Earth explodes. No warning, no cosmic handshake. After that, Andriy, a Ukrainian space trucker, is left as the last human being in the universe. Which sounds impressive until you realize it also means: no audience, no distractions, just infinite emptiness and one guy trying to stay sane.

Then Catherine calls. A French woman, stationed far away, on a remote space outpost. One conversation later and Andriy decides to meet her, despite the obvious problems that come with traveling anywhere when your only job description is “survive the void.”

This one plays like a heartfelt, dark-humored reply to existential sci-fi like “2001”, “Solaris”, “Dark Star”, and “Moon”. It’s all about mortality, loneliness, and the weird, universal need for another human voice to cut through the nothingness. The ending might lean bleak, but it doesn’t fully commit. There’s warmth in the silence. Annoyingly, in a good way.

Erde weg. Nicht poetisch, eher so richtig. Danach gibt es für Andriy, ukrainischer Weltraumtrucker, nur noch eine Sache: das Universum, und er als einzige Person darin. Klar, die Stille ist groß. Bis das Telefon klingelt. Catherine, eine Französin von einer weit entfernten Raumstation, ruft an. Und plötzlich wird aus „am Ende sein“ wieder „hingehen“, auch wenn jede Logistik dagegenarbeitet.

„U Are the Universe“ ist Science-Fiction mit Herz, aber ohne Glitzer-Trainingsjacke. Schwarzer Humor inklusive, existenzialistische Stimmung auch. Das Ganze fühlt sich an wie eine Antwort auf Filme wie „2001“, „Solaris“, „Dark Star“ und „Moon“. Sterblichkeit, Einsamkeit, Sehnsucht. Und ja, selbst wenn am Ende alles ziemlich nihilistisch klingt, bleibt da noch was Menschliches hängen. Gerade deshalb wirkt es weniger wie Weltuntergang, mehr wie ein letzter Anlauf zur Nähe.
