Echo Valley sells you “quiet life in a pretty place” right up until it absolutely doesn’t. Kate runs her isolated horse setup like it’s a control panel for her emotions. Then her daughter shows up at the doorstep, terrified, shaking, and covered in someone else’s mess. The scary part isn’t the blood. It’s the truth that comes with it, and how quickly Kate’s careful routine stops mattering. Suddenly, it’s a question of loyalty with teeth: how far will she go to protect her child, and what will it cost her on the way there? The film keeps things tense and deliberately uncomfortable, even when it’s a bit vague about how everything got so bad. With a Rotten Tomatoes score hovering around the low-mid range, it’s not exactly a crowd-pleaser. Still, it’s the kind of thriller that makes family feel like a loaded weapon.

Echo Valley ist so ein Film, bei dem die Idylle nur so lange funktioniert, bis jemand blutüberströmt an die Tür klopft. Kate lebt zurückgezogen, kümmert sich um Pferde und versucht, ihre Gedanken sauber zu halten. Dann kommt ihre Tochter. Frightened, zitternd, mit einer Tat so schief im Bild, dass Kate plötzlich nicht mehr nur auf Reitbahnen achten kann. Die Frage ist nicht, was passiert ist. Sondern: Wie weit geht man wirklich, wenn das eigene Kind in Gefahr steckt. Regisseurisch bleibt der Film nah am Nervenkitzel und weniger an Erklärungen. Bei 52% Rotten Tomatoes weiß man aber: Der Weg dorthin ist nicht immer elegant. Aber spannend ist es trotzdem, zumindest für Leute, die sich gern durch familiären Albtraum treiben lassen.
