“Cinderella’s Curse” is the fairy tale version of ripping up the rulebook and then lighting it on fire. Pretty castle, ugly reality. Cinderella gets bullied every single day by her stepmother and two nasty stepsisters, plus the whole castle ecosystem seems to enjoy watching her suffer. Even the old maid gets pulled into their cruelty and pays the price, because apparently consequences are only for the victims.

Cinderella buries the maid and stumbles on a cursed witch book. Not metaphorically. The cover claims it’s made from human skin. It promises three wishes. What could possibly go wrong, right? After more humiliations, she uses the book to go full revenge mode. Expect a bloody, no-apologies retaliation against the people who thought they owned her.

It’s 2024 from the UK, and the IMDb rating of 3.3 suggests this one is… an acquired taste.

„Cinderella’s Curse“ nimmt das Märchen, wirft es in den Kerker und sagt dann: Bitte schön, hier ist der echte Albtraum. Cinderella lebt im prächtigen Schloss, aber „schön“ meint nur die Kulisse, nicht das Leben darin. Stiefmutter und zwei Stiefschwestern machen aus jedem Tag ein Mob-Programm. Selbst die alte Dienstmagd kann den Schikanen irgendwann nicht mehr standhalten. Cinderella begräbt sie, findet dabei zufällig ein Hexenbuch, das laut Einband aus Menschenhaut gefertigt sein soll. Drei Wünsche. Klingt harmlos. Ist es nicht. Denn nach noch mehr Demütigungen dreht Cinderella den Spieß um und startet mit dem Buch einen blutigen Rachefeldzug, der das Wort „Happily Ever After“ ziemlich gründlich zerlegt.

Und ja: Das Ganze ist 2024 und kommt aus dem UK. Der IMDb-Wert (3.3) wirkt dabei wie ein leiser Spoiler.
