00:00John Otway hunts wolves for an oil company in Alaska.
00:04He protects men who drill in the frozen wasteland.
00:07But tonight, he puts a rifle to his mouth.
00:09He is ready to end it.
00:11His wife left him.
00:12The isolation broke something inside.
00:15He pulls the trigger.
00:16Nothing happens.
00:17The next day, he boards a plane with the drilling crew.
00:19They are flying back to Anchorage.
00:21Most of them are asleep before take-off.
00:23Otway stares out the window into the black sky.
00:26Then the turbulence starts.
00:27At first, it is just a bump, then another.
00:29Then the plane drops like a stone.
00:31Oxygen masks fall from the ceiling.
00:33Men scream as the fuselage shakes apart.
00:35The lights flicker and die.
00:37Otway grips his seat as the world goes vertical.
00:40Baggage explodes from OAD bins.
00:42A man is torn from his seat and slammed into the ceiling.
00:45Blood sprays across the windows.
00:47The engines are screaming.
00:49Metal shrieks as the wings begin to tear away.
00:51Otway closes his eyes.
00:53He thinks of her face.
00:55The plane hits the trees at 300 miles per hour.
00:57The tail section rips off completely.
01:00Fire erupts through the cabin.
01:02Seats are torn from their boards.
01:04Bodies are thrown into the snow.
01:05The fuselage guard wheels through the forest, shedding parts with every impact.
01:10Trees snap like toothpicks.
01:12The cockpit separates and tumbles into a ravine.
01:15Then silence.
01:16Otway wakes in the wreckage.
01:18Snow is falling through the torn roof.
01:20He is still strapped to his seat.
01:22Around him, men are screaming.
01:23Some are burning.
01:25Otway unbuckles and crawls through the debris.
01:27He finds seven men alive.
01:29The rest are scattered in pieces across a quarter mile of frozen forest.
01:33Bare in the middle of nowhere.
01:35That first night, they build a fire from the wreckage.
01:37They hurl close, shivering despite the flames.
01:39Then they hear it.
01:40A low growl from the darkness beyond the firelight.
01:43Then another.
01:44Then a dozen more.
01:45Audrey knows that sound.
01:47They are in wolf territory.
01:48Not just any wolves.
01:50Grey wolves.
01:50The largest and most aggressive predators in North America.
01:54One man wanders too far from the fire to urinate.
01:57He does not come back.
01:58They hear him scream.
02:00It lasts five seconds.
02:01Then, wet tearing sounds.
02:03Then nothing.
02:04Audrey grabs a flare and runs into the dark.
02:06He finds the man on his back in the snow.
02:08His throat is gone.
02:09His eyes are still open.
02:11A massive wolf stands over the body.
02:13Blood dripping from his jaws.
02:15It does not run.
02:16It stares at Otway.
02:17Then it howls.
02:18The pack answers from all sides.
02:21Otway fires the flare into the sky.
02:23The wolves vanish into the trees.
02:26But they do not leave.
02:27They are ridding.
02:28They are hunting.
02:29The survivors decide to move at forest light.
02:32Staying at the crash site is suicide.
02:34They make weapons from luggage and duct tape.
02:37Knives taped to sticks.
02:39Broken bottles lash through aluminum poles.
02:41Primitive and desperate.
02:42They walk for hours through waist-deep snow.
02:45The cold is so severe that it burns their lungs.
02:47One man has a broken leg.
02:49He cannot keep up.
02:50He begs them to wait.
02:52They slow down.
02:53But the wolves do not.
02:54They take him in broad daylight.
02:56He is dragged screaming into the trees.
02:58The men try to help.
02:59But the pack is too fast.
03:02By the time they reach him, there is nothing left to save.
03:05Another man falls through the ice while crossing a frozen river.
03:08The current pulls him under.
03:09They try to grab him.
03:10His hand slips from Otway's grip.
03:12He vanishes beneath the surface.
03:14They never see him again.
03:16Now there are four.
03:17They are starving.
03:18They are freezing.
03:19They are freezing.
03:20They are being hunted.
03:21One man gives up.
03:22He sits down in the snow.
03:24He refuses to move.
03:25He says he wants to rest.
03:27Otway knows what that means.
03:29He tries to pull him to his feet.
03:30The man pushes him away.
03:32He looks at Otway with empty eyes.
03:34He says he is tired.
03:36Otway leaves him there.
03:37They all do.
03:38They hear the wolves arrive ten minutes later.
03:40Then there are three.
03:41They climb a ridge and find a forest of towering pines.
03:45They decide to use the trees.
03:47They would tie themselves to the high branches and sleep above the wolves.
03:51It almost works.
03:52One man's knot comes loose in the night.
03:54He falls forty feet.
03:56His neck snaps on impact.
03:58The wolves are on him before his body stops twitching.
04:01Two men left.
04:02The other man steps wrong at a cliff edge.
04:04The snow gives way.
04:06He slides down the slope grasping at frozen roots.
04:08Otway lunges for him.
04:10Misses.
04:11The man falls into a canyon.
04:12His body disappears into the white below.
04:15Otway is alone.
04:16He walks until his legs give out.
04:17He collapses in the snow.
04:19He pulled out his wallet.
04:20Inside is a photograph of his wife.
04:22Her face is fading.
04:24He cannot remember her voice anymore.
04:26He thinks of the poem his father wrote.
04:28Once more into the flay.
04:30Into the last good fight I'll ever know.
04:32Live and die on this day.
04:34He looks up.
04:35Around him are bones.
04:36Dear skeletons.
04:37Ribcage is half buried in snow.
04:39He realizes where he is.
04:41The wolf then.
04:42They have been driving him here all along.
04:44The alpha walks out from the trees.
04:46It is the size of a bear.
04:47Its eyes are yellow and ancient.
04:49It does not growl.
04:51It does not need to.
04:53Otway stands.
04:54He tapes broken mini bottles to his knuckles.
04:57He lashes a knife to his other hand.
04:59He looks at the wolf.
05:00He whispers the poem one last time.
05:03Then he charges.
05:04The wolf does not run.
05:06Then he charges.
