Director (Regie): Bernard MacMahon
Actors (Schauspieler): Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones
Writers (Drehbuch): Bernard MacMahon, Allison McGourty
Title (Originaltitel): Becoming Led Zeppelin
Country (Land): United Kingdom, United States of America
Original language (Original-Sprache): English

This is music history with the volume turned up, and the hype turned down. Becoming Led Zeppelin follows how Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham collide with the 1960s music scene, not in a neat timeline fairy-tale, but like real people chasing the next right thing. The story zeroes in on their meeting in the summer of 1968, then watches the rocket launch. By 1970, it’s less “band origin” and more “how did this become inevitable?”

You don’t get a clone of every other doc with talking heads repeating the same talking points. Instead, the film leans on previously unreleased footage, with the band giving it a kind of official blessing. So yes, it’s about the making of a legend. No, it’s not pretending legends appear fully formed. They get built.
----------

00:03I got my first drunk kid when I was 10.
00:05I was listening to rock and roll coming from America.
00:09That's a sound I would really like to make.
00:12John's wife used to say,
00:13don't you dare play with that planty.
00:16He's a complete disaster.
00:22I'm going to form my own band.
00:23I know what it is that I want to do with it.
00:25Oh, Jimmy's forming a band.
00:27You should give him a call.
00:28So I did.
00:30The first time we played together,
00:32you could say it was going to be a good group.
00:34It was an electric atmosphere.
00:37And that would have been what I'd been waiting for.
00:41Jimmy produced the album.
00:42I wanted it to be something that they hadn't heard before.
00:45The press didn't seem to like us.
00:47It got ripped to pieces.
00:48People wouldn't even book the band.
00:51The manager of Peter Grant gets a tour together in America.
00:55We're backstage at the film wall.
00:56And Peter says, if you don't crack it here,
00:59it's over.
01:00So we were going to go in there like with a hatchet.
01:08Everyone knew that was a life-changing experience.
01:13We toured for months on end.
01:15It was a whirlwind.
01:16People are bashing down the doors to get him.
01:19It's just absolutely ridiculous.
01:24I was just out there throwing it up in the air.
01:29We just recorded what we liked.
01:31It really dovetailed together.
01:45We were going to be called Led Zeppelin.
01:47And I thought, that's a terrible name.
01:48But I couldn't come up with a better one.
01:50So Led Zeppelin, we were.
02:03That's a terrible name.
02:04You
