Eric checks into rehab. Shelly shows up because trouble also needs a waiting room. They click fast, escape together, and you can practically hear the movie whispering: “Don’t worry, this won’t end badly.” Of course it does. Shelly’s past catches up in the nastiest way possible, and Vincent Roeg, a scheming corporate boss with leverage and plenty of muscle, sends the people who clean up messes. Eric and Shelly get wiped out. Then the story flips: Eric is offered a way to save Shelly, but it costs him. He has to move between the living and the dead, return to Earth, and do revenge the only way it works here. Bill Skarsgård stepping into this myth is an easy sell. The question is, can the film make it feel fresh instead of just loud?

Eric landet in einer Entzugsklinik, Shelly auch. Zufall? Eher Schicksal mit schlechtem Timing: Die beiden fühlen sich sofort zueinander hingezogen und beschließen, der Einrichtung einfach zu entkommen. Das klingt nach Romantik. Wird aber schnell zum Albtraum, weil Sshellys Vergangenheit nicht locker lässt. Irgendwer aus dem Umfeld von Vincent Roeg, einem Konzernchef mit zu viel Einfluss und zu wenig Skrupeln, zieht das Pärchen gnadenlos ins Verderben. Shelly kippt Richtung Hölle, und Eric bekommt genau die Art von „Chance“, die man nicht annehmen sollte. Als unsterbliches Wesen zwischen Leben und Tod muss er zurück zur Erde, um diejenigen abzuservieren, die ihm und seiner großen Liebe den Tod auf den Gewissen haben.
