess we'll have to go back.
01:11The 13-minute descent was brutal.
01:14Orion slammed into the atmosphere at extreme speed, its exterior heating up to nearly 2800 degrees Celsius.
01:22That is hot enough to create a plasma layer which briefly cut off communications with the crew.
01:28Then, parachutes deployed. The capsule gently hit the ocean.
01:34Crew members reported only minor communication issues and were otherwise in good condition.
01:39NASA Chief Jared Isikman spoke from a recovery ship.
01:43We are back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon, bringing them back safely and set up for
01:50a series more.
01:51The 10-day journey took the crew farther from Earth than anyone since the Apollo era.
01:57They tested critical systems for future lunar missions, including Orion's heat shield, navigation, and life support.
02:05This flight also broke new ground.
02:08Victor Glover became the first person of color to travel around the Moon, Christina Koch, the first woman, and Jeremy
02:16Hansen, the first non-American.
02:18During the mission, the crew reported vivid details of the lunar surface, a solar eclipse, and even meteorite impacts.
02:27Commander Wiseman reflected,
02:29What we really hoped is that we could for just a moment have the world pause and remember that this
02:36is a beautiful planet in a very special place in our universe.
02:40And every morning of their journey, NASA sent the crew a song.
02:45On Friday, they woke up to Run to the Water by Live and Free by the Zac Brown Band, a
02:52fitting soundtrack for a crew that just made history and came home.
02:57Artemis 2 is now paving the way for Artemis 4, the first lunar landing since Apollo.
03:04Engineers will spend the coming weeks analyzing every second of this critical test flight.
