Es gibt Filme, die spielen mit Zeit. Und dann gibt es „Pedro Páramo“, der so tut, als hätte man eine staubige Straße in den Kopf gepflastert. Ein Mann sucht seinen Vater. Klingt erstmal normal. Die Stadt macht aber nicht mit: Gewalt liegt hier nicht im Untertitel, sondern in der Luft. Dazu kommt diese unerwiderte Liebe, die offenbar genug Zündstoff hat, um Erinnerungen und Träume wie Rauch zu mischen. Du springst durch Bewusstsein, durch das, was man fühlt, was man will, was man verdrängt. Irgendwo da drängt Pedro Páramo als über allem thronende, geliebte, verfluchte Figur durch.
