“Demon City” doesn’t waste time pretending it’s a thoughtful thriller. An ex-hired killer gets blamed for his family’s murder, gets dumped like a bad decision, then finds out the city is being run by masked “demons.” So yeah, the plan is revenge. No therapy montage. No redemption arc. Just vengeance with questionable impulse control.
The story is basically: one guy versus a takeover, with the added complication that he’s also the prime suspect. That’s the kind of setup that usually means either chaos or very satisfying payback. Here it’s mostly the second one. It’s Japanese revenge business from 2025, blunt and a bit mean, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 50% as the unofficial warning label.
If you want righteous justice dressed as survival instinct, you’ll probably have fun. ---------- Ein Mann, der mal für Geld dreckige Arbeit gemacht hat, wacht nicht auf und denkt: „Jetzt bin ich ein besserer Mensch.“ Er denkt eher: „Cool, ich bin ein Mordfall. Wie praktisch.“ Angeblich wird ihm der Mord an seiner Familie angehängt, dann lässt man ihn liegen und zwar nicht im übertragenen Sinn. Und während die Stadt von maskierten „Dämonen“ übernommen wird, zieht er los, um seine Rache auszupacken. Mit der Sorte Logik, die nur funktioniert, wenn man keine Fragen stellt und keine Rücksicht nimmt.
„Demon City“ ist 2025 japanisches Revenge-Futter, roh, direkt und ohne viel Gelaber. Rotten Tomatoes gibt 50%. Ich sag eher: Wenn du Lust auf grindige Vergeltung ohne Moral-Exkurs hast, könnte das dein Ding sein.
