“Happy Holidays” sounds like a nice, warm postcard. The movie is more like that card, left out in the rain. In Haifa, family plans are never private. Rami is dealing with the fact that his Jewish girlfriend refuses an abortion, and he’s not exactly ready to sign up for parenthood right now.

Of course, his mother can’t just support him emotionally. She turns the whole thing into a money problem by pushing for compensation connected to a car accident involving Fifi. Meanwhile, Miri is juggling her niece’s worrying state and quietly working on another angle: she’s considering aborting her sister’s pregnancy, and yes, it’s also aimed at wrecking the relationship between Rami and his girlfriend.

Then there’s a car accident. Nothing flashy. Just enough to set the fragile setup on fire, one uncomfortable reveal at a time.

Haifa bei Feiertagslicht, aber bitte ohne Frieden. Rami schwebt nicht gerade in Harmonie, weil seine Freundin schwanger ist und eine Abtreibung ablehnt. Klar, dass das der perfekte Startpunkt für Chaos ist. Seine Mutter haut noch eine weitere Baustelle drauf: Sie fordert eine Entschädigung nach einem Unfall, und plötzlich wird jede kleine Entscheidung zur Verhandlungssache.

Und dann ist da Miri. Sie kümmert sich nicht nur um die Tochter ihrer Schwester, die wie aus der Spur geraten wirkt, sondern plant nebenbei auch einen Schwangerschaftsabbruch. Allerdings nicht als reine Menschlichkeitsnummer, eher als sozialen Schachzug gegen Ramis Verbindung.

Ein Autounfall passiert. Klingt nach Randnotiz. Ist es aber nicht. Ab da bröckelt alles, was vorher noch wie „Familie“ aussah.
