Loitz looks like one of those former-GDR towns that “should” have been fixed long ago. „Unendlicher Raum“ spends a year watching it from the inside, behind the gray, crumbling facade of a seemingly dying small town. You get old residents and newcomers, all navigating the same awkward reality: empty spaces, fading routines, and the stubborn need to still matter. The movie is not trying to sell you a tidy emotional moral. It asks the harder, slightly uncomfortable question instead. If the place you live in is shrinking, what exactly makes your life worth wanting? It’s small-scale, observant, and quietly sharp. Like watching a room fill with doubts, one conversation at a time.
----------

00:03You were the first time in Lötz, right?
00:05Yes.
00:06What's your impression?
00:09That...
00:15It was really a small town that lived from the land.
00:20Here was a beer shop, a German house was around the corner,
00:24here at the front were the bikes.
00:26Because I think about the old businesses,
00:29which were the first time,
00:30but today I would recommend it.
00:32It was crazy,
00:33I lost my job,
00:35and now the thing is still there and rotted.
00:41Here have to come more people.
00:47We just need to look a bit,
00:49what we build up and make it nice.
00:53Hey, I'm Annika.
00:55I'm from Berlin.
00:56Hello, I'm Orlando.
00:58I'm from Venezuela.
01:01I'm from Lötz,
01:02very nice to meet you.
01:03In the Eröffnung of the Stärkenfabrik,
01:05you're making a whole lot of money.
01:07It's totally cool,
01:08when the old people think,
01:09wow, that's new,
01:10and you have the old connection.
01:12So much merkt man.
01:13Man has to have a vision.
01:15And then it's now,
01:16to sit with the city together.
01:18How should the city grow up?
01:19Where should the city grow up?
01:21And that's we have to do it together.
01:23With the citizens.
01:24So,
01:25that's we have to do it now.
01:28This is now a whole text.
01:31This is a full piece of art.
01:37Is it here not better just to give it a bit of time
01:42and to open it up?
01:46That's everything's good.
01:47That's what it is.
01:48Maybe we should be bolder and just give more people the chance.
