Love Affair (1939) is an American romantic drama directed by Leo McCarey, starring Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer. The story follows French painter Michel Marnet and American singer Terry McKay, who meet aboard a transatlantic liner and fall in love despite both being engaged to others. They agree to reunite atop the Empire State Building in six months — a plan derailed when Terry is struck by a car and hides her injury from Michel. The film became a major hit and earned multiple Academy Award nominations.
