Ben Mears returns to his old hometown, Jerusalem’s Lot, which locals still call Salem’s Lot. He’s a writer. So naturally he thinks: great. Inspiration. Back to the Marsten house, the one with the scary reputation from his childhood.
Then he finds out the place has been sold and is being turned into an antiques shop. Nothing says “we’ve handled the creepy stuff” like remodeling it into a retail space.
Of course the town doesn’t stay chill. A dog is found dead with bite marks on its neck. Mike Ryerson, the grave digger, doesn’t need a lecture. Dr. Cody starts noticing the same weird symptom over and over again: blood issues. Ben leans on Susan Norton, an old friend, and lands on the only explanation that makes any sense. Vampires. In Salem’s Lot. Shocking.

Lewis Pullman kommt zurück nach Salem’s Lot, so eine „nur kurz Stoff sammeln“-Nummer für sein neues Buch. Als Kind hatte Ben Mears im Marsten-Haus Albträume, jetzt steht es nicht mehr als Spuklegende da, sondern soll plötzlich zum Antiquitätengeschäft werden. Klingt nach echter Horror-Logik: Erst verkaufen, dann überrascht sein, dass es nicht weg ist.
Und dann eskaliert alles, leider ohne Überraschungsmusik. Ein Hund liegt tot herum, der Totengräber Mike Ryerson sieht an seinem Hals Bissspuren. Dr. Cody muss bei den Fällen auch noch ständig Blutarmut diagnostizieren. Ben holt sich Hilfe bei Susan Norton, seiner alten Freundin, und ja. Er hat natürlich schon die richtige Idee, bevor die Stadt überhaupt bereit ist, sie auszusprechen.
Mit 47% Metascore darf man sich darauf freuen, dass der Vampir-Sumpf ziemlich dreckig wird.
