00:00And Yoshinobu Yamamoto who threw
00:02the final pitch of the World
00:04Series starts with strike one
00:05oral a split finger right away
00:08and he establishes the fastball
00:09at the knees that split is
00:11devastating.
00:12He leads them off with that.
00:14Yeah.
00:15And Marte is not your
00:16prototypical leadoff hitter you
00:17saw there swinging at the first
00:18pitch a lot of time leadoff guys
00:20are taking that first pitch a
00:23very aggressive hitter the 32
00:25year old could tell Marte he
00:27swings through that it's oh and
00:29two now Luis we're talking
00:31about before the game how did
00:32the Diamondbacks have to see
00:34Yamamoto here.
00:35Well you saw them swing at that
00:36first pitch down in the dirt they
00:38have to see the ball up and try
00:39to stay to the middle part of the
00:40field and not pull off that
00:41split.
00:44One ball and two strikes Marte
00:46takes their Yama is a lot of
00:49like Clayton Kershaw or even with
00:51an oh two count they don't like
00:52to waste pitches today with the
00:54pitch count try and be as
00:56efficient as possible in attack.
00:57You heard Dave Roberts mention it
01:00to Bob pregame seeing if they
01:02can get him through six as
01:03Marte catches a piece there.
01:07How about that ceremony by the
01:09way that was full Hollywood blue
01:11carpet.
01:11Will Ferrell.
01:13It was crazy to see the men
01:15Freddie Freeman and Miguel
01:17Rojas bring the two back to
01:18back trophies in.
01:20What a celebration for the
01:22Dodgers one and two and that's
01:24guided by Marte down the right
01:26field line and foul.
01:29This Diamondbacks top three in
01:31the order Louise I think for a
01:33national audience still gets
01:35underrated three silver sluggers
01:37at the top of this order boy
01:39they really do.
01:39I mean these guys go out there
01:41they work hard each and every
01:42day and.
01:43You know they're they're
01:44left handed hitters Marte the
01:46switch hitter there but other
01:47than that these guys go out
01:49there and put their work in.
01:54Yamamoto ready for another one
01:56to pitch number six and could
01:58tell Marte.
02:00Ramping up that pitch count.
02:03That's exactly what you want to
02:05lead off hitter to do try to get
02:06deeper and see more pitches
02:07those guys in that dugout.
02:09Get an opportunity to see what's
02:11working for him early in
02:12Yamamoto.
02:18Two balls two strikes.
02:20Sometimes the difference between
02:22the Dodger professional hitters
02:24and the rest of the National
02:25League West specifically is that
02:27there are more swingers and
02:28chasers and the Dodgers take
02:30advantage of that over the last
02:31few years.
02:32This at bat right here was a great
02:33example for Arizona this year.
02:36Diamondbacks last year seventh in
02:38lowest whiff rate in Major League
02:40Baseball.
02:40There's some contact in that
02:41lineup.
02:42They will chase but contact
02:44within it and now already three
02:46balls two strikes a long count
02:48pitch number nine.
02:51Crowd rises with the World Series
02:56MVP Yamamoto and Marte is
02:59proving to be an irritant fast
03:03balls away that he's fouled off
03:05beat him with fastball in
03:06earlier in the count on the
03:07second pitch and got him to
03:08chase the first pitch which was
03:10a split see what he pulls it
03:12trigger on here three and two
03:16again and a swing and a miss
03:19strike three Jason it was the
03:24splitter and it was a good one
03:26because it was a strike for a
03:27long time before it dove out of
03:29the zone or you see that good
03:30movement on it just moving down
03:32in the way to Marte just a tough
03:33pitch to stay on so the split
03:39finger finger for strike three and
03:41here is Corbin Carroll who has
03:43had a wild month and a half I
03:45mean he broke his handmaid bone
03:48swinging not in a game situation
03:50and that's the type of thing that
03:52can cause a four to six week
03:53step aside he's back here on
03:55opening day Louise how do you do
03:56it the day after surgery he was
03:58back out there already starting
03:59to rehab so this guy takes no
04:01days off he wants to be out there
04:02accountable with his teammates to
04:06seem fastball for strike two I
04:07mean Tory Lavelle was talking to
04:09us for the game he said Corbin
04:11Carroll walked by him the day he
04:12did it he said yeah I think I
04:13broke my handmaid bone but I'll
04:15be ready for opening day those
04:17thoughts came together in his
04:19mind as he takes a strike there
04:21and that is it for Carroll he's
04:24going to challenge right he will
04:26the hitter's challenging so our
04:28first ABS challenge it's brought
04:30to you by T-Mobile you get two of
04:32them and if you get them right you
04:34keep them that is a that is a ball
04:36so it's a miss and it's an
04:38overturn for Corbin Carroll well
04:41that's a close one there and or I
04:42know which you're going to use one
04:44early in the ballgame you better
04:45make sure that it's going to be a
04:47ball it was a cutter up and in just
04:49barely up and in it's a good
04:53challenge from Corbin Carroll you
04:55have to do it immediately no
04:56help from the bench has now a
04:58ball and two strikes there's
04:59another fastball from Yamamoto
05:02but again if you're just joining
05:03us the rule is you get two
05:05challenges that you exhaust when
05:07you lose them so if you get it
05:09right you get it back one two
05:19player down the left field side and
05:21Teoscar Hernandez squeezes out
05:24number two so the ABS challenge
05:26system there are uniform strike
05:28zones each team as you see starts
05:30the game with two challenges
05:32pitcher catcher hitter the only
05:34ones who can do it if a position
05:36players pitching you can't challenge
05:38because let's face it they don't
05:40deserve this ranker ball so the
05:42immediacy part of the rule is just
05:43so they don't get help from anyone
05:45that's right that's right and so
05:46here the strike zone formations
05:49you're talking basically if you
05:51broke it down into the quarters of
05:53your body your height it's the
05:54second quarter of your body feet
05:57up what do you guys think of this
05:59as a pitcher and a hitter it's
06:01going to be interesting to say the
06:02way it plays out and how the
06:03hitters read the strike zone after
06:06their stride because their height
06:08does change that changes their
06:09eyes and I think talking with
06:12Luis last night it might be the
06:14high strike that comes into play
06:15that fools them no doubt I think
06:17so and not only that but you you
06:19kind of want your players to use
06:20that challenge when they're second
06:23and third or bases loaded really
06:24I mean if Corbin if that would
06:26have been a strike there would
06:27have been one of the challenges
06:29exhausted early in the ballgame
06:31each team is going to kind of do
06:33the calculus on their own of when
06:34they should when they shouldn't
06:36challenge when it's worth it as
06:38that's a base hit to right from
06:39Perdomo who had such a breakout
06:41year last year for the Diamond
06:43Backs Luis yeah this guy is a
06:45phenomenal player is a great
06:47leader in the clubhouse I mean
06:48you would think on the infield
06:50that it's going to be somebody
06:51like Marte or Nolan or not oh
06:52now leading the infield charge
06:54but it is Perdomo so at the very
06:59least here the Diamondbacks have
07:01ramped up the pitch count for
07:03Yamamoto it's a twenty one pitch
07:05first inning that said as you
07:07say that you know that he pitched
07:10game seven of the World Series on
07:11no rest so certainly he's not a
07:14guy where fatigue becomes a huge
07:16issue for him personally but it's
07:18it's a long season or game seven
07:19two and two thirds on no rest at
07:22all historic innings for him and
07:24for the Dodger organization and of
07:27course Miguel Rojas tied it in the
07:29ninth and Will Smith won it with a
07:31home run Clayton said it's the
07:36greatest thing somebody's done
07:39meaning Yamamoto game six to game
07:40seven why'd you say that Clayton
07:42it's the greatest thing
07:43somebody's done in the game well
07:45just the from the pitching
07:46aspect of it to pitch to throw a
07:48complete game in game six and to
07:50come back and not just get an out
07:51or two outs but to get two and a
07:53third I'll look at that jump
07:54right there but I don't know that
07:55was I'm not sure if I would have
07:57done that at the pitch got that
07:58he had right there I would let him
07:59turn the bats good awareness from
08:01Yamamoto is that Will Smith doing
08:03that for him I think that's the
08:04alma right there Yama just felt
08:06it.
08:07Yep there's a spin and the throw
08:09to retire the side Dodgers
08:11bat next strike three from the
08:15Yamamoto who dotted Santana a very
08:18selective hitter there's a swing
08:23and a miss strike three on the
08:27slider are an auto swings through
08:30the splitter one two splitter
08:35then fastball two and two
08:37Yamamoto to Perdomo two out bases
08:40clear and a swing and a miss a
08:42filthy splitter Clayton's
08:54Tulper.
