Two New York crime bosses who start off acting like best friends. Then the jealousy shows up. And like it always does in these stories, “petty” turns into “deadly” faster than anyone can say not again. The Alto Knights centers on Frank Costello and Vito Genovese as they fight for control of the city’s streets, and for the kind of loyalty you only get when betrayal is already in the room. The movie is basically a slow-motion argument between two power brokers who cannot share anything, not even trust. Expect grit, backroom pressure, and the specific thrill of watching the inevitable collision happen while everyone pretends it’s optional. Plot-driven, a bit ruthless, and definitely not for people who like their gangsters polite.

Und weil offenbar niemand in der Gruppe jemals einen Kalender benutzt, eskaliert das Ganze von „kleinem Vertrauensbruch“ zu „tödlicher Kurs Richtung Betonwand“. The Alto Knights erzählt den erbitterten Machtkampf zwischen Frank Costello und Vito Genovese, die beide nicht nur die Straßen kontrollieren wollen, sondern auch die Geschichte. Das ist weniger Oscar-Drama und mehr kaltes Kopf-an-Kopf-Ringen. Der Humor bleibt trocken, die Spannung hängt am Abgrund. Wenn das nach „Mafia, aber mit schlechter Entscheidungskette“ klingt, dann triffst du den Ton ziemlich gut.
