„Baby John“ is the kind of action thriller where you can almost hear the writers saying, „Okay, but what if he could transform?“ A committed deputy police chief suddenly develops the ability to change his form, and that power instantly turns his life into a logistics problem. He’s forced to move through different places, dealing with danger that won’t wait, all while trying to protect his family from something looming.

It’s basically duty and family crashing into each other at full speed. The movie keeps asking the uncomfortable question: what do you do when your job says one thing, but your loved ones need you right now? The tone wobbles, the plot gets messy in places, and the whole thing feels a bit overcaffeinated. Still, if you like transformations, pressure-cooker choices, and plot momentum that doesn’t apologize, this one is worth a watch.

„Baby John“ ist der Film, bei dem man sich fragt, ob die Drehbuchidee im Team-Chat aus Versehen an eine Superhelden-App weitergeleitet wurde. Ein engagierter stellvertretender Polizeichef bekommt nämlich plötzlich die Fähigkeit, sich zu verwandeln. Klingt erst mal nach cool. Wird aber schnell chaotisch, weil er damit durch unterschiedliche Orte sortiert wird, während eine echte Bedrohung auf seiner Familie sitzt. Und jetzt wird aus Action eine Zwickmühle: Dienstpflicht vs. Privatleben, starke Entscheidungen vs. Bauchgefühl.

Dass das Ganze nicht superglatt aufgeht, merkt man. Aber genau das macht’s unterhaltsam. Für Fans von „Was soll das jetzt?“-Thrillern mit viel Tempo und emotionaler Schraubstock-Atmosphäre ist das eine brauchbare Wette.
