The North Star (1943) is an American war drama directed by Lewis Milestone, written by Lillian Hellman, and produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Set in June 1941, the film follows a peaceful Ukrainian village whose residents are suddenly thrust into the horrors of the Nazi invasion. As German forces occupy the region, villagers form partisan groups, resist brutality, and fight to protect their families and homeland. Featuring a strong ensemble cast — including Anne Baxter, Dana Andrews, Walter Huston, Walter Brennan, Ann Harding, Jane Withers, Farley Granger, and Erich von Stroheim — the film blends emotional storytelling with wartime urgency.
The film was later re‑edited and re‑released in the 1950s under the title Armored Attack.
