THE CRITIC is a thriller built from dirty deals: intrigue, blackmail, and the kind of escalation that goes from bad choices to “wait, that actually happened.” Murder shows up when you least expect it, which is exactly the point. Jimmy makes the mess, then tries to manage the fallout like it’s opening night.

Ian McKellen is the real hook here, perfectly cast as a charming anti-hero who keeps smiling while the trap closes. It’s not trying to be a history lesson. It’s a properly nasty, witty time-sink.

Ian McKellen macht daraus einen Antihelden, der nicht geläutert werden will. Die Stimmung ist dunkel-gewürzt, die Figuren sind zu clever für ihr eigenes Wohl, und ja, das Ganze kippt Richtung „zu viel Theater für eine Wahrheit“. Trotzdem macht THE CRITIC Spaß, weil er konsequent auf Spannung setzt, nicht auf Moral.
