Forget postcard jungle vibes. “Patrol” turns the rainforest in Nicaragua into the crime scene it already is. Illegal cattle ranching is chewing through huge chunks of the landscape, and the film doesn’t pretend that’s accidental. Rama and Kriol rangers team up with undercover journalist Christopher Jordan to search the “Indio Maíz” nature reserve for illegal settlers. Sounds like a mission. The trouble is the settlers don’t even bother with the whole “we care about the environment” performance. They’re very clear that stopping the deforestation isn’t on the agenda. Because the demand for Nicaraguan beef keeps pulling the trigger. Especially from the USA. It’s investigative pressure with boots on wet ground.

Nur gibt es ein kleines Problem: Die Leute, die dort schon aus dem Wald eine Baustelle machen, tun nicht mal so, als ginge es um Naturschutz. Abholzung stoppen? Fehlanzeige. Die Nachfrage nach nicaraguanischem Rindfleisch zieht weiter, vor allem in den USA. Das ist Recherchelärm mit Action und dem bitteren Gefühl, dass das System keine Moral braucht.
