00:00President Trump's key ally, former White House strategist Steve Bannon, spent several months
00:04in jail back in 2024 after being convicted of defying congressional subpoena demands two years
00:08prior. But the Department of Justice may soon toss his case as a symbolic gesture now that the
00:14Supreme Court has potentially cleared the way for them to do it. The nation's highest court agreed
00:19on Monday to vacate an appeals court ruling that upheld Bannon's conviction, kicking the case back
00:24down to a district judge in Washington, D.C. This move frees the judge to rule on the Trump
00:29administration's pending request to dismiss the case, quote, in the interests of justice.
00:33Bannon was originally convicted for failing to adhere to subpoenas demanding testimony and
00:38documents related to the House Select January 6 Committee's investigation. That committee is now
00:43defunct. Bannon's legal team says he wasn't ignoring the subpoena, but was following his
00:48attorney's advice against complying with it until a court ruled on Trump's claims of executive privilege.
