00:00:00He won't be coming back to camp. He won't be on the jury. He's gone.
00:00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 75 famous scandals
00:00:10that hit the television industry. I think the biggest part of the backlash we're seeing is
00:00:15people have a hard time seeing little girls looking so grown up.
00:00:20Number 75, The Quiz Show Rigging, 21. Charlie, you're doing the right thing.
00:00:25Really. Everybody's making money. Well, what if you just gave me the questions and I could look up
00:00:31the answers on my own? I mean, don't you think that'd be, well, be less egregious?
00:00:35In the 1950s, quiz shows were a massive television phenomenon. However, the innocence of this
00:00:41broadcasting era was completely shattered by the infamous 21 scandal. It was eventually revealed
00:00:46that the show's producers were secretly feeding answers to the highly popular contestant Charles
00:00:51Van Doren to keep his winning streak alive and boost the ratings. When the shocking truth
00:00:55finally came out, it led to high-profile congressional hearings and changed federal broadcasting laws,
00:01:01making it a federal crime to fix TV and radio contests. Van Doren's reputation was ruined,
00:01:06and the public's absolute trust in reality-based television programming was broken for the first
00:01:11time. It certainly wouldn't be the last.
00:01:14They gave me the answers.
00:01:17They gave you the answers.
00:01:21They gave you the answers.
00:01:23Number 74, The Wardrobe Malfunction, Super Bowl XXXVIII.
00:01:26Houston! Choose to party!
00:01:33It's the highly controversial wardrobe malfunction that changed live TV forever.
00:01:39During the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, Justin Timberlake unexpectedly tore off a piece of
00:01:44Janet Jackson's outfit. This brief moment exposed her breast to roughly 140 million people.
00:01:50The cultural and legal fallout was incredibly swift, and the blame was disproportionately aimed
00:01:56directly at Jackson herself. The incident resulted in massive fines from the FCC and sparked widespread
00:02:02outrage among conservative viewing audiences. More importantly, it forced the television industry
00:02:07to implement standard tape delays for all future live broadcasts, ensuring that networks could
00:02:12quickly censor any unpredictable moments before they actually reached the airwaves.
00:02:21Number 73, Al Capone's Empty Vault, The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults.
00:02:27I'm Geraldo Rivera, and you're about to witness a live television event.
00:02:30A massive concrete vault has been discovered. Some think it belonged to none other than the
00:02:35notorious Al Capone. Well, tonight, for the first time, that vault is going to be open live.
00:02:41Back in 1986, Geraldo Rivera hosted a heavily promoted two-hour special centered around the
00:02:47dramatic opening of a secret vault allegedly belonging to Al Capone. It turned out to be the
00:02:52biggest anti-climax in the history of TV. After agonizing hours of dramatic build-up,
00:02:58rampant speculation, and the literal use of dynamite to breach the walls,
00:03:02the vault was finally opened on live TV. Instead of hidden millions or secret distilleries,
00:03:08it revealed a whole lot of dirt. It remains a legendary TV letdown that temporarily embarrassed
00:03:13Rivera, but ultimately set the standard for sensationalized, cliffhanger-driven reality TV
00:03:19for decades to come.
00:03:20We had no real idea what we'd find inside. As it turns out, we haven't found very much,
00:03:25at least not yet. Number 72, Jeremy Clarkson's unceremonious exit, Top Gear.
00:03:31It's been told that Jeremy Clarkson's contract with the BBC will not be renewed.
00:03:37Jeremy Clarkson was the outspoken face of Top Gear for over a decade. However,
00:03:42his highly lucrative tenure came to a screeching halt in 2015. Clarkson was officially suspended and
00:03:48ultimately let go by the BBC after punching a producer over a lack of hot food. Because his
00:03:54presence was so central to the show's massive success, co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond
00:03:59flatly refused to continue the series without him. This immense loyalty led the famous trio to jump
00:04:04ship together, and they eventually signed a remarkably lucrative deal to create a rival
00:04:09motoring program for Amazon. Anyway, we are all car journalists, and we have spent the last 20 years
00:04:18Being fired? Yes. But we have poured everything we know, everything we care about, into this show.
00:04:26Number 71, Shut Down in Paradise, Bachelor in Paradise.
00:04:30Good morning to you too, Robin. Yes, it all started when a producer complained the show didn't do enough
00:04:35to stop a night of heavy drinking and now infamous intimacy. DeMario describing how things quickly
00:04:40moved from flirting to passion, defending himself after he says he's been made to look guilty.
00:04:46Production on the fourth season of this popular Bachelor spinoff was abruptly suspended following
00:04:51severe allegations of sexual misconduct. The controversy centered around a highly publicized
00:04:56on-camera encounter between contestants Corinne Olympias and DeMario Jackson. The core issue
00:05:01investigated was whether Olympias was too intoxicated to properly consent to the televised
00:05:06intimacy. After an internal investigation, producers concluded that no explicit misconduct
00:05:11had occurred, and filming quickly resumed. However, the troubling scandal sparked widespread debates
00:05:16about the dangerous mix of unlimited alcohol and the importance of clear consent in the high-pressure
00:05:22environments of dating competitions.
00:05:23That night was probably the wildest night of my entire life. Like, we went for it.
00:05:29Number 70, Richard Hatch Doesn't Pay His Taxes, Survivor.
00:05:33The winner of the first Survivor competition is...
00:05:40Rich. Congratulations, Rich.
00:05:42Richard Hatch became a household name when he famously won the inaugural season of Survivor.
00:05:47By ruthlessly manipulating his fellow castaways, he successfully took home the life-changing
00:05:52million-dollar grand prize. But he forgot the one cardinal rule of life, let alone game show
00:05:57winnings. You always have to pay your taxes. Hatch failed to declare his winnings to the IRS,
00:06:03resulting in a highly publicized federal conviction for tax evasion. The taxman sent Hatch to prison
00:06:08for over four years, proving to the entire world that while he could easily outwit his fellow
00:06:13island competitors, he could not outsmart the relentless power of the United States government.
00:06:18I never did anything deserving of prison time. I never attempted to evade taxes,
00:06:24which is what I was convicted of. And I've never not paid or not filed any tax returns my entire
00:06:31life. Number 69, Racism in the Big Brother House, Big Brother. We have a lot to talk about,
00:06:37including the mixed reception you just got. But first, let's talk about game. It was a 5-0 vote.
00:06:43The 15th season of the American Big Brother was completely overshadowed by intense controversy
00:06:48when the show's live internet feeds caught several house guests making vile remarks.
00:06:53Most notably, contestant Erin Grease was routinely documented spewing racist, homophobic,
00:06:58and highly offensive slurs behind the backs of her fellow competitors. Initially ignored by the
00:07:03main broadcast, the network eventually aired the offensive comments on TV to accurately explain the
00:07:08toxic house dynamics. And when Grease was finally evicted, she was brutally confronted by host Julie
00:07:14Chen during her live exit interview. The backlash against Grease was severe, and she was actually
00:07:19dropped by her modeling agency while she was still inside the house.
00:07:23In the early days of this game, you said some pretty harsh things about your fellow housemates.
00:07:29Amanda even tried to warn you, give you a heads up, that some of your words others were interpreting
00:07:34as being racist. How do you respond to that?
00:07:38Number 68, Ashley Simpson's Lip Sync Fail, Saturday Night Live.
00:07:42Musical guest, Ashley Simpson. I'm your host, June Blanc.
00:07:50Remember back in 2004 when a singer caught lip syncing on TV was headline news for like a month?
00:07:55Huh, those were the days. When SNL guest Ashley Simpson returned to the stage for her second song
00:08:01of the night, the pre-recorded vocal track for her first song, Pieces of Me, unexpectedly began
00:08:06playing instead. This technical error immediately revealed to the audience that she was lip syncing,
00:08:11which is a big no-no on SNL. A panicked and heavily embarrassed Simpson did a silly jig before
00:08:16literally just leaving the stage, leaving her band behind to perform an awkward musical version of
00:08:21the song. She probably would have gotten away with the lip syncing if she just played or laughed it
00:08:26off, or if she didn't blame her band. That was the nail in the coffin right there.
00:08:31Ladies and gentlemen, what can I say? Live TV?
00:08:34Exactly. I feel so bad my band started playing the wrong song, and I didn't know what to do,
00:08:38so I thought I'd do a hoedown.
00:08:39Number 67, The Cruelty, The Swan.
00:08:42Four months ago, these nine women were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change their
00:08:49lives forever. Even operating in the Wild West of early 2000s reality TV, The Swan stands out for
00:08:56its sheer ethical toxicity. The controversial series took vulnerable women who were deemed
00:09:00ugly ducklings and subjected them to a gauntlet of extreme plastic surgery, grueling crash diets,
00:09:06and rigorous physical training. To add to the psychological pressure, they were banned from
00:09:11looking in mirrors for the entire three-month process. After months of intense physical
00:09:16alteration, they were forced to compete against one another in a beauty pageant. Even at the time,
00:09:21this was considered grotesque, and The Swan was widely condemned. Critics rightfully argued that
00:09:26the deeply troubling show promoted horrific body image standards and exploited women's deepest
00:09:31insecurities solely for the sake of ratings.
00:09:33I had a little vanity box that had a mirror on it. They took it and wrapped paper around it.
00:09:39They let us know that we're not allowed to see ourselves until our reveal, which would be
00:09:45months down the road.
00:09:46Number 66, Abby Lee Miller's Fraud Conviction, Dance Moms.
00:09:50Nobody is going to talk to me that way. No one.
00:09:54Tough as Nails, Abby Lee Miller, known for screaming her way through the hit show Dance Moms,
00:09:59is in huge legal trouble. She's just been indicted for bankruptcy fraud.
00:10:04Abby Lee Miller was known for her tyrannical teaching methods and explosive screaming matches
00:10:08with the competitive mothers on Dance Moms. However, her most consequential drama happened
00:10:13inside a federal courtroom instead of a dance studio. Miller was officially indicted for fraud
00:10:18after it was discovered that she had hidden hundreds of thousands of dollars of her TV income
00:10:22in secret bank accounts. Faced with overwhelming evidence, Miller ultimately pleaded guilty to the
00:10:28massive financial crimes. She was forced to serve a humbling eight-month stint in federal prison,
00:10:33derailing her TV empire, and tarnishing the fearsome reputation she had built over several
00:10:38dramatic seasons.
00:10:39Nobody wakes up in the morning and says, oh, okay, now how can I cheat everybody out of this or
00:10:44that?
00:10:44That doesn't happen.
00:10:45There's a difference between a mistake and a crime.
00:10:48I feel I took that advice. I can't blame others. I have to take the blame.
00:10:52Number 65, Chris Harrison Steps Down, The Bachelor Franchise.
00:10:56And this is, again, where we all need to have a little grace, a little understanding,
00:11:01a little compassion, because I've seen some stuff online. Again, this judge-jury-executioner
00:11:06thing where people are just tearing this girl's life apart and diving into, like, her parents
00:11:12and her parents' voting record. It's unbelievably alarming to watch this.
00:11:18For nearly two decades, Chris Harrison was the beloved face of Bachelor Nation. However,
00:11:23his career imploded during a highly controversial 2021 television interview.
00:11:28Harrison stubbornly defended a contestant's past attendance at an offensive plantation-themed
00:11:33frat party. His dismissive tone regarding the racial insensitivity sparked immediate public
00:11:38outrage across social media platforms. In fact, the backlash was so severe that it ultimately forced
00:11:43Harrison to step down from the franchise entirely. His sudden departure fundamentally changed the
00:11:48long-running series, proving that even the most established network hosts are not immune to the
00:11:53consequences of their own words.
00:11:55And so, are you going to, you know, cure this? Are you going to fix this to a point where
00:12:02people
00:12:03will say, okay, yeah, no, this girl really gets it. You know, she's woke. She understands this.
00:12:09This is, you know, the girl who really, you know, we're going to give a pass to her. No,
00:12:12no. There will be, I've seen this movie. I know where it's going.
00:12:17Number 64. Bob Barker's Dark Cloud. The Price is Right.
00:12:21For decades, Americans have watched Bob Barker, The Price is Right, and Barker's Beauties.
00:12:25The models made famous by funny skits and bubbly personalities. But according to
00:12:30Holly Hallstrom, behind the scenes was not all fun and games.
00:12:33Who knew The Price is Right of all shows would face a scandal? Bob Barker was widely considered an icon,
00:12:38but his public image was severely tarnished by multiple disturbing lawsuits.
00:12:43In 1994, former Barker's beauty model, Diane Parkinson, famously sued him for sexual harassment,
00:12:49though she ultimately dropped the suit. However, over the following years,
00:12:53several other female models sued Barker and the program's producers for the likes of wrongful
00:12:57termination, weight discrimination, and creating a toxic work environment.
00:13:02These repeated legal battles cast a surprisingly dark shadow over the sunny, joyous game show.
00:13:06They revealed that the harmless daytime staple was actually hiding some severe mistreatment
00:13:11behind the shiny cars and spinning wheels.
00:13:13And eventually he fired me, and he couldn't very well say, well, gee, I'm going to fire her
00:13:19because she refused to perjure herself for me. So he used a recent weight gain that I had
00:13:25experienced on a prescription medication.
00:13:27Number 63. Thomas Gibson Fired. Criminal Minds.
00:13:31In a statement released to E.T., the show explained their decision, quote,
00:13:44Aaron Hotchner was the stoic anchor of the BAU, but Thomas Gibson's behind-the-scenes behavior was
00:13:49anything but controlled. In 2016, Gibson was abruptly fired from the procedural drama following a physical
00:13:56altercation on set. During a heated creative dispute regarding the script, Gibson allegedly kicked a writer-producer
00:14:02in the shins. And this violent outburst was not his first infraction either.
00:14:07Gibson had previously been mandated by the studio to attend anger management classes after aggressively
00:14:12shoving an assistant director during a prior season. His sudden and unceremonious dismissal
00:14:16drastically altered the show's core dynamic, leading a vocal minority of fans to stage protests
00:14:22and create hashtags like No Hotch, No Watch.
00:14:25So I'll just say this. I believe in karma. Good things happen to good people. Treat people how you
00:14:31expect them to treat you. Just know that you're not better than anybody.
00:14:34Number 62. Isaiah Washington's homophobic slur, Grey's Anatomy.
00:14:39It's over. You can all go home.
00:14:45It's over.
00:14:46If we're talking about intense dismissals, we'd be remiss not to mention Isaiah Washington's famous
00:14:51ousting from Grey's Anatomy. In 2006, a damaging report surfaced claiming that Washington used a
00:14:57homophobic slur directed at his co-star T.R. Knight. Washington later compounded the massive error by
00:15:02stubbornly repeating the exact same slur in front of the international press corps at the Golden Globes.
00:15:07The immediate public disgust and network fury led to a swift and highly publicized dismissal from the
00:15:13hit drama. It permanently altered the original ensemble cast during the absolute peak of the
00:15:17show's popularity.
00:15:19No, no, no. There's no soul searching and no apology to T.R. Knight. What I apologize for and I
00:15:23will continue
00:15:23to apologize for, for if you're going to be accused of something, you don't go in the Golden Globes and
00:15:29use the very word that you've been accused of using. That was a huge mistake.
00:15:33Number 61. The Jude Ice Fraud Sentences. The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
00:15:38I mean, she's a hot little Italian-tempered girl. All us Italians maybe have it somewhere.
00:15:42Teresa Giudice was famous for flipping dinner tables, but she couldn't flip her way out of
00:15:47federal charges. Teresa and her husband Joe were officially indicted on multiple counts of fraud,
00:15:52and the reality stars both served significant time in federal prison. The network actually
00:15:57paused the show's production just to wait for Teresa's highly anticipated release so they could
00:16:02film her return. And following the completion of his lengthy sentence, Joe Giudice was officially
00:16:07deported to Italy since he was never an American citizen. The entire saga completely shattered their
00:16:13glamorous TV facade and provided some real-world consequences to the famously dramatic reality
00:16:18franchise. You said before on the show you didn't understand why this was happening to you.
00:16:23Now I understand. Now you understand.
00:16:25Number 60. Mama June's Shocking Relationship. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
00:16:30And you have no doubt in your mind, you are convinced that he sexually molested your daughter.
00:16:39Yes, I mean, and I'm into that.
00:16:41TLC possessed an unexpected phenomenon with this quirky show, but the network swiftly and permanently
00:16:46pulled the plug in 2014. The sudden cancellation came immediately after deeply disturbing reports
00:16:52surfaced in the tabloids. It was revealed that family matriarch Mama June Shannon was actively
00:16:57involved with the same man who had previously been convicted of serious crimes against her own
00:17:01daughter. The horrifying revelation caused immediate public disgust, and the network's rapid
00:17:06cancellation highlighted their strict zero-tolerance policy regarding severe child endangerment.
00:17:11They rightfully prioritized the safety of the children over the massive ratings that the show was
00:17:16generating, proving that there is some good in the reality TV industry after all.
00:17:20If you took her to meet a registered sex offender, you put her in his world.
00:17:27Number 59. Stassi and Kristen are fired. Vanderpump Rules.
00:17:31Stassi Schroeder speaks out for the first time since she was fired from Vanderpump Rules.
00:17:37Long before the infamous Scandaval rocked the internet, Vanderpump Rules faced a more serious
00:17:42reckoning regarding blatant racial profiling. In 2020, original cast members Stassi Schroeder and
00:17:47Kristen Doty were abruptly fired after a disturbing podcast story resurfaced. The duo proudly admitted
00:17:54that they had previously reported their Black co-star Faith Stowers to the local police for a robbery she had
00:17:59absolutely nothing to do with. Amid the height of massive global civil rights protests in 2020,
00:18:05the network fired both veteran reality stars, along with two newer cast members for separate racist social
00:18:11media posts. It marked a massive cultural shift in accountability for the wildly popular Bravo series.
00:18:16Jack's car was put missing out of his home. They said that I was the person that went into his
00:18:22home
00:18:22and did Grand Theft Auto. Like, I went and broke into his home and stole his car. So, they said
00:18:28so much
00:18:28that it was hard to take in and I was really numb at that moment because it was so, it
00:18:34sounded like a movie.
00:18:35Number 58. Dan Spilow's Removal. Survivor. So, I just spoke privately with Dan and I want to update you
00:18:42guys. A decision has been made and Dan will not be returning to the game. We return to the cutthroat
00:18:49game of Survivor for its most widely criticized moment. Multiple female contestants, primarily Kelly
00:18:55Kim, had bravely complained to producers about fellow player Dan Spilow, who was repeatedly engaging in
00:19:00non-consensual touching. The production team's lackluster response, coupled with the disgusting
00:19:05way that other contestants weaponized the allegations for gameplay, sparked immense viewer
00:19:10backlash. The dark situation fundamentally changed the beloved series forever, ultimately forcing the
00:19:15network to heavily revise its strict code of conduct. Following the infamous Spilo fiasco,
00:19:20they implemented new onset protocols to ensure player safety and prevent such horrific misconduct
00:19:26from ever happening on the island again. Dan's been removed from the game. Not even go to the jury,
00:19:31nothing. So, in my opinion, very real world things are coming into the game and we need to process
00:19:40the fact that Dan is gone, but then move beyond. Number 57. The Outfit. Toddlers and Tiaras.
00:19:47A much tamer costume than she wore earlier this year, donning thigh-high boots, a blue mini skirt,
00:19:53and blonde wig, a knockoff of Julia Roberts' prostitute character from Pretty Woman.
00:19:58This infamous series was already a magnet for criticism regarding the blatant hyper-sexualization
00:20:03of young girls. However, one specific episode crossed a terrible line that completely outraged
00:20:08the entire viewing public. A deeply misguided mother intentionally dressed her three-year-old
00:20:13daughter in a miniature replica of Julia Roberts' revealing outfit from Pretty Woman.
00:20:17The highly inappropriate visual drew widespread condemnation from parenting advocacy groups and
00:20:22casual viewers alike. It also fueled massive legal and moral arguments that the show promoted
00:20:28severe child exploitation. Arguments that have followed its legacy ever since.
00:20:33Just weeks later, Paisley's mom, Wendy, took heat again when she dressed Paisley as a biker
00:20:37babe for Halloween. TMZ was harsh, posting the caption,
00:20:41From Baby Hooker Costume to Biker Vixen. Blogs and websites bashed her for exploiting her three-year-old
00:20:47daughter. Number 56, Angus T. Jones slams his own show, Two and a Half Men.
00:20:52A big controversy for one of the most popular shows on TV. The 19-year-old star of Two and
00:20:57a Half Men
00:20:58shocking everyone by publicly dissing the show, pleading with people not to watch.
00:21:03Charlie Sheen wasn't the only star of this popular sitcom to publicly derail during its lengthy run.
00:21:09In 2012, Angus T. Jones, no longer just half a man, appeared in a deeply religious YouTube video.
00:21:15In the clip that soon went viral, he desperately pleaded with loyal viewers to immediately stop
00:21:21watching his show. He explicitly called it, quote, filth, and claimed that it directly
00:21:25contradicted his new and devout Christian beliefs. Needless to say, this was a massive public relations
00:21:31nightmare for the network, and it left them deeply embarrassed. Jones eventually left the show
00:21:36completely to pursue his religious calling, only returning for a very quick, heavily scrutinized
00:21:41cameo in the series finale. Number 55, Rick Rockwell's restraining order, Who Wants to Marry
00:21:54a Multimillionaire? Tonight, a new Fox special, Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire? Don't miss
00:21:59the ultimate pageant ending in a legal marriage on TV, starting right now. This controversial Fox
00:22:04special saw 50 desperate women competing to marry an anonymous wealthy man. Darva Conger ultimately won the
00:22:10pageant, blindly marrying the mysterious Rick Rockwell on live TV. However, the fairy tale
00:22:16dissipated when it was discovered that Rockwell's ex-fiance had filed a restraining order against
00:22:20him for alleged domestic violence. Conger rapidly annulled the highly publicized marriage almost
00:22:25immediately after returning from the honeymoon. The massive public embarrassment forced the network
00:22:30to quickly disavow Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire, and it was quickly and quietly buried in the
00:22:35archives. I did get the sense that maybe he thought this was serious, so as soon as I possibly could,
00:22:41I did, you know, tell him as gently and as kindly as I could, and he was upset. Number 54,
00:22:47The Donkey
00:22:47Juice Challenge, Fear Factor. Imagine a world where your greatest fears become reality.
00:22:54Welcome to Fear Factor. This show was built on stunts and gross-out challenges, but one specific bit
00:23:01went way too far. In an unreleased 2012 episode, desperate contestants were tasked with drinking a
00:23:07disgusting mixture of donkey semen and urine to successfully advance to the next round. The
00:23:12horrifying stunt was so unbelievably vile that parent company executives at NBC immediately intervened.
00:23:18They forcefully pulled the repulsive episode before it even aired in the United States,
00:23:22and the intense media backlash proved that even shock television has boundaries. Host Joe Rogan has
00:23:28since credited this incident with killing the show's anticipated 2011 revival. We guess they
00:23:33lost their appetite. I was hosting this show where I said to the producers, don't do this.
00:23:37Don't do this. I'm like, this show's gonna get canceled. Number 53, The Indecency Fines, NYPD Blue.
00:23:44Is everything all right? Yeah, I'm just checking to see if there's any long-term effects to
00:23:50walking in and seeing me naked this morning. In the conservative landscape of the 1990s,
00:23:54network TV was heavily sanitized, making the gritty NYPD Blue a lightning rod of controversy.
00:24:00The police drama routinely pushed the broadcasting envelope with its frequent use of partial nudity
00:24:05and coarse street language. And in 2003, one episode prominently showcased the bare buttocks of an
00:24:11actress, resulting in a massive and unprecedented $1.2 million fine from the irate FCC. Although this
00:24:18massive penalty was eventually thrown out after a very lengthy legal battle, the scandal forever
00:24:23cemented the show's legacy as a boundary-pushing trailblazer of modern TV.
00:24:37Number 52, The Kardashian-Thompson Cheating Scandal, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
00:24:43Hold on. Yikes.
00:24:51There's a video of Tristan making out with a girl last night. I know. Khloe's gonna die.
00:24:57The famous Kardashian family is no stranger to drama, but the painful betrayal that Khloe faced
00:25:02became an unforgettable cultural flashpoint. Just a few days before Khloe and Tristan Thompson
00:25:06were to have their very first child, shocking video footage suddenly leaked online that forever
00:25:11changed the relationship. It clearly showed the NBA player cheating on Khloe with multiple
00:25:16different women at a crowded lounge. This horrible scandal agonizingly played out on camera for the
00:25:21world to see, highlighting the darkest side of reality TV fame. It quickly became one of the most
00:25:26highly publicized and heavily discussed cheating scandals in the history of reality TV. And that is
00:25:32saying a lot. This is really shocking and obviously heartbreaking. The whole thing makes me disgusted.
00:25:40Number 51, Jen Shah's Telemarketing Fraud, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:25:45There's police and they have handcuffs out.
00:25:48Hold my security.
00:25:49We're looking for Jen Shah.
00:25:51Jen Shah was the breakout star of the famous Salt Lake City reality franchise. However, her luxurious and
00:25:57highly envied lifestyle was secretly being funded by a despicable criminal enterprise. Shah was famously
00:26:03arrested by federal agents for running a nationwide telemarketing scheme that targeted and defrauded
00:26:08vulnerable elderly people. Despite loudly protesting her innocence for an entire TV season,
00:26:14the overwhelming legal evidence proved insurmountable. Shah eventually pleaded guilty to the financial crimes
00:26:19and was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, effectively ending her short but explosive TV career.
00:26:25She left here. She's on the phone and she left here. She got in the car, took her bag and
00:26:29she said
00:26:30that her husband had internal bleeding and she was headed straight to the hospital and she didn't
00:26:33want us to stay with her.
00:26:34Number 50, Vivian Banks, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
00:26:38Now I can see why you like Ice Tray. He's a lot of fun. Everything's a joke to him. School,
00:26:43work,
00:26:44people, he doesn't care about anything.
00:26:45Yeah, well he always managed to care about me.
00:26:47Arguably the most infamous recast in TV sitcom history, this one saw Janet Hubert exit the role of Aunt Viv
00:26:53on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air after three seasons. At the time, Hubert's departure was
00:26:57reported to be the result of a bitter feud with the series star Will Smith. It would take nearly
00:27:02three decades for the record to be set straight. During the Fresh Prince reunion special in 2020,
00:27:07Hubert and Smith settled the argument and the former revealed that she was in fact not fired.
00:27:12Instead, she had rejected a bad deal by the producers, which would have prevented her from
00:27:16working anywhere else for 10 weeks. Rather than negotiate the contract, Hubert was replaced with
00:27:30Daphne Maxwell-Reed.
00:27:31I cannot believe that you and Carlton are moving into your own place. Seems like just yesterday when
00:27:36I was wiping the tears from his eyes.
00:27:39No, no, that was yesterday in Viv. I told you that boy wasn't ready for Jurassic Park yet.
00:27:43Number 49. Mark Schwan's Sexual Harassment Allegations, One Tree Hill.
00:27:48You know she's from Tree Hill?
00:27:50Yeah.
00:27:51I know.
00:27:56So I take it you're not a fan?
00:27:58This teen drama series was created and executive produced by Mark Schwan, who also wrote and directed
00:28:03several episodes. While the show ended on a high note in 2012, it wasn't until five years later that
00:28:09disturbing behind-the-scenes tales came to light. A former staff writer, Audrey Walkup, alleged on
00:28:14social media that she experienced sexual harassment from Schwan while working on the show.
00:28:18Sometimes when you look for an actor, you know exactly what you want them to play,
00:28:23and you look for the person who can fill those shoes.
00:28:26Her claims were later backed up by 18 female former cast and crew members who signed an open
00:28:31letter detailing additional allegations.
00:28:33According to these women, Schwan's behavior was, quote,
00:28:36an open secret and caused lasting emotional harm. Although he never officially addressed
00:28:41the allegations, Schwan was fired from his other show, The Royals.
00:28:45For me as a director, I probably do a little more teaching. Obviously the veterans that have
00:28:49been around the block, I had, my job is to get out of the way.
00:28:53Number 48. Spotlight on a Murderer, Bullseye.
00:28:57John Cooper didn't walk away from Bullseye a winner, but eventually his brief shot at glory
00:29:01was a major win for the British public. Unknown at the time, Cooper was already a two-time
00:29:06murderer, having killed a brother and sister in 1985, and killing Peter and Gwenda Dixon
00:29:11a month after his game show Strikeout.
00:29:20In 1998, Cooper was convicted of a string of robberies and served 10 years in prison.
00:29:25However, soon after his release, police investigated a murder cold case, which through advanced forensic
00:29:30science, DNA and his bullseye footage, they were able to pin on him. Cooper was arrested
00:29:36soon after and convicted in 2011.
00:29:38This wasn't just a robbery for gain. It was an act of a psychopath.
00:29:45Number 47. The Popsicle Twins, The Gong Show.
00:29:49Here comes Have You Got a Nickel?
00:29:57Easily one of the most bizarre moments on The Gong Show, the so-called Popsicle Twins were
00:30:02a duo of young women whose act was titled Have You Got a Nickel? Their segment was initially
00:30:06only aired on the East Coast before being pulled, when it was noticed that the simple
00:30:10act of enjoying an ice lolly was a bit more suggestive than it first appeared.
00:30:14Score-wise, the act was a dud, with only J.P. Morgan picking up what the girls were laying
00:30:19down, and TV's clinger Jamie Farr awarding it a mere two points.
00:30:23Jamie Farr.
00:30:24I don't think they give a lick.
00:30:28Number 46. The Heartbreaking Story of the Original Lori, That 70s Show.
00:30:34Lisa Robin Kelly played Eric's selfish, spoiled, and conniving big sister Lori on That 70s Show
00:30:39during the first three seasons.
00:30:41Hello. Lori. What are you doing here?
00:30:46I'm bored. There's nothing on TV.
00:30:48After that, the character was nowhere to be seen, presumably busy with beauty school.
00:30:53But in reality, Kelly was struggling with addiction. Though on the surface, she was an
00:30:58actress on a successful sitcom. Things were complicated in her private life.
00:31:02I see what's going on here. You're breaking up with me.
00:31:04No. For me to break up with you, there would have to be something between us to break.
00:31:09She briefly returned for season 5, but was eventually replaced, with Christina Moore becoming
00:31:14Lori. Unfortunately, Kelly's battle continued, and she was even arrested multiple times.
00:31:19In 2013, she tried to turn things around by checking into rehab, but she tragically passed away.
00:31:26Number 45. Lori Loughlin, Fuller House.
00:31:29USA? Starring Danny Tanner.
00:31:31Well, really starring Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopoulos.
00:31:34The college admissions scandal involving actors like Lori Loughlin was a hot-button conversation
00:31:39back in 2019. Loughlin paid the University of Southern California a sizable bribe in return
00:31:45for her two daughters getting guaranteed spots at the school.
00:31:48Loughlin and Giannulli accused of paying half a million dollars to the scheme's mastermind,
00:31:53Rick Singer, to get their daughters into USC as fake rowing recruits.
00:31:58She admitted guilt for her crime, ultimately spending two months in prison. Of course,
00:32:02this meant she wouldn't be returning to the reboot series, Fuller House, in which she played
00:32:06the role of Aunt Becky. In the context of the show, the characters explained that Becky had to
00:32:11leave to take care of her mother.
00:32:13Oh, and if you do speak to her, find out who colors her hair. She looks terrific.
00:32:18Number 44. Steven Seagal, Worst Host Ever.
00:32:22Saturday Night Live.
00:32:24It's great to be here in New York, and it's great to be opening up Saturday Night Live.
00:32:28Most of you probably know me from my action-adventure films, Above the Law,
00:32:32Hard to Kill, Mark for Death, stuff like that.
00:32:35Both Lorne Michaels and SNL alums have been pretty vocal about what a terrible host Steven Seagal was.
00:32:41It wasn't because of his performance, or at least not only that, but rather his inability
00:32:45to work with the cast.
00:32:46It couldn't help overhearing what you guys were saying, you know?
00:32:49Oh, you were so quiet, you know? How long were you back there? We were just talking, you know?
00:32:53Yeah, you know, it's just, you know, true enough.
00:32:55Yeah.
00:32:55In the book, Live from New York, The Complete Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live,
00:33:00several SNL alums spoke about Seagal's difficult behavior.
00:33:03That makes me very nervous, you know? People who see my daughter should have plans.
00:33:08These include incidents where he pitched completely tasteless skits,
00:33:11including one where he'd play a therapist trying to have sex with Victoria Jackson
00:33:15instead of counseling her for her sexual assault.
00:33:18The actor has been permanently banned from the show.
00:33:21And perhaps the most interesting, a picture of you listening to the president of the United States,
00:33:25on speakerphone as he reveals his part in the conspiracy.
00:33:31You'll never make this stick still, it won't hold up in court.
00:33:34Oh, I think it will.
00:33:49It's been an open secret that showrunner Lorne Michaels doesn't like a last-minute change.
00:33:54Well, that was especially evident when Elvis Costello performed for SNL in 1977.
00:33:59Filling in for the Sex Pistols, Costello was brought on to perform his newest hit, Less Than Zero.
00:34:04The only problem was, Costello felt the song was irrelevant to American audiences,
00:34:08as it was conceived as an attack against English politician Oswald Mosley.
00:34:12And so, a few bars into the song, Costello halted the performance,
00:34:16vaguely apologized to the audience, and transitioned into Radio Radio.
00:34:25The English rock star would be banned from SNL for over a decade.
00:34:29I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but there's just really no reason to do this song here tonight.
00:34:33Number 42. Scandaval.
00:34:35Vanderpump Rules.
00:34:36Even people who had never seen Lisa Vanderpump's spin-off series
00:34:39seem to know exactly what Scandaval was.
00:34:41The whole fallout was caught by a camera crew.
00:34:44And the scandal that rocked Vanderpump Rules was the talk of the reality TV sphere for months.
00:34:49I don't know how it happened, it just, it happened.
00:34:52We became really good friends.
00:34:54Like, I was seeking something that I wasn't getting here.
00:34:57And that's selfish, that's really selfish.
00:34:59Selfish is the nicest word you could use.
00:35:02The breakdown of Tom Sandoval and Ariana Maddox's relationship
00:35:06after Sandoval's affair with co-star Raquel Levis went public
00:35:08was a real-life soap opera for the social media age.
00:35:11Everyone had an opinion.
00:35:13The scandal has yet to go away.
00:35:15If Tom Sandoval were sitting in front of you right now,
00:35:19what would you say to him?
00:35:23I curse the day you were born.
00:35:26Levis filed lawsuits against both Maddox and Sandoval
00:35:28nearly a year after it all went down.
00:35:31Number 41.
00:35:32Sherry Pie Disqualified.
00:35:34RuPaul's Drag Race.
00:35:35Season 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race saw Willem Belli's mysterious disqualification.
00:35:39And while it may have set the standard for Drag Race controversy,
00:35:43there was something a lot darker to come.
00:35:45Season 12 was rocked by a scandal so damaging,
00:35:48the show had to be re-edited to all but remove one competitor.
00:35:51I hope you save room for dessert, because I bought pie.
00:35:55One of the season's finalists, Sherry Pie,
00:35:57was accused of inappropriate conduct by several men.
00:36:00Sherry Pie was subsequently edited down from the final cut of the episodes,
00:36:04which was a feat considering she made it to the top four.
00:36:07It cast a dark shadow over a season that didn't need one,
00:36:10as it was the first to air during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:36:13I don't want people to think that I don't take full responsibility
00:36:19for the pain that I've caused these people,
00:36:21especially these amazing relationships that I wish that I could fix.
00:36:28Number 40.
00:36:29The Murder of Jasmine Fiore.
00:36:31Megan Wants a Millionaire.
00:36:32Real estate investor Ryan Jenkins reportedly placed third on this dating show.
00:36:36But only three episodes aired.
00:36:39The day before VH1 pulled the plug,
00:36:41Jenkins was charged with the murder of his wife, Jasmine Fiore.
00:36:45Jenkins, however, never lived to stand trial.
00:36:48On August 23, 2009,
00:36:50he was found after having taken his own life in a Canadian hotel.
00:36:54A tragic end to an all-too-real and horrific story.
00:36:59Number 39.
00:37:00Which came first, the Post-It or the Walkman?
00:37:02Million Dollar Money Drop.
00:37:04All right, the three possible answers.
00:37:07Okay.
00:37:07A.
00:37:09Macintosh Computer.
00:37:10I'm good at computers.
00:37:11B.
00:37:11I'm good at computers.
00:37:12Sony Walkman.
00:37:14Okay.
00:37:14Okay.
00:37:15Okay, I have one of those.
00:37:16I have one of those.
00:37:16I have Post-It.
00:37:17All right, yeah, I do that every day.
00:37:18When couples appear on game shows,
00:37:20networks are hoping for some relationship hijinks.
00:37:22And that is exactly what this show got,
00:37:25in the worst way possible.
00:37:27Gabe Okoye and Brittany Métis were well on their way to a million dollars
00:37:30until the which-came-first question came up.
00:37:33Which of these was sold in stores first?
00:37:37Talk it over.
00:37:39Wow, this is hard.
00:37:40This is really hard.
00:37:41Because Post-It notes is like,
00:37:43I'm thinking Post-It notes or Walkman,
00:37:45and I don't think computer.
00:37:47After bickering, Okoye went with the Post-It.
00:37:49And the couple watched as $800,000 fell through a trap door
00:37:53because they got the right answer.
00:37:55Post-It notes first sold in 1980.
00:37:58Though the show's research team had checked with 3M,
00:38:01Post-It's original parent company,
00:38:02a slight technicality meant their information was just plain wrong.
00:38:06Gabe brought to light by viewers,
00:38:08launching an instant internet backlash against Fox,
00:38:11demanding the show pay up,
00:38:12and posting the facts about Post-It's online.
00:38:15Cue the social media outrage.
00:38:17The show offering to bring the couple back,
00:38:19and then, well, the show was canceled after its debut season.
00:38:22Number 38.
00:38:23Brooke Shields' ex wasn't a Drake Remore fan.
00:38:26Friends.
00:38:27Hello!
00:38:28It's Erica.
00:38:30Oh my god, the stalker.
00:38:31Never mind, it's open.
00:38:33In season 2 of Friends,
00:38:34actress and model Brooke Shields played an unhinged fan named Erica
00:38:38who struggled to differentiate reality and fiction.
00:38:41Drake, you are so talented.
00:38:43Let me see those hands.
00:38:44Oh, these hands, these beautiful hands.
00:38:48Oh, I could just eat them.
00:38:50And apparently, she wasn't the only one.
00:38:52How can you be here and there?
00:38:54Because it's a television show.
00:38:56According to Shields' memoir,
00:38:57her then-boyfriend, former tennis sensation Andre Agassi,
00:39:00was particularly peeved by the dinner scene where Erica licks Joey's hand.
00:39:04She wrote that he exited the set
00:39:06and told her she'd, quote,
00:39:08made him look like a fool
00:39:09before heading to his Vegas abode and destroying his trophies.
00:39:13You told me I was the only one!
00:39:17The actress spent three years replacing them,
00:39:20believing his kids might like to have them one day.
00:39:22The pair tied the knot in 1997,
00:39:25but ultimately got divorced.
00:39:27Number 37.
00:39:28Mark Salling Possession of Inappropriate Material, Glee
00:39:36The Fox musical series Glee
00:39:39had already completed its award-winning six-season run
00:39:42when one of its stars became embroiled in a controversy.
00:39:44Mark Salling, known for his role as football player Noah Puckerman,
00:39:48was arrested in 2015
00:39:49for possessing inappropriate material involving youth.
00:39:52Authorities would later discover
00:39:54over 50,000 of such explicit images
00:39:56on his computer and USB flash drives.
00:39:58This was particularly disturbing considering that Glee
00:40:01attracted a large audience of young fans
00:40:03given its high school setting.
00:40:05My dad's a deadbeat, but I don't rule that way.
00:40:07Weren't you fired for being a fast-food fry-later?
00:40:11I've got my pool cleaning business.
00:40:13We live in Ohio.
00:40:14Salling ultimately pleaded guilty to criminal charges
00:40:16and was set to spend four to seven years in jail.
00:40:19However, on January 30th, 2018,
00:40:22before he could face justice for his crimes,
00:40:24Salling decided to end his own life.
00:40:26This morning, an officer on patrol saw his car
00:40:29and found his body.
00:40:31We were not particularly looking for the vehicle,
00:40:33but they found the vehicle.
00:40:34Number 36.
00:40:35Rosie O'Donnell vs. Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
00:40:38The View.
00:40:38The View can sometimes feel like a daytime soap opera.
00:40:42Of all the scandals this talk show has endured over the years,
00:40:45the feud between co-hosts Rosie O'Donnell
00:40:48and Elizabeth Hasselbeck
00:40:49was perhaps the most notorious.
00:40:51The tension between the two reached its boiling point in 2007,
00:40:55when Hasselbeck referred to Iraq as, quote,
00:40:59America's enemy,
00:41:00prompting O'Donnell to argue
00:41:01that the Bush administration was truly at fault.
00:41:03You just said our enemies in Iraq.
00:41:06Did Iraq attack us?
00:41:07The liberal O'Donnell additionally criticized the media
00:41:10for their unflattering portrayal of her,
00:41:12claiming that they favored the conservative Hasselbeck.
00:41:15Here's how it gets spun in the media.
00:41:17Rosie, big, fat, lesbian, loud Rosie,
00:41:20attacks innocent, pure Christian Elizabeth.
00:41:23And I'm not doing it!
00:41:24Following their heated argument,
00:41:26O'Donnell left the show,
00:41:28while Hasselbeck exited five years later.
00:41:30Number 35.
00:41:32Alec Baldwin's gay slur.
00:41:34Up late with Alec Baldwin.
00:41:35Although Alec Baldwin is one of the most outspoken liberals in showbiz,
00:41:39his behavior hasn't always lived up to his professed ideals.
00:41:43In 2013, the Oscar-nominated actor landed in hot water,
00:41:47when he allegedly directed a gay slur at a paparazzo.
00:41:50In due course, Baldwin was suspended from his late-night talk show for two weeks.
00:41:55While Baldwin initially claimed he was misquoted,
00:41:58he ultimately described his outburst in an apology as,
00:42:01quote, offensive and unacceptable.
00:42:04However, the damage was done,
00:42:06as Up late with Alec Baldwin was canceled after only five episodes.
00:42:10It probably didn't help that Baldwin also made homophobic remarks
00:42:14towards reporter George Stark on Twitter.
00:42:16Number 34.
00:42:18Maury Povich's sexual harassment lawsuit.
00:42:21Maury.
00:42:21Maury Povich is no stranger to controversy,
00:42:24as many critics have accused his tabloid talk show of exploiting serious issues.
00:42:29Speaking of exploitation,
00:42:30a $100 million sex harassment lawsuit was filed against Povich
00:42:35and other members of his staff in 2006.
00:42:37The allegations stemmed from Bianca Nardi,
00:42:40a former producer of the Maury Povich show,
00:42:43who claimed that the host and his workers had forced her to watch pornography
00:42:46and attempt to seduce married men at bars while being filmed.
00:42:51She additionally accused executive producer Paul Falhaber
00:42:54of making her wear revealing outfits,
00:42:57and implied that Povich was having an affair with producer Donna Ingber.
00:43:01Number 33.
00:43:02Elmo actor allegations.
00:43:04Sesame Street.
00:43:05They normally don't look at me.
00:43:06They just look at me as like somebody that's carrying around their favorite friend.
00:43:10And that's really what it, especially with kids, they keep their imagination, so.
00:43:14Sesame Street can't seem to catch a break when it comes to controversies.
00:43:17In one instance, a controversy arose over celebrity guest Katy Perry's dress
00:43:21during a music video, causing the segment to be removed.
00:43:31In another, their YouTube channel got hacked, resulting in all of their videos being replaced
00:43:36with adult content.
00:43:38All parents really want is to make sure that their children are safe watching these shows,
00:43:42so when dangerous claims are made, it can cause panic.
00:43:45Kevin Clash, the actor behind the popular Sesame Street character Elmo,
00:43:48had several extremely serious allegations of sexual impropriety leveled against him in 2012.
00:43:54These claims garnered a lot of media attention,
00:43:56and despite the accusations eventually being legally dismissed,
00:44:00Clash left the series.
00:44:02That's right, TV!
00:44:04We can watch The Farm Channel!
00:44:07Quit dancing, TV!
00:44:08Number 32, The Hiring and Firing of Shane Gillis, Saturday Night Live.
00:44:13Comic Shane Gillis out at SNL, who if after just a few days,
00:44:17amid a firestorm of criticism.
00:44:19In hindsight, this was an embarrassment for both parties.
00:44:22On September 12th, 2019, comedian and podcaster Shane Gillis
00:44:27was announced as a cast member for SNL's 45th season.
00:44:30However, he was fired four days later,
00:44:33when clips revealed that the comedian had used racial and homophobic slurs on his podcast.
00:44:37For clarification, these were from 2018.
00:44:41Gillis tweeted an apology of sorts that same night,
00:44:44but the damage had been done.
00:44:46SNL didn't escape unscathed either,
00:44:49receiving criticism for not having done enough background research into their new hire.
00:44:53Gillis issued an initial statement saying,
00:44:55I'm happy to apologize to anyone who's actually offended by anything I said.
00:45:00I am trying to be the best comedian I can be,
00:45:03and sometimes that requires risks.
00:45:05Pablo S. Torre of ESPN's High Noon tweeting,
00:45:08it was only a risk because you and your hack friend are dumb enough to record it.
00:45:13Number 31.
00:45:14John Belushi refused sketches written by women.
00:45:17Saturday Night Live.
00:45:18You look as sweet as you can't be.
00:45:21John Belushi is one of the most revered SNL cast members of the late 70s.
00:45:25John Belushi.
00:45:27But according to Jane Curtin,
00:45:29he was also unapologetically sexist behind the scenes.
00:45:32During her appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show,
00:45:35she said that Belushi was one of several men who tried to sabotage the work of female writers.
00:45:41Curtin claimed that Belushi said that,
00:45:52Never meet your heroes, kids.
00:45:54Number 30.
00:45:56Blackmail attempt against David Letterman.
00:45:58Late show with David Letterman.
00:45:59After a long, hard day,
00:46:01audiences would typically tune in to Late Show with David Letterman for a lighthearted laugh.
00:46:06The talk show took an uncomfortable turn in 2009, though,
00:46:09when Letterman confessed to having several sexual relationships with his female staffers.
00:46:14An extortionist had targeted Letterman,
00:46:17threatening to write a screenplay about the television host's affairs,
00:46:20unless he coughed up $2 million.
00:46:22And he seems to, in this packet,
00:46:25there seems to be quite a lot of terrible stuff he knows about.
00:46:29Cooperating with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office,
00:46:32Letterman wrote a fake check,
00:46:33and his blackmailer was arrested shortly after.
00:46:36While Letterman was met with some negative press following this shocking announcement,
00:46:40he eventually moved on from the scandal,
00:46:42and hosted Late Show for six more years,
00:46:45before retiring in 2015.
00:46:48Number 29.
00:46:49Oprah Winfrey vs. James Fry.
00:46:51The Oprah Winfrey Show.
00:46:53It's a radical departure,
00:46:54it's not a classic,
00:46:56and it is also not fiction.
00:46:58James Fry hit the big time when his memoir,
00:47:00A Million Little Pieces,
00:47:01was selected for Oprah's book club in 2005.
00:47:05Chronicling Fry's history with alcohol and drug abuse,
00:47:07the book became a New York Times bestseller and a cultural sensation.
00:47:12If I was going to write a book that was true,
00:47:13and I was going to write a book that was honest,
00:47:15then I was going to have to write about myself in very, very negative ways.
00:47:19Many readers felt cheated, however,
00:47:22when it was revealed that Fry had fabricated information in his supposed true account.
00:47:27This didn't reflect well on Oprah,
00:47:29who invited Fry onto her show to talk about the controversy.
00:47:32Oprah didn't let Fry off with a slap on the wrist,
00:47:35eventually getting him to confess that he had made up parts of the story.
00:47:39She also brought on publisher Nan Talese to set the record straight.
00:47:42Number 28, On-Set Misconduct, Arrested Development.
00:47:47Jeffrey Tambor was embroiled in sexual misconduct allegations from his other show, Transparent.
00:47:52And during a New York Times interview,
00:47:54the late Jessica Walter, who played Lucille Bluth on Arrested Development,
00:47:57shed light into his behavior on their show.
00:48:00She revealed that while he hadn't, quote,
00:48:02crossed that line, he had exhibited other aggressive behavior.
00:48:05Verbally, yes, he harassed me, but he did apologize.
00:48:09Although he had apologized, it's clear that she had been shaken by the encounter.
00:48:14This wasn't helped by her male co-stars making light of the situation
00:48:18and attempting to justify Tambor's actions.
00:48:21And it is a breeding ground for atypical behavior,
00:48:26and certain people have certain processes.
00:48:28That doesn't mean it's acceptable.
00:48:29Jason Bateman was especially keen to defend his on-screen dad,
00:48:32and was met with plenty of backlash.
00:48:34He ultimately took to Twitter to issue an apology for his insensitive response.
00:48:43Jeff Garland played ill-tempered patriarch Murray Goldberg
00:48:47until his sudden departure from the sitcom in 2021.
00:48:51Several reports of unprofessional and disrespectful behavior on set
00:48:54led to a lengthy HR investigation and Garland's eventual exit.
00:48:59Do not hit the child in the back.
00:49:01That's way too advanced.
00:49:03Too advanced!
00:49:04But he blamed it on his, quote,
00:49:06silliness being misinterpreted, and, quote,
00:49:09political correctness stifling comedians.
00:49:11His disdain for the sitcom was no secret,
00:49:13and he reportedly addressed it during a stand-up set later on.
00:49:17His TV wife, Wendy McClendon-Covey,
00:49:20also implied in a tweet that he made his disinterest quite obvious.
00:49:23Still, since he left mid-season,
00:49:26the show persevered with a body double and editing magic to complete his scenes.
00:49:30However, that only made the elephant in the room even more glaringly obvious.
00:49:35Number 26.
00:49:36Joss Whedon workplace harassment allegations.
00:49:39Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel.
00:49:41When you're known for creating a small female character,
00:49:44people like to sort of put that in a box and say,
00:49:46that's what you're going to do.
00:49:47What I like to do is create human characters.
00:49:49The first domino to fall in the Joss Whedon controversy came in July 2020,
00:49:53when actor Ray Fisher accused Whedon of highly inappropriate behavior
00:49:57during filming of Justice League.
00:49:58Fisher's claims were corroborated by other actors who worked on the film,
00:50:02but it seems Whedon's alleged misconduct stretched back several years.
00:50:06Actress Charisma Carpenter,
00:50:07who appeared in Buffy the vampire slayer and its spinoff Angel,
00:50:10alleged that Whedon had repeatedly harassed her and, quote,
00:50:13abused his power.
00:50:14We'll kill you if he gets a chance. You got that?
00:50:16Jeez, we got it. Circle. Angry. Kill, kill, kill. Go to church already.
00:50:20She was supported by some of her other co-stars,
00:50:23including Sarah Michelle Gellar herself, since then.
00:50:26Fans of the Buffyverse have admitted to seeing the shows
00:50:28in an entirely different light,
00:50:30once symbols of female empowerment,
00:50:32now tainted by Hollywood's pervasive toxicity.
00:50:35Is this love? Because maybe I knew it doesn't look that different.
00:50:39What are you doing? Are you going like Stalker Boy on me now?
00:50:43Number 25.
00:50:44Conan O'Brien vs. Jay Leno.
00:50:45The Tonight Show.
00:50:47The original war for late night can be traced back to 1992,
00:50:51when Jay Leno became Johnny Carson's successor,
00:50:53over David Letterman.
00:50:55This influenced Letterman to move from NBC to CBS,
00:50:58while Conan O'Brien was hired to fill the NBC late night time slot.
00:51:03History essentially repeated itself almost two decades later,
00:51:06when Leno exited The Tonight Show,
00:51:08so O'Brien could assume his hosting duties.
00:51:10Unfortunately, O'Brien's ratings struggled,
00:51:13and the decision to give Leno a primetime talk show turned out to be a huge miscalculation.
00:51:19Since pushing back the schedule wasn't an option,
00:51:22O'Brien was given a $45 million payout,
00:51:25while Leno returned to The Tonight Show in 2010.
00:51:33Andrew Dice Clay was one of the most famous and infamous comedians of the 80s.
00:51:38His Diceman persona and shock humor both sold out venues and incensed critics,
00:51:43who slammed his act as sexist, homophobic, and racist.
00:51:47When The Comedian was scheduled to host Saturday Night Live on May 12, 1990,
00:51:51SNL's Nora Dunn decided to boycott the show.
00:51:54Welcome to The Pat Stevens Show.
00:51:56I'm Pat Stevens.
00:51:57Before we meet our guests today,
00:51:59let's answer some letters from our viewers.
00:52:05Dear Pat, you're a former model.
00:52:09Musical guest Sinead O'Connor followed suit.
00:52:11The show went on as scheduled, with beefed-up security measures,
00:52:15but not without an angry audience,
00:52:17some of whom had to be forcibly removed.
00:52:21Isn't that wonderful? I'm so proud.
00:52:25Number 23.
00:52:26Anjali Disqualified, America's Next Top Model.
00:52:29It turns out that after shooting was wrapped,
00:52:31our production team and the network learned information from Anjali
00:52:34that disqualifies her from the competition.
00:52:37Tyra Banks' modeling competition has had its fair share of unfortunate,
00:52:41offensive, and downright cruel moments.
00:52:44But its All-Stars edition was clouded by controversy
00:52:47when competitor Anjali Preston was disqualified for unspecified reasons in the finale episode.
00:52:52You know what, guys?
00:52:53We wish Anjali the best in all her future endeavors.
00:52:56Oh, absolutely.
00:52:57Absolutely.
00:52:58So are we ready to proceed with our final judging?
00:53:00The aired finale saw Lisa D'Amato being named the winner.
00:53:03Preston would later come forward with the truth.
00:53:06Banks had originally awarded Preston the title in the 17th season,
00:53:09only to take it away once producers learned Preston had worked as an escort.
00:53:14This only came out when the contestants sued Banks, the producers, and the network.
00:53:17So it was a stupid decision that I made.
00:53:21And then it came back to bite me with them decrowning me.
00:53:26Her lawsuit didn't go far, but it did add to contemporary reappraisals
00:53:30of the show's harsh treatment of its rotating cast of young, impressionable, aspiring models.
00:53:50For years, Ellen DeGeneres projected an image of kindness
00:53:53that resonated across her various endeavors,
00:53:56particularly her eponymous daytime talk show.
00:53:58That image was irreparably shattered in 2020
00:54:01when a group of former employees came forward,
00:54:03revealing a toxic work environment on set.
00:54:06DeGeneres, whose long-standing mantra had been to always, quote,
00:54:10be kind, took responsibility for the toxic culture on the show
00:54:13and apologized on air during the 18th season's premiere.
00:54:16The truth is, I am that person that you see on TV.
00:54:19I am also a lot of other things.
00:54:22Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient.
00:54:27But this gesture did little or nothing to repair the damage.
00:54:30Her once pristine reputation, and that of the series,
00:54:33had already suffered a major blow.
00:54:35Consequently, the following year,
00:54:37it was announced that the long-running daytime talk show
00:54:39would be coming to an end.
00:54:41You surrounded me with so much love and so much support.
00:54:44You nurtured me, and you found a way to make me shine brighter
00:54:48than I could do it by myself.
00:54:50Number 21.
00:54:51Kanye West has a meltdown.
00:54:53Saturday Night Live.
00:54:55This prance for everybody that feels like they're not good enough.
00:54:59Everybody that said I'm sorry too many times.
00:55:01Given his penchant for tantrums and tirades,
00:55:04it should be no surprise to see Kanye on this list.
00:55:07In 2018, Kanye made headlines with a political rant
00:55:10during SNL's credits about President Donald Trump,
00:55:13the quote, liberal media, and his own presidential aspirations.
00:55:17But that wasn't his first meltdown on the show.
00:55:20In February 2016, he almost walked out moments before his performance
00:55:24because he didn't like the set.
00:55:26The notoriously egotistical rapper's meltdown got so bad
00:55:29that it took both Lorne Michaels and Kim Kardashian to calm him down.
00:55:33A short time later, audio clips of Kanye's tantrum surfaced.
00:55:36And needless to say, it was truly cringeworthy.
00:55:39Number 20.
00:55:41Allison Mack's involvement with NXIVM.
00:55:43Smallville.
00:55:44Clark Kent is a football player and Lana Lang is a waitress.
00:55:49What's the matter with that?
00:55:50Nothing.
00:55:51I just want to click my heels and get back to reality.
00:55:54Although it premiered on the relatively new network The WB,
00:55:57Smallville quickly garnered a dedicated fan base among young adults,
00:56:00which thrust its main cast into the limelight.
00:56:03Among them was Allison Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan.
00:56:06I think I may know what's gotten into Clark.
00:56:08During her time on the show,
00:56:10Mack became involved with the self-improvement cult NXIVM,
00:56:13rising to a prominent position within the organization.
00:56:15Leveraging her fame from Smallville,
00:56:17Mack recruited several women into NXIVM,
00:56:20who were subsequently exploited in various forms.
00:56:22For her part, Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering charges
00:56:25and received a three-year prison sentence.
00:56:28Consequently, her association with Smallville
00:56:30has cast a shadow over the show,
00:56:32causing hesitation among many who may want to revisit it.
00:56:35Come on, listen to what I said earlier,
00:56:37and I'm a villain and actress.
00:56:39I wasn't into like this organization,
00:56:41but I started to discover that I was so much more than just an actress.
00:56:44Number 19.
00:56:46Stephen Collins admits to sexual misconduct,
00:56:48Seventh Heaven.
00:56:49Come on, we had to trust her with Robbie sometime.
00:56:52No, we don't.
00:56:53I keep wanting to lock her up till she turns 21, but no.
00:56:57For over a decade,
00:56:58Stephen Collins portrayed Reverend Eric Camden,
00:57:01a Protestant minister on the TV series Seventh Heaven.
00:57:04Through the show, Collins built a reputation
00:57:06as a wholesome and morally upright individual,
00:57:08but in real life, it seems he was the stark opposite.
00:57:11In 2014, an audio tape leaked to the press
00:57:15in which Collins discussed having inappropriate contact
00:57:17with minors in the past.
00:57:19I don't know where they learned that stuff.
00:57:21I can't imagine.
00:57:22He later fully admitted to the claims
00:57:24in an interview with People magazine,
00:57:26noting that the incidents occurred in 1973, 1982, and 1994.
00:57:31These revelations directly contradicted
00:57:34the values espoused by the show,
00:57:35leaving many fans deeply troubled by the dissonance
00:57:38between Collins' on-screen persona
00:57:40and his real-life actions.
00:57:41Tell us what happened.
00:57:43Well, in 1973,
00:57:46there were two occasions when I exposed myself.
00:58:02There are reasons why there are stringent laws
00:58:05and regulations regarding children working
00:58:07in the film and television industry.
00:58:09Sure, it might make for exciting programming,
00:58:11but the aim isn't to scar them for life.
00:58:13The cash prize reality show Kid Nation
00:58:15sent a group of 40 children of various ages
00:58:18into the desert,
00:58:19challenging them to create a functioning society.
00:58:21People are not going to eat off of this.
00:58:24I'm sick of this.
00:58:25I'm going to get every single person I see
00:58:27and I'm going to get them over here
00:58:29and they're going to do these dishes
00:58:30whether they like it or not.
00:58:31The crew was informed to be involved
00:58:33as little as possible,
00:58:35allowing these vulnerable kids
00:58:36to experience genuinely distressing events.
00:58:39The disturbing premise
00:58:40resembles William Golding's novel
00:58:42Lord of the Flies,
00:58:43and audiences agreed.
00:58:45Unfortunately,
00:58:46the parents were apparently poorly informed
00:58:48regarding what was involved,
00:58:49and the backlash meant it only lasted one season.
00:58:52What is this?
00:58:53Like, a Nazi regime?
00:58:55Why are you,
00:58:56why do you all fear so much of it?
00:58:58That's, that's, that's,
00:58:58that's, that's...
00:58:59Hey, hey!
00:59:00Number 17,
00:59:01Phil Robertson's Homophobic Remarks,
00:59:04Duck Dynasty.
00:59:05Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson
00:59:07came under fire
00:59:08after a controversial GQ interview.
00:59:10He was quick to point out
00:59:11that he believes a relationship
00:59:13between same-sex people is sinful.
00:59:15His son Alan defended his views
00:59:17and went as far as comparing his dad
00:59:20to John the Baptist.
00:59:21He added that the public outcry
00:59:23hasn't changed who they are as a family.
00:59:26A&E decided to call off
00:59:28the initial suspension of Duck Dynasty
00:59:29and cited that the family
00:59:31apologized for the statements.
00:59:34Number 16,
00:59:35Chevy Chase, Community.
00:59:37Pierce!
00:59:38We'll see you when we see you.
00:59:45Apparently, it's well-known around Hollywood
00:59:47that Chevy Chase is difficult to work with.
00:59:50The comedy legend also happens to be infamous
00:59:52for his outrageous behavior
00:59:53on film and television sets.
00:59:55Chase held the role of Pierce Hawthorne
00:59:57on Community up until the show's fifth season,
00:59:59in which Pierce was comically killed off.
01:00:02I guess I knew Pierce was part of a weird futuristic cult,
01:00:05but I wasn't prepared for a funeral
01:00:07with so much beeping.
01:00:09Chase was known to disagree
01:00:11with the show's creator, Dan Harmon,
01:00:12and his ideas and direction for the character.
01:00:15Cast and crew members expressed
01:00:16that he frequently used offensive and racist language
01:00:19with no remorse whatsoever.
01:00:21It's jealousy.
01:00:23I've said that to you before,
01:00:25but you can't really say that.
01:00:27Did you just say
01:00:28that writers writing anything negative
01:00:31is jealousy?
01:00:32Yeah, I did.
01:00:33Number 15,
01:00:34Louis C.K. Sexual Misconduct Allegations.
01:00:37Well, sometimes I won't do it for like a week,
01:00:39but that's just so that when I do it again,
01:00:41it'll be way better.
01:00:41When stand-up comedians develop series
01:00:43based on their lives,
01:00:45they often infuse them with real-life events.
01:00:47That was especially true for Louis C.K.,
01:00:49who created, wrote, directed,
01:00:51and produced the FX series Louis,
01:00:53in which he portrayed a fictionalized version of himself.
01:00:56In 2017,
01:00:57C.K. and the show were plunged into a scandal
01:01:00when several women accused him
01:01:01of sexually inappropriate behavior.
01:01:03This revelation prompted a reassessment
01:01:05of his previous stand-up material,
01:01:07some of which seemed to overlap with the allegations.
01:01:10Louis C.K. has a history, comedically,
01:01:12of frequently making jokes
01:01:14about masturbation and sexual assault.
01:01:16And he's normalizing sexually assaulting women
01:01:19and has a history of that.
01:01:21Louis was ultimately canceled
01:01:22after C.K. admitted
01:01:23that the accusations were indeed true.
01:01:26Due to the striking parallels
01:01:27between the show and the comedian,
01:01:29many have found it challenging
01:01:30to separate the art from the artist.
01:01:33There's things about me
01:01:34that if you knew them,
01:01:35you would be very disgusted.
01:01:37I'm not disgusted with you.
01:01:39I'm concerned for you, maybe.
01:01:42But you're a good person.
01:01:44Number 14.
01:01:45Jenny Jones' Guest Gets Murdered,
01:01:47The Jenny Jones Show.
01:01:48Okay, you think about it,
01:01:49you have fantasies about him?
01:01:50I've had a couple, yeah.
01:01:52The Jenny Jones Show aired for over a decade,
01:01:54but it's actually best remembered
01:01:56for an episode that never even aired.
01:01:59Entitled Same-Sex Secret Crushes,
01:02:01the episode centered on a guest named Scott Amador,
01:02:04who, on the show,
01:02:05revealed his crush to an acquaintance
01:02:07named Jonathan Schmitz.
01:02:09Three days after the episode was taped,
01:02:11Schmitz reportedly found a suggestive note from Amador.
01:02:14Schmitz subsequently purchased a shotgun,
01:02:17shot Amador two times in the chest,
01:02:19and alerted the authorities of the crime
01:02:21he had just committed.
01:02:22Having a history of mental illness,
01:02:24Schmitz was convicted of second-degree murder.
01:02:26Meanwhile, The Jenny Jones Show faced a wrongful death lawsuit,
01:02:31and was forced to pay Amador's family $25 million.
01:02:35Number 13.
01:02:36The John and Kate Saga.
01:02:38John and Kate Plus 8.
01:02:39It's not over yet,
01:02:43but I never had a clear picture of how it would end.
01:02:47This TLC series showing the daily life of a family
01:02:49with a set of twins and a set of sextuplets
01:02:52was an instant hit.
01:02:53But in 2009,
01:02:54viewers were shocked when parents John and Kate
01:02:56announced they were separating.
01:02:58Things only got messier from there,
01:03:00as he insisted that his kids not be
01:03:02on the largely John-less Kate Plus 8.
01:03:12He was also sued by the network for breach of contract
01:03:16after making other television appearances.
01:03:18In recent years,
01:03:19he said that almost none of the kids
01:03:21are in contact with him anymore.
01:03:22This show may have ended years ago,
01:03:24but the drama truly never stops with this family.
01:03:27It's a different time for me in my life
01:03:29only because one day they were in my house
01:03:31and then the next day they're not.
01:03:33And you've been doing that for a long time.
01:03:35And you're known for doing that.
01:03:37And then all of a sudden they're not there anymore
01:03:38and you're like,
01:03:39what am I going to do now?
01:03:41Number 12.
01:03:42The Dating Game Serial Killer.
01:03:43The Dating Game.
01:03:44Please welcome Rodney Alcala.
01:03:46Rod, welcome.
01:03:49Rodney Alcala appeared as Bachelor No. 1
01:03:51on The Dating Game in 1978
01:03:52and managed to charm his way through the show
01:03:55to win the date.
01:03:56A decision she would have soon come to regret,
01:03:59Cheryl Bradshaw thankfully didn't end up
01:04:01going through with it.
01:04:02As it turns out,
01:04:03Alcala had a terrifying criminal history
01:04:05involving multiple murders,
01:04:06kidnapping and sexual assault,
01:04:08with his victims ranging from adult women
01:04:10to young girls.
01:04:11Rodney Alcala was arrested on July 24th
01:04:15for the kidnap and murder of Robin Samsoe,
01:04:18but the struggle to prove it
01:04:19had only just begun.
01:04:22Moving forward,
01:04:23the importance of doing extensive background checks
01:04:25on contestants cannot be overstated.
01:04:28They could be cheaters.
01:04:29They could be frauds.
01:04:30They could be Rodney Alcala.
01:04:32Rodney Alcala.
01:04:34What does that name mean to you today?
01:04:37It means evil.
01:04:41It means horror.
01:04:43It means pain.
01:04:46And a lot of anger.
01:04:51Just when it seemed like the 2016 U.S. presidential election
01:04:56couldn't get any crazier,
01:04:57a 2005 hot mic recording surfaced
01:05:00in which Republican candidate Donald Trump
01:05:02shared an offensive and potentially incriminating conversation
01:05:05with Access Hollywood host Billy Bush.
01:05:08Grab him by the...
01:05:09On a bus ride,
01:05:10Trump not only admitted that he tried and failed
01:05:13to seduce Nancy O'Dell,
01:05:14but also made some vulgar statements
01:05:16while discussing actress Arianne Zucker.
01:05:18The scandal took a drastic toll on Bush's public image,
01:05:22resulting in his termination from the Today Show.
01:05:25Meanwhile, Trump continued his campaign
01:05:27and was elected president almost a month later.
01:05:30You don't get to say that
01:05:32because I was there in the last 14 months of my life.
01:05:35I've been dealing with it.
01:05:36You dealt with it for 14 minutes
01:05:37and went on to be the president.
01:05:40Number 10, Josh Duggar's crimes.
01:05:4319 kids and counting and counting on.
01:05:46Josh is our oldest.
01:05:47He married Anna and they have our first grandchildren.
01:05:50The biggest TLC scandal to date came about
01:05:52when the eldest Duggar child Josh
01:05:54was accused of mistreating girls,
01:05:56including some of his sisters,
01:05:57when he was a teenager.
01:05:59Naturally, this prompted the network
01:06:00to ax 19 kids and counting from its lineup.
01:06:03And the distressing story doesn't end there,
01:06:06as many more allegations have occurred
01:06:07since the show was called off.
01:06:09Duggar has also been accused of cheating on his wife,
01:06:12assaulting a woman,
01:06:13and possessing highly inappropriate materials
01:06:15featuring children.
01:06:16In late May of 2022,
01:06:18Duggar was sentenced to 12 and seven months in prison
01:06:21for the latter crime,
01:06:22finally answering for his horrific actions.
01:06:24As you can imagine,
01:06:26counting on was also canceled.
01:06:28But the truth is that kids,
01:06:30kids will make their own choices
01:06:32and they will make their own decisions
01:06:34even though you've taught them
01:06:35what's right and wrong.
01:06:36Number nine,
01:06:37Jussie Smollett, Empire.
01:06:39I am forever changed.
01:06:41And I don't subscribe to the idea
01:06:43that everything happens for a reason,
01:06:44but I do subscribe to the idea
01:06:46that we have the right
01:06:47and the responsibility
01:06:48to make something meaningful
01:06:50out of the things that happen to us,
01:06:52good and bad.
01:06:53It all began on January 22nd of 2019
01:06:56when Empire actor Jussie Smollett
01:06:58received a threatening letter
01:06:59with a suspicious powder
01:07:00later confirmed to be Tylenol.
01:07:02The following week,
01:07:03Smollett reported that he had been attacked
01:07:05by two men who doused a chemical over him
01:07:07and called him derogatory slurs.
01:07:09But I fought back.
01:07:10They ran off.
01:07:11I didn't.
01:07:12Investigators immediately got to work
01:07:13on what seemed to be a hate crime,
01:07:15but police eventually began
01:07:17to find loopholes in Smollett's story.
01:07:19It was later revealed
01:07:20that the actor had staged the incident
01:07:22with two men who had appeared
01:07:23as extras on the musical drama series.
01:07:25And it didn't take too long
01:07:26for producers to kick him off the roster.
01:07:29Hey.
01:07:31Is that all a dream?
01:07:35No, it wasn't a dream, Tori.
01:07:37Number 8.
01:07:38Matt Lauer's sexual misconduct allegations.
01:07:41Today.
01:07:41In rapid succession,
01:07:43from Bill O'Reilly to Charlie Rose,
01:07:45media personalities were publicly accused
01:07:48of sexual harassment in 2007.
01:07:50Have you done some soul searching?
01:07:53Have you done some self-reflection?
01:07:56And have you looked at the way
01:07:57you treated women that you think now
01:07:59or think about differently now
01:08:01than you did at the time?
01:08:02However,
01:08:03the sexual misconduct allegations
01:08:05directed at Matt Lauer
01:08:06shocked audiences perhaps the most.
01:08:08A staple of the Today Show
01:08:10for almost 20 years,
01:08:12Lauer was abruptly fired
01:08:13after a female NBC employee
01:08:15accused him of sexually harassing her
01:08:18three years earlier.
01:08:19And I'm heartbroken
01:08:20for the brave colleague
01:08:21who came forward
01:08:22to tell her story
01:08:23and any other women
01:08:25who have their own stories to tell.
01:08:27It became clear
01:08:27that this was unlikely
01:08:29to be an isolated incident
01:08:30as more women came forward.
01:08:33In one instance,
01:08:34Lauer was accused
01:08:34of summoning a former employee
01:08:36to his office
01:08:37and sexually assaulting her
01:08:38behind a locked door.
01:08:40The fact that Lauer
01:08:41was such a beloved host
01:08:42only made this more disturbing.
01:08:44What a great job we have.
01:08:46Yeah.
01:08:47when you look,
01:08:47you realize all the things
01:08:48we get to do
01:08:49and it has flown by.
01:08:52Number 7.
01:08:53Danny Masterson,
01:08:54The Ranch.
01:08:55My alarm system
01:08:56is connected to the police
01:08:59and they give them the alert,
01:09:00you know,
01:09:00if there's an intruder.
01:09:01So,
01:09:03they're probably on the way right now.
01:09:04The Netflix series,
01:09:05The Ranch,
01:09:06starred Ashton Kutcher
01:09:07and Danny Masterson,
01:09:08who played brothers
01:09:09operating a cattle ranch.
01:09:10However,
01:09:11leading into the sixth part
01:09:12of the show,
01:09:13Masterson was cut from the cast.
01:09:15This is due to a slew
01:09:16of assault charges
01:09:17that were pressed
01:09:17against the actor,
01:09:18which began in 2017.
01:09:25Where's my brother?
01:09:26The decision to eliminate
01:09:27Masterson from the cast
01:09:28isn't surprising
01:09:29considering the severity
01:09:30of the allegations made,
01:09:32which we'll let you investigate
01:09:33at your own discretion.
01:09:34He was also not asked
01:09:36to return for that 90s show
01:09:37as his character Stephen Hyde
01:09:39for these same reasons.
01:09:40Number 6.
01:09:41Kevin Spacey
01:09:42House of Cards
01:09:43You have the most difficult
01:09:45job on earth.
01:09:46It would take a toll
01:09:47on any marriage.
01:09:49Which is why I'm urging you
01:09:51to reconsider your decision
01:09:52on the bridge.
01:09:53It was the scandal
01:09:54that shook the TV world.
01:09:55Amidst the Me Too Hollywood wave,
01:09:57actor Anthony Rapp
01:09:58came forward
01:09:59with allegations
01:09:59that Kevin Spacey
01:10:00had assaulted him in 1986.
01:10:02In response,
01:10:04Spacey put out a statement
01:10:05claiming to not remember
01:10:06the incident
01:10:06and weirdly decided
01:10:08to use the opportunity
01:10:09to come out as gay.
01:10:10This decision was seen
01:10:11by many as an attempt
01:10:12to deflect from Rapp's
01:10:14allegations
01:10:14and garner sympathy
01:10:15for himself.
01:10:16The misconduct
01:10:17halted production
01:10:17on the show's
01:10:18sixth and final season
01:10:19and led to massive rewrites.
01:10:21Spacey was fired
01:10:22from the production
01:10:23and his character
01:10:24Frank Underwood
01:10:25was killed off.
01:10:27My turn.
01:10:29Number 5.
01:10:30The Puerto Rican Episode
01:10:31Seinfeld
01:10:32Any fan who only
01:10:33became acquainted
01:10:34with Jerry and the Gang
01:10:35through reruns
01:10:36might not even know
01:10:37that this season 9
01:10:38episode exists.
01:10:39It depicts the group
01:10:40getting caught in traffic
01:10:41because of the
01:10:42Puerto Rican Day
01:10:42Parade celebrations.
01:10:44Oh no.
01:10:45It's the Puerto Rican
01:10:47Day Parade.
01:10:48Oh, the city
01:10:49shuts down
01:10:50Fifth Avenue.
01:10:51They never let
01:10:51anyone through.
01:10:52And there was
01:10:53more than one
01:10:54problematic moment.
01:10:55The scene that
01:10:56understandably prompted
01:10:57the most outcry
01:10:58involved Kramer
01:10:59stomping on the
01:11:00Puerto Rican flag
01:11:01after accidentally
01:11:02setting it on fire.
01:11:04Hola Jerry!
01:11:06I'm into this
01:11:06Puerto Rican day.
01:11:07The sight,
01:11:08the sound,
01:11:09the hot,
01:11:10spicy flavor of it all.
01:11:11It's caliente Jerry!
01:11:13The episode was
01:11:14heavily blasted
01:11:15for its harmful
01:11:15portrayal of Puerto Ricans
01:11:17and disrespectful
01:11:18flag use.
01:11:19Still,
01:11:20some of the actors
01:11:20and crew members
01:11:21refuted claims
01:11:22that it was offensive.
01:11:23Ultimately,
01:11:24NBC issued an apology
01:11:25and the episode
01:11:26was removed from
01:11:27circulation for a few years.
01:11:29Number 4.
01:11:30Roseanne gets ousted
01:11:31from the Conners.
01:11:32Roseanne.
01:11:33Dan!
01:11:34What?
01:11:34This thing's all
01:11:35backed up again.
01:11:36I'll plunge it
01:11:37right after breakfast.
01:11:38Fans of the sitcom's
01:11:39original run
01:11:40were excited to learn
01:11:41of its return in 2018.
01:11:43However,
01:11:44the bliss was short-lived
01:11:45with the titular star
01:11:46sending out a racist tweet
01:11:48insulting Obama
01:11:49White House aide
01:11:50Valerie Jarrett.
01:11:51Following the backlash,
01:11:52she apologized
01:11:53and blamed the event
01:11:54on her medication.
01:11:55But the damage
01:11:56was already done.
01:11:57The show was cancelled,
01:11:59she was fired,
01:12:00and several networks
01:12:01even pulled reruns.
01:12:02Dad,
01:12:03will you tell her
01:12:03how stupid she's been?
01:12:05That's never worked out for me.
01:12:07Many of her co-stars
01:12:09tried to distance themselves
01:12:10from the controversy
01:12:11and moved on without her,
01:12:13creating the Conners spin-off.
01:12:15Rosie needed painkillers.
01:12:18I had some.
01:12:19So I gave them to her.
01:12:21So?
01:12:22About a year later,
01:12:23Barr attempted to blame
01:12:24the fallout
01:12:25on her TV daughter
01:12:25Sarah Gilbert,
01:12:26who was openly critical
01:12:28of her actions.
01:12:29Number three.
01:12:30One man down.
01:12:31Two and a half men.
01:12:32We all remember
01:12:34Charlie Sheen's
01:12:35infamous 2011 interview.
01:12:36Oh, I have one speed,
01:12:37I have one gear.
01:12:38Go!
01:12:39How do you survive that?
01:12:41Because I'm me.
01:12:42Well, it was around
01:12:43that same time
01:12:43that he was let go
01:12:44from Two and a Half Men.
01:12:46He was one of America's
01:12:47highest paid television actors,
01:12:49starring in CBS's
01:12:50most popular sitcom.
01:12:51Let's just keep this
01:12:52to ourselves.
01:12:53Our little secret.
01:12:54But after a number
01:12:55of scandals,
01:12:56battle with addiction,
01:12:57and a publicized
01:12:58falling out with
01:12:59Warner Brothers
01:13:00and co-creator
01:13:00Chuck Lorre,
01:13:01he was fired.
01:13:03Charlie Harper
01:13:03was killed off
01:13:04and replaced
01:13:05by Walden Schmidt,
01:13:06played by Ashton Kutcher.
01:13:08I can't find any record
01:13:09of your brother's death.
01:13:10You sure?
01:13:11Newspapers?
01:13:12Obituaries?
01:13:12According to
01:13:13The Last Vanity Card,
01:13:15Sheen could have returned
01:13:16for the series finale,
01:13:17but he and Lorre
01:13:18had very different ideas
01:13:19of how that might play out,
01:13:21so it never happened.
01:13:23Number two.
01:13:24Bill Cosby's
01:13:25Sexual Assault Cases,
01:13:26The Cosby Show.
01:13:27All right,
01:13:28now this is something
01:13:29I will cherish
01:13:30the rest of my life.
01:13:31Now all of you,
01:13:32get out.
01:13:33Millions around the world
01:13:34came to know
01:13:35and love Bill Cosby
01:13:36through his sitcom
01:13:37The Cosby Show.
01:13:38The series,
01:13:38which was celebrated
01:13:39as groundbreaking
01:13:40for its positive portrayal
01:13:41of an affluent
01:13:42African-American family,
01:13:43became deeply intertwined
01:13:45with Cosby's public persona.
01:13:47Pop, pop,
01:13:48weasel.
01:13:49Weasel.
01:13:50Weasel.
01:13:51Weasel.
01:13:52However,
01:13:53beginning in late 2014,
01:13:55shocking revelations emerged
01:13:56that Cosby had sexually assaulted
01:13:58dozens of women
01:13:59over several decades.
01:14:00As a result,
01:14:01the image he had built
01:14:02as a beloved father figure
01:14:04and role model shattered,
01:14:05and The Cosby Show
01:14:06became tainted by association.
01:14:08In light of the allegations,
01:14:09the series was removed
01:14:10from syndication
01:14:11in many countries.
01:14:12Cosby may have evaded justice
01:14:14due to illegal technicality,
01:14:15but his crimes
01:14:16have forever altered
01:14:17the way his show
01:14:18is perceived
01:14:19and remembered.
01:14:20We are here
01:14:21to announce today

01:15:00Number one,
01:15:01Dan Schneider's legacy,
01:15:03Various.
01:15:04I think more broadly,
01:15:05when you have a cult
01:15:06of personality
01:15:07in any work environment,
01:15:09inevitably,
01:15:10it's ripe for toxicity.
01:15:12In 2018,
01:15:14Nickelodeon parted ways
01:15:15with one of their most
01:15:16prolific creators
01:15:17of all time.
01:15:18But despite his resume,
01:15:20odds are that Dan Schneider
01:15:21will only be remembered
01:15:22for the mountain
01:15:23of allegations levied
01:15:24against him.
01:15:25Many insiders
01:15:25have come out
01:15:26accusing Schneider
01:15:27of repeated sexual harassment.
01:15:29For decades,
01:15:30Dan seemed like
01:15:30he was untouchable,
01:15:32but around 2017,
01:15:34the internet videos
01:15:34around Dan
01:15:35really started
01:15:36gaining momentum.
01:15:37This included
01:15:38former iCarly star
01:15:39Jeanette McCurdy,
01:15:40who spent a section
01:15:41of her memoir
01:15:42detailing her harrowing
01:15:43experiences
01:15:44with someone
01:15:44only referred to
01:15:45as the creator.
01:15:46Given the extent
01:15:47of the charges,
01:15:48many fans have also
01:15:49pointed to scenes
01:15:50in Schneider's work
01:15:51that have not aged
01:15:52well at all.
01:15:53As a result,
01:15:54it's unlikely Schneider
01:15:55or his legacy
01:15:56will ever recover.
01:15:58How safe can any kids
01:15:59be in that environment
01:16:00if that's how
01:16:01the adult women
01:16:02are being treated
01:16:03behind the scenes?
01:16:04What do you make
01:16:04of these scandals?
01:16:05Let us know
01:16:06in the comments.
01:16:06We'll see you next time.
