00:00I'm just an intern, I still make no mistake or two
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo!
00:07And today, we're counting down our picks for the top 10 parodies of musicians that were so on the money,
00:13that the artist being parodied was left impressed.
00:16We shot about a million more of my dessert but I don't know what for!
00:22Number 10. Tacky, Weird Al Yankovic
00:26It might seem crazy wearing stripes to fly
00:31Back in 2013, Pharrell Williams' bubbly, super hit Happy was pretty much impossible to get away from.
00:38Its infectiously optimistic lyrics and catchy groove were an instant hit,
00:43with it eventually peaking at number one in several different countries.
00:47Because I'm happy
00:48Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
00:53Naturally, it didn't take long until a stream of parodies hit the internet and sure enough,
00:58the king of the spoof, Weird Al Yankovic, was quick to get involved.
01:02Yankovic always pays the artist the courtesy of asking permission to parody their songs first.
01:07Despite not needing any legal clearance to do so, not only was Pharrell happy to let him do his thing,
01:13he spoke very highly of the end product, tacky, and declared he was honored to get the Weird Al treatment.
01:25Number 9. Cups and Cakes, Spinal Tap
01:29Cups and Cakes, Cups and Cakes, oh what good things mother makes
01:36The original track Cups and Cakes by Spinal Tap appeared on the soundtrack album to the 1984 film, This is
01:43Spinal Tap.
01:45Stonehenge, where a man's a man and the children dance to the pipes of land
01:51It was very clearly a parody of British experimental folk of the 1960s, specifically works by Paul McCartney during the
01:59mid-to-late Beatles years.
02:01Decades later, Maka himself gave the track the ultimate seal of approval by doing a feature on the re-recorded
02:09version for the band's film sequel.
02:11McCartney has been around the block enough times now to not take himself too seriously, and this appearance alongside Spinal
02:18Tap in 2025 proved it.
02:20Bread and jam, yes please sir, and thank you ma'am.
02:26Number 8. Baby on Board, The Simpsons
02:30Okay, so hear us out on this one.
02:33It all happened during that magical summer of 1985.
02:36A maturing Joe Piscopo left Saturday Night Live to conquer Hollywood.
02:41People Express introduced a generation of hicks to plane travel.
02:44And I was in a barbershop quartet.
02:47The iconic Simpsons episode Homer's Barbershop Quartet prominently features the song Baby on Board, which is not directly a Beatles
02:55spoof.
02:56However, the episode itself is very clearly an overall homage to the rise and career of the Fab Four, culminating
03:03in one final performance on top of Moe's Tavern.
03:06Baby on Board, How I'm Adored
03:12Sounds eerily similar to the Beatles' own final show, which took place on the rooftop of Apple Corps headquarters.
03:19Guitarist George Harrison even made a guest appearance in the episode to remind the world that this stunt had, in
03:26fact, been pulled off before.
03:36Number 7. Photograph, Nickelback
03:39After years and years of being one of the most memed-on bands of all time, it's pretty cool to
03:44see that Nickelback are not unwilling to laugh at themselves.
03:47Falling down the photo rabbit hole
03:50Is it my hair or just a ramen bowl
03:56When Chad Krueger and company were approached by Google to perform a modified version of their song Photograph, they seemingly
04:03accepted without hesitation.
04:04The song's lyrics were altered by Google to advertise new features on Google Photos, while keeping the tone of the
04:10widely ridiculed and overly sentimental song.
04:13Every memory of looking out the back door
04:16I have a photo album spread out on my bed through the
04:20Writing a parody and performing it yourself or giving it to a third party is good and all, but if
04:25you can actually get the original artist to poke fun at themselves, that's a different level.
04:29The song's meme status will likely outlive us all.
04:32It's hard to braid it
04:34Time to shave it
04:36Goodbye
04:38Highlight
04:39Every
04:39Number 6.
04:40Push
04:41Feeling good on a Wednesday
04:43South Park
04:44For many die-hard South Park fans, nothing tops the Randy-centric episodes, even by Trey Parker and Matt Stone's
04:51lofty standards.
04:52Having Randy reveal that he is secretly alternative pop star lord is a wild premise for an episode.
04:58The chick that wrote the theme song to the new Hunger Games movie is you?
05:02Yeah, the record company messed it all up. It was supposed to go, Hunger Games, yah yah yah yah yah,
05:08hunger games. But they just do what they want with my songs.
05:12Wait, Lorde sounds like a girl.
05:14Auto-tune. You wanna see how I do it?
05:16In this specific story, he reveals that with the help of a little auto-tune, he is able to record
05:22and release music without anyone suspecting his true identity.
05:26I am Lorde, yah yah yah yah yah, I am Lorde.
05:32When the real Lorde heard about it, she revealed that she got a good laugh out of the whole thing,
05:36understanding that being mocked by South Park is a pretty clear sign that you've made it.
05:475. Head Over Heels Weather Version
05:50Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Bacon
05:53There has been no shortage of song parodies over the years that have featured Jimmy Fallon and random celebrities.
05:59Is it their horses? That's the one thing.
06:05We'll always have a soft spot for the talk show host's meteorological take on the Tears for Fears classic Head
06:11Over Heels alongside Kevin Bacon.
06:13There's a ring of pixie and do so if you're going out, you might need an umbrella.
06:21Like Fallon, the veteran actor Bacon is no slouch in the musical department.
06:25In this case, their Tears for Fears cover was an instant success.
06:29And, as it turned out, the band themselves enjoyed it a lot, too.
06:34The Roland Orzabal and Kurt Smith fronted group took to social media to give the spoof their own personal seal
06:40of approval.
06:41It likely introduced the song to a whole new generation, too, which is pretty cool when you think about it.
06:46Something happens and I'm head over heels.
06:50Number 4. Like a Surgeon
06:53Weird Al Yankovic
06:55Hey, like a surgeon
06:59Getting for the very first time
07:02There is only one known time where Weird Al Yankovic has openly accepted a song idea directly from another artist.
07:10Madonna was apparently walking around with a friend when she openly wondered whether Yankovic could ever parody her song.
07:16She even brought the title Like a Surgeon to Weird Al's management through a mutual contact.
07:21Yankovic was happy to do the rest, conceptualizing a song that would go on to be one of his most
07:27beloved creations.
07:28This patient's fading fast
07:34Complications have set in
07:36Don't know how long he'll last
07:39Madonna pretty much breathed life into this one single-handedly, and she was supposedly quite happy with the results.
07:47I can hear your heart beat
07:50For the very last time
07:53Number 3. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song, Jimmy Fallon
07:58Neil Young might not generally give off an overly comedic vibe, but when the time came for him to step
08:04up and poke fun at himself and his idiosyncratic style, he exceeded expectations.
08:10If anything I could say this kid was rare
08:13Jimmy Fallon scored a pretty big viral hit by performing the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
08:19in the style of the Canadian troubadour.
08:21This is a story all about how
08:26My life got flipped turned upside down
08:30Though no public response from Young was offered in return, he later made two separate appearances on Jimmy Fallon's talk
08:37show to duet with the host.
08:39Yes, you heard us. The highly acclaimed and artistically revered Neil Young was so happy to do harmonies with someone
08:46doing an impression of him that he did it twice.
08:48I am you
08:49You are me
08:51Love is love
08:54Number 2. Cheese and Onions
08:57The Ruttles
08:58I have always thought that the whale was unkind, cheese and onions
09:07When it comes to movie spoofs, the Ruttles were never trying to be overly subtle about their attempts to lampoon
09:14the Beatles. Their film All You Need Is Cash has since gone on to become a cult classic, spawning a
09:20soundtrack album and even a sequel.
09:22Ouch! Don't deserve me
09:25Ouch! Please don't hurt me
09:27Ouch!
09:28John Lennon was very enthused by the whole thing, while Ringo and Paul took a little longer to come around.
09:34However, George Harrison, who was friends with creator Eric Idle, actually beat them all to the punch, appearing in a
09:40cameo role in the film.
09:42That's just about as clear a seal of approval as you'll ever find.
09:46Advice
09:48Advice
09:49For anything nice
09:51And everything nice
09:52Number 1. Smells Like Nirvana
09:55Weird Al Yankovic
09:57What is this song all about? Can't figure any lyrics out
10:05Kurt Cobain was approached by Weird Al Yankovic about the prospect of him doing a parody of Nirvana's Earth Shattering
10:12hit, Smells Like Teen Spirit.
10:22When he heard that Yankovic would be making a joke about how hard it is to decipher the lyrics, he
10:28was sold.
10:28Now I'm mongling, and I'm screaming, and I don't know what I'm singing
10:36After it came out and proved to be a huge success, Cobain would double down on his approval, citing the
10:42song as proof that the band had made it.
10:44It went on to become his biggest hit in years, sparking a comeback that carried him through the rest of
10:49the 1990s.
10:50What's the message I'm conveying? Can you tell me what I'm saying?
10:58But what do you think is the single greatest parody song of all time? Let us know in the comments
11:04below.

11:08I'll see you then.
