00:00What do you make of the Mo Salah situation? Were you shocked?
00:03No, not at all. I think it's in everyone's best interests now.
00:07I think the timing's right, in my opinion.
00:10Especially after the... He's obviously had a disagreement with the manager.
00:13I don't know at what level.
00:15Because obviously he's done the interview, which I think he'll regret further down the line.
00:19But that told me that there was an issue there.
00:23I think also, even going back before that, I think Liverpool as a club probably only wanted to give Mo
00:29Salah one year.
00:30Rather than the two, because he had such an outstanding season and he was relentless and his numbers were great.
00:36They have given me two years.
00:39But for me, I only really ever seen it as another one year at that level.
00:43We've all played in them years and stuff.
00:46I just think for everyone, it's in everyone's interests for it to end, but also end on Mo Salah's terms.
00:52So I spoke to him around that interview at the time.
00:56And sort of said to him, look, don't do what you've done.
01:00You spoke to Mo Salah direct?
01:01Go under a cloud.
01:02Yeah, I spoke to him direct, yeah.
01:04But it gave me the opportunity to say to him, look, you've been here for eight, nine years.
01:08You've been a king here.
01:09You've got this legacy and stuff.
01:13Just go on your terms the right way.
01:17How was he when you say that?
01:19Still a little bit emotional from the incident.
01:22He was sub and he was in and out of the team at the time.
01:24He was upset.
01:27I just thought it would have been a shame if he left in January and he just left.
