00:00Our last day of shooting was in Istanbul.
00:01And we did.
00:02And we had, we, we, we, we let our hair down.
00:04We went to an after-after party.
00:05Yeah, yeah, it was good, really good fun, actually.
00:07Yeah.
00:07And it was really, really nice sport.
00:09Because, because, you know, we were obviously very, very intense.
00:11And really nice to, to see the guys relaxing, you know.
00:14We did.
00:14We actually had quite a great night out in Istanbul.
00:16It's great to see you both again.
00:18I know, obviously, that you guys have worked together on Outlaw Kitting.
00:22I think I spoke to you maybe then.
00:23Does it make it easier working with David after you have done that?
00:27Or does he bring new challenges?
00:29He doesn't stop giving me challenges.
00:32But that's just how I like it, you know.
00:33I think that's the beauty of it.
00:35Like, yes, absolutely.
00:36Having a, sort of, you know, to be able to collaborate again.
00:39It was amazing.
00:40I mean, you know, I was so fortunate and flattered and honoured when he came to me with this script.
00:47Also, it was just after the writer's strike, you know.
00:49And there was no, it was kind of a moment of like, where, where's any sort of, it's quite a
00:54scary moment of like, where's some originality and something that felt frail.
00:58Fashion new.
00:59And this was a project you and Ben have been working on for like 10, 15 years.
01:02Yeah, a long, quite a long time.
01:03But, but, but, but sort of almost in the background, you know.
01:06Yeah.
01:07No, it's always like that, isn't it?
01:08And then the kind of the timing aligned and, and it started to make sense.
01:14And it was sort of like the idea of shooting in London and kind of taking this heist movie.
01:19And it was very sort of inspired by a lot of like 70s French heist movies.
01:24I think of like Alain Delon and things like that.
01:26But then, you know, and I think it was like, it was just exciting.
01:30I mean, yeah, I know the language in which David speaks.
01:34I know also his process.
01:35And I really enjoyed it.
01:37When we made Outlaw, it was very, it was, it was like, it was wild and relentless and intense.
01:43And, but there was this freedom.
01:44Like he created, especially those battle sequences.
01:48He, you know, he created this environment and this world.
01:50And then we were just in our characters and we lived it and we were in it.
01:54And then cameras were just kind of like hidden in, in, in, in, in the battle sequences and stuff.
02:00And so you just had to be in it.
02:01And it was just, it was very beautiful.
02:03And the same thing on this, like he doesn't, he expects that kind of, you come to work with prep
02:09and, and, and know your character so that you're, you have this freedom to like let go and just, and
02:15just explore and be in it.
02:16But I know that Dave, like you've said before, I think that David just lets you play, but David, do
02:21you ever tell them to like reign it in?
02:22Like you give them all this freedom to like do what they need, do you ever like?
02:26I mean, some, some, it's interesting actually because there were, there were, there were times on, on this film where
02:33Aaron was, you know, incredibly focused on the military side of things and, and very, and very in touch with
02:40that.
02:40And there were times where, where I was going that, you know, we, you know, we, you know, that we
02:46need to, we need to kind of like balance it up with the human side.
02:49And it was like, it was really, you know, but so, you know, most of the time not, but, but
02:53sometimes, you know, on the odd, odd moment, like, you know, and it's, it's always a gentle kind of, you
02:58know, it's a steering.
02:59It's not, it's not a kind of like, you know, shut up and don't do it that way.
03:02You know, there's nothing, there's nothing, there's none of, there's none of that stuff.
03:05But, but as a director, that's part of your job is, is, is, is to sort of, is to, is
03:10just to kind of, you know, is your, your, you know, is to make it all very organic and, and,
03:15and absolutely.
03:15And he's, and, and, and, you know, and we have that kind of language.
03:18So it's like, and I know it's like my job is to give variations.
03:22So it's like, once you've done that, you go, okay, we've done that.
03:24We'll give you this.
03:25And then it was, especially with this character trying to find this sort of, uh, without giving anything away, like
03:32his involvement in this kind of, in the plot, but then also where his head's at and what's kind of
03:37going on in his sort of life and backstory to kind of, uh, uh, but it's so, yeah, it was
03:43to give a bit of human quality, a bit of emotion, things like that.
03:46And, um, but yeah, no, you can give direction, you know, like there's, there's this world.
03:51No, but it's this beautiful thing of allowing your actors to kind of be intuitive and instinctive and spontaneous.
03:58So we had these great consultants like Nicole, who's an EOD specialist.
04:02And, uh, you know, we're getting in there and like writing, rewriting some of the dialogue, the right stuff.
04:08So when I start speaking to them at first few weeks, I didn't even know they were like, I didn't
04:13even know you were like, they didn't even cock it off.
04:16It was, I mean, I was kind of, it was quite great.
04:19It was like, it just asserted my, like, uh, you know, that sort of position and that sort of thing.
04:23And then it was kind of, you know, you want to, you want to capture things that feel natural as
04:27much as possible.
04:28It looked great. It looked great. It really did.
04:30I'm curious, obviously, um, your character has this tradition of the shots at the end of like, where he's like,
04:37when you complete a job, do you guys have any traditions when you complete a job that you, that you
04:40do?
04:41At one point I did have a tradition, but it somehow, well, I think, I think, uh, Outlaw King was
04:46the last time I did it because it was, it was, it, it, you know, and it did involve alcohol.
04:52I, I, I, and you're allowed to do it in Britain and you're not allowed to do anything in America,
04:56you know, so I, I used to make my own kombucha and my own, uh, you know, um, hooch of
05:03some kind, you know, and, and, and, and sort of force everyone on the crew to, to have a, have
05:07a nip of it.
05:08We did, I don't, I don't think you were necessary there that day, uh, that we started on, on Outlaw
05:12King, but we did do it.
05:14Uh, uh, so I, at the other, uh, it was kind of, you know, like something I'd made, I mean,
05:18I, you know, event, I mean, for, in the U.S., from hell, how old are we did do it
05:21with, uh, um, with, with, with, you know, homemade lemonade.
05:25That was, you know, that was about it.
05:27I think, you know, after any movie, you tend to have a, what, you know, a wrap party, which is
05:31basically a celebration with the whole crew and everything like that.
05:33I usually have a bit of a, a night out and a, and a drink and a celebration and be
05:37like, we did it because, and it's, you know, it's, we had that, we, our last day of shooting was
05:40in Istanbul.
05:40And we did.
05:41And we had, we, we, we, we let our hair down.
05:43We went to an after-after party.
05:45Yeah, yeah, it was good, really good fun actually.
05:46Yeah.
05:46And it was really, we found a nice spot.
05:48Because, because, you know, we were obviously very, very intense and really nice to, to see the guys relaxing, you
05:53know.
05:53We did.
05:53We actually had quite a great night out in Istanbul and like found a dive bar in Istanbul.
05:59But it was on like a rooftop sort of spot and dance till whatever.
06:03I'm going, I'm going to a film festival there in like a couple of weeks time.
06:06What, should I come with you?
06:07Should I go with you?
06:07Do you want to go back?
06:08Go back, let's do it.
06:09I'm gate crashing, guys.
06:10I'm gate crashing.
06:13Great job with this.
06:14Lovely to chat to you guys.
06:16Thank you so much.
06:16See you soon.
