00:00This is the incident that Barcelona coach Hansi Flick called a clear red.
00:04Fans are split and it's all down to the referee's interpretation of the handball rule.
00:09If you missed the game, here's what happened.
00:11Atletico Madrid were positioned to take a goal kick and keeper Juan Musso
00:15kicked the ball to teammate Marc Pubel, restarting the game.
00:19But Pubel misunderstood and stopped the ball with his hand
00:22before quickly taking the goal kick himself.
00:25Seeing this, the Barcelona players immediately ran to the referee,
00:28appealing for the handball, which would have meant a penalty for Barcelona
00:32and a second yellow for the Atleti defender.
00:35But the referee waved away their appeals and VAR did not intervene,
00:39meaning that Atleti were free to play on.
00:41They went on to win the game 2-0,
00:43giving them a huge advantage heading into next week's second leg.
00:47Speaking after the game, Diego Simeone said it was just common sense
00:50to not give the penalty, but there were plenty who thought otherwise.
00:54It basically comes down to two options for the referee,
00:56either rigidly sticking to the lords of the game,
00:59or taking the more flexible, common sense approach.
01:02On Wednesday, the referee went with the latter,
01:05and Atleti got a major let-off in a massive game.
01:08On Sunday...
01:08.
