00:13ahead of a Tuesday ultimatum set by President Donald Trump.
00:19In a parliamentary session, Takechi indicated she was also seeking a call with Trump,
00:24although nothing has been finalized.
00:26Japan has been bearing the brunt of conflict in the Middle East,
00:30having relied on the region for over 90% of its crude oil imports.
00:34Most are transited through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains effectively closed under Iran.
00:40Takechi said on Sunday that the country had eight months of oil reserves left
00:44and was working to secure other supplies.
00:47Two Japanese ships have successfully passed the vital waterway in recent days,
00:52for the first time since the conflict began in late February.
00:55At least 43 Japan-linked vessels remain stuck in the Strait.
