Redemption is the kind of town where “turning over a new leaf” lasts exactly until the first bar fight. Thomas Keller, a reformed gunslinger, is trying to do right by his past. Then Ben shows up, all manic energy and questionable plans. The pair get guided by spiritual leader Jericho toward “vindication,” which sounds wholesome until you realize it’s basically a polite way to walk them into trouble. Predictably, the violent history catches up fast. There’s a brutal pub brawl, and from there the conflict turns deadly, dragging Thomas, Ben, and the infamous Five Points Gang into a revenge spiral that does not care about personal growth. With Stephen Dorff and Nicolas Cage doing their thing, this one is rough, loud, and kind of charming in a bad idea kind of way.

Redemption ist so eine Stadt, in der man „Neuanfang“ sagt und sofort knallt. Thomas Keller, ein reformierter Revolverheld, will es endlich besser machen. Dann stolpert auch noch Ben dazu. Der ist weniger „Hilfe“ und mehr wandelnde Problemzone. Und als wäre das nicht genug, nimmt spiritueller Führer Jericho beide an die Hand und schickt sie zur Wiedergutmachung. Spoiler: Das endet nicht in Therapie, sondern in einer Kneipenschlägerei, die aussieht, als hätte jemand den Gewaltregler auf Maximum gestellt. Ab dann eskaliert die Sache mit der Five Points Gang zur tödlichen Fehde. Stephen Dorff und Nicolas Cage liefern dabei genau die Art von zweifelhaft unterhaltsamem Western-Nerv, bei der man kurz schmunzelt. Dann wieder nicht.
