“Mickey 17” turns space exploration into the most depressing workplace comedy imaginable. Mickey Barnes signs up for a human expedition to colonize space and gets labeled as “expendable.” Which is Hollywood-speak for: they want you to do the exploring part… by dying. Over and over. For your paycheck.
He’s sent to an ice planet that should be the dream destination for science, except the job is basically an endless return ticket to failure. Mickey keeps getting sent back into the unknown, and the movie keeps asking the uncomfortable question: if you’re replaced and reset, what exactly are you clinging to.
It’s a weird, dark sci-fi idea with a surprisingly efficient punchline. IMDB might not call it perfect, but the Rotten Tomatoes score suggests there’s fun to be found in the madness.

„Mickey 17“ macht aus dem Space-Jobkollegen ein Verschleißteil. Mickey Barnes wird für eine Expedition ausgewählt, die offiziell „so ein bisschen Erkundung“ heißt und praktisch „bitte sterben Sie für uns“ bedeutet. Sein Arbeitgeber will totale Hingabe. Nicht als Motto, sondern als Vertragsklausel: Mickey verdient sich seinen Lebensunterhalt, indem er stirbt und wieder auftaucht, als wäre das die neue Gesundheits-App.
Auf dem Eisplaneten wird aus Routine schnell ein Problem mit gleich mehreren Mickeys, Erinnerungen und der Frage, wer eigentlich noch „du“ ist, wenn du schon öfter weg warst, als dir lieb ist. Das Ganze ist schräg, ziemlich dunkle Sci-Fi-Unterhaltung und ziemlich direkt darin, wie Menschen ihre Moral im Handgepäck vergessen.
