00:00And we're back. So we have two ousters today, this time from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
00:05He has asked Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to leave his post.
00:09George is the Army's most senior general.
00:12A defense official says Hegseth asked General George to retire immediately.
00:17Now, the ouster comes as the U.S., of course, is battling Iran.
00:20Joining me now is Hal Kempfert, a familiar face around here.
00:23And on Live Now, a national security analyst, also a retired U.S. Marine.
00:28Thank you. And thank you for your service.
00:30Let's just get your reaction to this. Is this really a big deal?
00:36Well, Marla, it's a deal. I mean, normally when you become a service chief or chairman of the Joint Chiefs
00:42or the vice chair,
00:44normally those are four-year terms. That is not set in stone.
00:48That can change. And certainly we've seen a lot of changes, you know, with Pete Hegseth as Secretary of War
00:54or Secretary of Defense.
00:55And he's removed about a dozen flag and general officers.
01:00Of course, you may recall he removed C.Q. Brown, Air Force General, who was the chairman of the Joint
01:06Chiefs when he came in.
01:08He also, Lisa Franchetti, who was the CNO, Admiral, head of the Navy, you know, Chief of Naval Operations.
01:16And then, of course, General Cruz, Lieutenant General Cruz, head of DIA, and others have been removed as well.
01:22So they're not afraid of removing flag and general officers.
01:25But this is still a big deal.
