00:27We came here, we have done this 150 years of Patel, Saldar Balbhai Patel's artworks
00:36in combination with 150 years of birth anniversary of Saldar Balbhai Patel.
00:42So in this 80 students are involved and we have done 150 artworks and these artworks,
00:48we brought them to Gujarat and Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat because we want to see
00:54that it is the land of Patel, so we thought that we should exhibit here.
00:58We started our exhibition at Vizag, inaugurated by Salja Kiranmam and now we have been brought
01:05here.
01:05Padma Shree Karthik Sarabai has inaugurated this exhibition and Mr. Anil Rilleya, the famous
01:14art collector of artists of Ahmedabad has visited and appreciated our children.
01:19And many people have visited us including people from ISKCON, from other artists here
01:26locally and they appreciated the artworks especially by children from 6th class to 10th class and
01:32doing such a great wonderful work.
01:33So, what feedback you are getting, what feedback you are getting about the exhibition?
01:41Yeah, exhibition we have got a very good feedback and some people came yesterday and asked us
01:46to keep this exhibition in the Balbhai Patel's hometown in the village where he has been born
01:51and brought up there and in a school there and they all appreciated the wonderful work by
01:59the children especially from the classics to class.
02:04Ironman of India, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, you can see in different shades black and white.
02:09The way Sardar Patel lives for the country in black and white.
02:13And we have Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan and we have Vasu Prakash Jivit as a director.
02:19Vasuji, you've been to Ahmedabad for the last two days and in this three-day exhibition,
02:24you are portraying Sardar Patel in black and white, the architect of India.
02:28How the idea comes in your mind?
02:32As 150 years of Sardar Vallabhai Patel's birth anniversary, we thought that 150 years,
02:39150 artworks should be done for his combination of this 150 years birth anniversary.
02:46So, we made with 80 students 150 artworks and this came into a beautiful art effects by the children.
02:52And we have done it in Vishakh Vatnam and now we thought that it is the land of Patel, Gujarat.
02:58So, we thought that we should bring it here to Gujarat and we have done it here.
03:02So, any reason to portray Sardar Patel in just black and white?
03:08We thought that pencil sketches, the olden days, most of the photographs are black and white.
03:15The original color photographs we don't have.
03:17And so, the art effects would be more effective and elegant in the black and white in charcoal and pencil
03:27drawings.
03:27Sir, we can also communicate with one of the students who portrayed Sardar Patel.
03:33Very famous picture of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
03:36So, what comes in your mind when you portrayed such a big personality?
03:41The country, sir, as he is the one who united the country and he was the reason now India is
03:48like this.
03:49So, India will be the first thing that will come to our mind when I am thinking about him.
03:54Sir, from Vishakh Vatnam to Ahmedabad, you just landed two days back and you have been facilitated by Sardar Patel
04:01in different moods.
04:02And it is a, you have created the re-history, recreate the history and in the black and white.
04:08So, any special thing, any special thing about hosting in Ahmedabad?
04:17Because Ahmedabad is the land of Patel.
04:19He is from Gujarat.
04:20So, we started here and want to exhibit here in Gujarat.
04:24So, we selected this Konovri Art Center where it is one of the good art galleries of Ahmedabad.
04:30And so, we started exhibiting here.
04:33And yesterday, Mr. Kathik Vatnam Sarabai has been inaugurating this art exhibition here.
04:41So, when people come to see, he is a man from this land.
04:45What are their feedback about seeing Sardar Patel in the black and white?
04:50We were very happy to see Sardar Vallabhai Patel's black and white.
04:55And where is your picture?
04:57Can you say something about your picture?
04:59This is Sardar Vallabhai Patel and Maulana Azhar with other Congress leaders and followers of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
05:06So, sir, you and your institutes recreate the history on the land of Sardar Patel.
05:11There are different black and white pictures.
05:14Which picture is your favorite and any reason for that?
05:19No, this is one of our very good picture which we have drawn.
05:22There are many good pictures.
05:23Every good picture is very…
05:26Every picture has its own story.
05:28And every picture is a very good picture.
05:31And children have been taking it.
05:33And it is not very easy to draw in a class 6 boy or a class 4 boy or a
05:40girl to draw this artifacts.
05:42They are not fine art students.
05:45But we make them this work because their observation skills, creativity skills and patience will improve to them.
05:55So, where is your picture and…
05:58This is my picture, sir.
05:59Okay.
06:00So, you go for the detailed expression, the mood of the Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
06:04How many…
06:05How…
06:06How much time you spend to create such a wonderful picture?
06:09Sir, this picture took like nearly three weeks to make, sir.
06:14This picture nearly took three weeks to make because it has more detail in it.
06:18Because like every detail is unique in it because it's so hard also to make it.
06:26From Visakhapatnam to Ahmedabad, what were your expectations to… about the exhibition?
06:34Yeah, we want to exhibit for local people here.
06:39As… as today also some forty to fifty children have visited already the exhibition.
06:44And around a hundred guests have been coming here to visit the exhibition.
06:48Everyone felt very happy in visiting the exhibition.
06:52What is your picture and what the picture says to us?
06:56This is my picture.
06:58This is my picture.
06:58And I drew Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and C. Rajagopalachari.
07:06Any significance because these are the whole historical tall personality of India.
07:11I would say that the significance of Sardar Vallabhai Patel is that he united the princely states into the Indian
07:21Union which made India stronger and like this today.
07:28Okay, so you have… your students have portrayed the Sardar Patel in a very kaleidoscopic view.
07:35The family man, the national man, you know, the home minister of India with the Gandhi associate, a Gandhi admirer.
07:44So, there are a lot of personality of Sardar Patel.
07:47So, how do you plan to portray Sardar Patel in a kaleidoscopic personality?
07:54We have collected first what are the available photographs for us and then we segregated them into his lifestyle right
08:02from his young age to the old age until he passed away.
08:06And then we have given them to the students so that they can know the history of Patel and accordingly
08:13they have drawn all the pictures.
08:15Where is your picture and what say… what is the specialty about that picture?
08:20Sir, this one, sir.
08:22This one, sir.
08:23Sir, actually Muslim…
08:25Sir, actually Muslims are going to another, I mean, another country like Pakistan now.
08:30So, that is the speciality of this picture.
08:38So, this is the partition time picture, your portrait.
08:41So, we have the Sardar Patel in black and white with the national history from freedom struggle to partition and
08:49to with the Gandhi discussion.
08:51So, sir, there are a lot of varied topics and you just mentioned that the students from 6th standard to
08:5910th standard.
09:00So, how you convince them to portrait Sardar Patel?
09:05This is not the first time we are doing this portraits of this.
09:09We have already done with portraits of Gandhiji, 150 portraits of Gandhiji earlier.
09:13And we have exhibited in IIC Delhi.
09:16And we have done already Netaji's portraits also and exhibited in MS University Baroda.
09:23So, this time we have selected this Patel's as 150 years of his birth anniversary.
09:28And so, we have asked the requested students who are interested and they voluntarily came.
09:34So, you are going to become… Art is not your core education, right?
09:39Yes, sir.
09:40So, what is your core education area?
09:44Sir, you mean like interests?
09:46No.
09:47Sir, first of all, from childhood I have interest in art, sir.
09:52So, secondly, I like to do other hobbies like singing and others, sir.
09:57Where is your picture?
09:58This is my picture, sir.
10:00So, this is Sardarwal by Patel and Manval Patel.
10:05Manval Patel is Sardarwal by Patel's daughter.
10:08And on occasion of Gandhiji's funeral, they are carrying the ashes of Gandhiji to mix in the Ganga rivers.
10:18And what's your name and where is your picture and why you choose that particular picture?
10:24My name is D. Varun.
10:25I am studying in class 8 and this is my picture.
10:28I had chosen this picture because it contains the raw emotions of Sardarwal by Patel.
10:34As it was a photograph where he is directly looking at the camera, where he was tired and he was
10:40still conscious.
10:43This image right here depicts his determination and consistency towards his agendas.
10:48And that is a fact that really inspires me to work hard and never give up.
10:52So, sir, there are 150 pictures of Sardarwal Patel which portrayed the national movement, his life and living of Sardarwal
11:02Patel.
11:03So, what is your next plan for any national hero for exhibition or about this exhibition to organize some different
11:11cities?
11:13As of now, we have exhibited in already in Vishakh Patnam where Shalja Kiran Garu has inaugurated it and now
11:20we have been doing it in Ahmedabad.
11:22As of now, we have been decided to do this and later we will be planning it up in the
11:27future.
11:28So, the Sardar Patel in Ahmedabad as you can find the different personality of Sardar Patel in 150 frame and
11:35he created a strong national frame for the future.
11:40I have drawn this picture because it shows Sardar Patel's patriotism towards India and he was the reason that India
11:49was, India is, how is it now?
11:52Because he united the 565 princely states of India.
11:59When 562 princely states were united, then Junagad, Kashmir and Hyderabad were left out.
12:06And those princely states were not agreeing to join India.
12:12But Hyderabad as it is in the place of the heart of India, so we needed that because a country
12:19can't exist in another country.
12:20So, Sardar Patel led Operation Polo to assist Hyderabad into our state.
12:28Along with that Junagad plebiscite was conducted and in Kashmir they united using agreements.
12:37So, I like this picture because it has detail and this we have made with the charcoal medium and this
12:47details, the foldings and everything we have done with the blenders. Thank you.
12:54Today, we are in Ahmadabad in Kanoria Center of Arts Gallery.
13:01So, we, Prakashites, did 150 artworks of Sardar Vallabha Patel on account of his 150th birth anniversary.
13:09So, this is my painting of Sardar Vallabha Patel.
13:14In this movement, Sardar Vallabha Patel was announced to be the Deputy Prime Minister of India.
13:20So, he went to his family and he was celebrating with his family.
13:26For this artwork, we used charcoal pencils, charcoal powder, blenders and electric erasers for the highlights.
13:34So, you have painted the Sardar Vallabha Patel, the first reaction when India is declared as an independent country.
13:44This is a wonderful idea.
13:45So, how you shape on into the painting?
13:50I mean, it's a really good painting.
13:53We learned a lot of things while we are doing, I mean, painting those paintings.
14:02We learned a lot of things.
14:04We learned, we gained knowledge.
14:07We learned teamwork also.
14:09We helped each other.
14:10And all this is done because of our art teacher.
14:13All of this could not have been done because of him.
14:17Like, we could not make this through at him.
14:20In this movement, I have been here with Vishakopatnam.
14:22I am already in the Kakshah Art.
14:25This is my painting.
14:27This is a painting.
14:28This is a painting called Burdoli Satya Grahak from the time.
14:30This is a painting.
14:32We looked at the Sardar Vallabha Patel.
14:35We looked at the Sardar Vallabha Patel.
14:36We thought the sun is a light source or light source.
14:46come out of the eye-brows, this is the patient of the eye-brows,
14:52very sharp.
14:53When the eye-brows is very sharp, it is very focused on the anger,
14:58we are very focused on the anger, because he is very focused on the face.
15:02He is the camera, because he is very tired,
15:09he is very tired.
15:09But when the face is very difficult,
15:11in this example, he still continues. Overall, he has no meaning. He has no meaning behind his friends.
15:28He has not just friends. He has come to help.
15:34This image is very important in my life because it was taken from the body of the body and it
15:44was mostly taken from the silver gelatinous film.
15:51This is so much. There are also paintings of 150.
15:56We get to see it.
15:58And we have done it.
16:26And just tell us about how you create such a beautiful image of Sardar Patel.
16:31Yes, sir.
16:32So as you can see, this is my portrait, sir.
16:34This is Sardarwal by Patel.
16:36And this is Manbal Patel, sir.
16:38So on the occasion of Gandhiji's funeral, they're both carrying the ashes of Gandhiji.
16:45They're both carrying the ashes of Gandhiji.
16:47And taking on marching to the Ganga River with others, sir.
16:51And to also mix the ashes into the Ganga River, sir.
16:56So the dark and light shades are based on the pressure you keep on the charcoal pencils.
17:01This whole painting is made of charcoal pencils and powder.
17:04So higher the pressure, darker the shades.
17:06Lower the pressure, lighter the shades.
17:09That's how I made my portrait.
17:10So you have saw the Sardar Patel with his daughter, Maniban.
17:15So any particular reason to selecting which Sardar Patel with his daughter?
17:21Sir, actually, sir, I like to draw more people.
17:24I like to draw more people.
17:27And not only just paintings, like drawings of Sardarwal by Patel.
17:31Why not another freedom fighter?
17:33Since this portrait is also related not only just Sardarwal by Patel,
17:37with his daughter and related to Gandhiji.
17:40I specifically chose this picture, sir.
17:42So any special reason to show the relationship of father-daughter?
17:50The bond is really strong, sir.
17:52That's what I can say.
17:53So this painting says a lot of things about the duo of father and daughter.
17:58And Sardar Patel is Iron Man, but his heart is always softened.
18:02This is my painting on Sardarwal by Patel.
18:05This painting was taken during the release of the newspaper of Bal Gangadaya Tilak.
18:11He is meeting with Bal Gangadaya Tilak during the inauguration of the newspaper.
18:15You can see people carrying out the newspaper and distributing it to the public in this period of time.
18:23So why any selection in Nigeria?
18:28We have actually seen a bunch of old newspaper articles and we have selected whichever one we like.
18:35We have already prepared a catalogue of all the old photos of Sardarwal by Patel and the people he has
18:42met.
18:42So out of that, there is a wide variety.
18:46So we have selected our own pictures.
18:52One second, sir.
18:53So how do people react after they see the paintings of Sardar Patel?
19:01I have observed some people and many people have told us that they feel very inspired after looking at these
19:08paintings.
19:10Some of these paintings depict Sardarwal by Patel's heroic nature and what he did for the well-being of our
19:17country.
19:23Namaste, I am Durga Pranati from Class 10 and we are from Sriprakash Vidyaniketan and we came here in Ahmedabad
19:30to display 150 paintings and charcoal drawings of Sardarwal by Patel.
19:36This year, he completes 150 years.
19:41So this is why we wanted to tribute to him.
19:45So we made 150 drawings of him.
19:48That is mine.
19:50What I did is I wanted to show his family because they say history is about maps, territories and power.
19:58But I wanted to show that history also could lie in the quiet moments of home.
20:02So I have his grandchildren and his own daughter Maniban Patel painted.
20:10So why I chose this painting is because I wanted to show everyone.
20:15They only concentrate about the iron man of India but they do not concentrate about his iron pillar who is
20:23Maniban Patel.
20:24She was really humble and simple though she was then home minister's own daughter.
20:31She led a very simple life that any one of us could imagine.
20:34So we are here in Ahmedabad for two days now.
20:38We have explored quite much.
20:40We went to the Sabir Mathia Ashram.
20:43It was really peaceful.
20:45We have been there for the three hours and after the three hours we got fresh air and our minds
20:51really felt so calm.
20:54And there we spun cotton and we also wrote postcards to our parents back home in Andhra Pradesh.
21:01This is a really fun experience.
21:03Thank you for visiting.
21:09So we have Sibhavagya with us and she made two pictures of Sardar Patel.
21:15And he, Faridi, now the colourful Kandori art has a different stroke.
21:24The black and white stroke but a personality, giant personality of India, Sardar Valdabai Patel.
21:29And we have seen Bhavagya with us and see portrait Sardar Patel in the black and white with the charcoal
21:35pencils and charcoal colours.
21:37Bhavagya, you have created two paintings of Sardar Patel.
21:41Can you explain how you choose the black and white and the personality Sardar Patel?
21:46So basically we all know that Sardar Valdabai Patel is Iron Man of India.
21:52So we all are here, Prakashites have done 150 artworks of Sardar Valdabai Patel because it is his 150th birth
21:59anniversary.
22:00So here it's not only about drawing the pictures and everything but we went to a beautiful ride of understanding
22:06his knowledge,
22:07sincerity towards forming the India, like the architect of India.
22:13I used dark and light sheets in my picture so that it would give a very good detailing.
22:19Yeah.
22:21And the other painting?
22:23This one, this one is the other painting.
22:25It is of Sardar Valdabai Patel with a side face.
22:28Here it just depicts his motivation and determination towards forming India.
22:35He actually formed 560, more than 560 princely states.
22:39Yeah.
22:41So your painting has lot of details of the expressions and, you know, his mood.
22:48Any plan to show the mood and characteristic?
22:54I mean, you're asking about the picture?
22:56Sure.
22:56Yeah.
22:56We used blenders and charcoal pencils.
22:59We mostly chose charcoal pencils because it's just like him.
23:03Strong, which is born in fire and grit, which would show his strongness and bold.
23:09Yeah.
23:10So you've been in Ahmedabad for since 2-3 days.
23:13What do you find, Sardar, any relationship with Sardar Patel and Ahmedabad city?
23:18Sardar, it is actually Sardar Valdabai Patel's birthplace.
23:21So there is also statue of unity, which is the statue of Sardar Valdabai Patel.
23:27And we had great time here, being here.
23:29Okay.
23:30Anything that you learn from the Sardar Patel's quality when you involve to recreate the Sardar
23:36Patel image on the painting?
23:38Yeah.
23:40His decision-making.
23:41It is very important to take decisions in particular situations.
23:45So I would actually take quality of Sardar Valdabai Patel in making decisions.
23:51So Sardar Patel, the young Jansi is select the Sardar Patel's best quality is decision-backing.
23:57And you can find in black and white portrait of the Sardar Valdabai Patel with the cameraman
24:02Mukesh Jodiya Parish, the VTV Bharat and Ahmedabad.
24:10You start your name and describe everything that you, your creation process.
24:16You are learning from the Sardar Patel.
24:18How is your today's experience?
24:20Everything.
24:22Shall I start?
24:23Namaste.
24:24My name is Mohisha.
24:25I am studying in seventh class in Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan Kaplupada branch.
24:31Today I have come with my painting.
24:33This, we have chosen charcoal because charcoal is created after burning.
24:40So burning means it's very strong and we chose it because Sardar Patel is very strong.
24:46He have joined a lot of princely states.
24:50Without him, our country would be with very less states.
24:54He was the Iron Man of India.
24:58So anything, any new thing you have learned when you are going through the process of recreating
25:04Sardar Patel in the black and white on the paper?
25:07Yes, I have learned to blend black and white charcoal things which is very new for me.
25:14Any quality from Sardar Patel as a personality?
25:19Yes, Sardar Vallabai Patel was very brave and strong during attaching our princely states.
25:26He was friendly with the states which agreed to join with our country.
25:34He was very strict and very stubborn with the states like Hyderabad and Kashmir which were not like agreeing to
25:41join with our princely states and our country.
25:46Abhiya.
25:47Abhiya.
25:48Abhiya.
25:48Hi.
25:49I'm Hansika Vemuri from grade 9, studying in grade 9 from Shri Pekai Shidyaniketan.
25:54And that is my picture, Sardar Vallabai Patel's portrait.
25:58It's actually a portrait in Sardar Vallabai Patel.
26:03It's drawn in charcoal because charcoal is made up of burning light so it's strong enough.
26:10It's in a black and white portrait.
26:12And then we gained lots of knowledge of Sardar Vallabai Patel while drawing that.
26:19And then while drawing it under the guidance of our art teacher only we were able to do all these
26:26things.
26:26And then, yeah.
26:30So what are the take away of the three days exhibition?
26:36Guests are coming and then they will be like, we have got lots of inspiration from seeing these paintings and
26:44all.
26:47Sir.
26:49Namaste.
26:50I am Sahasra from Shri Pekai Shidyaniketan to honor Sardar Vallabai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary.
26:56I did a portrait of him using charcoal pencils and charcoal powder.
27:02To honor his legacy, I used charcoal pencils.
27:07I used blenders to do the shading and an electric eraser to give the highlights of the portrait.
27:14And used charcoal powder for the background.
27:17Yeah.
27:18Yeah.
27:21So, how you go?
27:26We had a wonderful process while drawing these paintings.
27:30We did through some newspapers, articles and a lot of old internet archives and got to know a lot about
27:36Sardar Vallabai Patel.
27:37And we very much honor him to his legacy and his dedication to unite the nation together.
27:42And we really respect his hard work.
27:45And we got to know a lot about this person and his dedication to unite the nation in this process.
27:52Thank you so much.
27:52We have a great pleasure.
28:00We have a great pleasure.
28:16Thank you very much.
28:17Charcoal pencil used to be used and the paintings are very good.
28:21The entire paintings have told them about their lives.
28:25Through which we have many things that the students are explaining through
28:30which we have many things that we don't know about them,
28:35and we have found them.
28:37Just recently, we saw that the people who were the ones who were the ones who were the grandchildren,
28:43children's name is not mentioned anywhere, as we know that if everyone has done good work
28:49then they can use their name so much so that they can use their name as well, but they
28:56believed that what I have built up is that they need to build up with each one of them.
29:01With this motto, they have not mentioned their name anywhere, and the overall exhibition
29:08is very good.
29:08The children have worked hard and made good paintings, and through the WISEG, they have
29:14to come to the exhibition, so Gujarat is grateful that they have chosen this place, because
29:18Sardar Vallabhai Patel's birthplace is Gujarat.
29:21So, it is great, and I recommend that everyone come to visit this exhibition.
29:27The exhibition is for three days, yesterday it was inaugurated by Dr. Kartike Sarabhai,
29:34and if the exhibition is going to be next, it is good.
