„The Assessment“ takes climate collapse and answers it with a parallel world that runs like a spreadsheet. Here, even wanting a child isn’t a matter of “when it happens.” It’s scheduled, regulated, approved. So a young power couple gets put under the microscope for seven days, and one evaluator is basically there to decide whether their life meets the checklist.

Sounds clinical. It plays like a slow grind of psychological pressure. The scary part isn’t a monster in the dark. It’s how normal everything looks while your choices get narrowed, your instincts get second-guessed, and every conversation feels like it’s being graded in real time.

This movie doesn’t just ask “what if society controlled reproduction.” It shows what that control does to love, trust, and the human need to mess things up sometimes. Spoiler: the system hates messy.

Klimawandel als Hintergrundrauschen, Parallelwelt als Vorschlaghammer: In „The Assessment“ wird das Leben so lange optimiert, bis es sich eher wie ein Projektplan anfühlt als wie ein Zuhause. Ein erfolgreiches Paar darf offenbar nur dann Eltern werden, wenn es vorher eine Art sieben-Tage-Prüfung besteht. Klingt nach Büro-Routine. Ist aber eher psychologischer Nebelmaschine-Trip: Regeln, Beobachtung, kleine Eingriffe, die sich am Ende wie eine komplette Umprogrammierung anfühlen.

Am Ende zählt nicht, ob die Beziehung funktioniert. Sondern ob sie den Test überlebt. Und ja, die Idee ist so unnötig effizient, dass man kurz lachen muss. Dann fragt man sich, warum man eigentlich noch Fragen stellt, wenn das System schon Antworten vorgibt.
