00:02They are 28-13 in the last 41 games.
00:05That's half a season.
00:06That would be a 56-win pace.
00:09As the Nets win the tip, we're underway.
00:12Kevin Cutler, Sheree Mitchell, CJ Washington, the officials here in Brooklyn.
00:17As the Nets have it, Traore had it, you know, just lost it.
00:22Out of bounds, unforced error 14 seconds into the game.
00:25And this isn't a Hornets team that necessarily puts a ton of pressure on the ball
00:29or trying to turn you over where they're capitalizing on,
00:32but they've got players that's got length.
00:33An example there, you've got to be very mindful with the ball.
00:38This is the Melo ball.
00:39Be mindful of the ball.
00:41All of it.
00:42Yeah.
00:44I feel like there's a lot of puns that could be laid out for you tonight.
00:48Ball, third of the NBA, and threes made.
00:50Here's Miller for a three, and it's good.
00:52Brandon Miller in his third year, former second-round, second-picked overall
00:56out of Alabama gets things started.
00:58He's been shooting it really well, and that's a huge part of what the Hornets try and do.
01:02They take a lot.
01:02They make a lot, and a big part of that is the efficiency.
01:06Here's Traore.
01:10Hornets the number one net rating since January 1st.
01:14Clowney working inside with a leader.
01:17Deflected back.
01:17Here comes Ball.
01:20Second behind Del Curry from the franchise's all-time three-pointer.
01:24He lifts, and he throws up an air ball as I say that.
01:28Well, that was a very good pump fake.
01:30I was impressed.
01:32You get on it.
01:32I, well, because Clowney's coming for the flyby.
01:35I was impressed.
01:35I was like, hey, you got to have your legs underneath you to be able to put that shot up
01:38again,
01:39and maybe he didn't have a lot of those legs underneath him on that after the pump.
01:43Traore with the speed to the rim, and the Nats are on the board.
01:47Now Conniple the other way.
01:49Conniple leads the NBA in threes made as a rookie, shattering the NBA rookie record.
01:55Bridges in the corner can hit.
01:56Rebounded by Drake Powell for Brooklyn.
01:59Drake made his first four threes on Sunday.
02:02Give it up to Zyre Williams.
02:04I was out of the rotation on Sunday, but back in.
02:07He has been on a tear offensively.
02:09Extraordinary.
02:10Flaxie going to the rim.
02:12Staying with it.
02:13They're going to wave it off.
02:14He traveled.
02:15He, the ball came out of his hands, and then he got it back.
02:19And that's a traveling violation.
02:20We're out hitting the rim.
02:21Yeah, and trying to stay with the play, you understand the technical part of that.
02:27But overall, for that play, that's an example of Zyre Williams,
02:30and you mentioned his offense.
02:31It's not just that he's been scoring or making shots at a high level.
02:34He's been playmaking as well.
02:35He's been in the floor in a really special way.
02:40Conniple.
02:42Missing rebound.
02:43Loose grab by Clowney.
02:47Noah on the drive.
02:49Euros and scores.
02:51Noah Clowney at 15 and 20 minutes against Sacramento on Sunday.
02:57Let's take the lead.
03:01Miller attacking.
03:03Former SEC player of the year.
03:05Puts it up at end.
03:06Talk about a tough finish.
03:08Flaxen doing everything to cloak over him.
03:10And that's a long stretch of an arm for Miller to finish through the contact.
03:17For Oren.
03:18Off to see him.
03:19Out it goes.
03:20Williams missing on a three.
03:22Ball with a rebound.
03:23The best rebounding teams in the NBA is Charlotte.
03:28They'll get second chance points and they'll prevent second chance points.
03:32There's ball up top for three.
03:35A little cold, though, starting from behind the arc.
03:38One of the best three-point shooting teams in the league.
03:40One for five.
03:41Here's Williams.
03:42Throwing at the rim.
03:43Overshot Claxton.
03:46Can it work?
03:48One year he's having kids all the way to the rim.
03:50The number four pick of the draft at a Duke.
03:53Getting wherever he wants.
03:54A guy who has moved up in the rookie of the year rankings.
03:57As Charlotte on top, 7-4.
04:04Good job.
04:05Certainly a former player in Lehigh.
04:08I should say a former player at Bucknell.
04:17Right during that timeout, I saw Brandon Miller came over and put an ear in front of us.
04:26I mean, good thing you didn't put that in front of me.
04:29I don't know.
04:30He maybe wasn't going to get that back.
04:31Maybe one of the dance team lost that.
04:33I imagine it's real.
04:37Powell.
04:38Blocked by Knippel.
04:40Scooped up by Miller.
04:42Ball with it now for the Hornets.
04:48Miller whips it inside.
04:49The Abate by Bridges.
04:51Knippel.
04:51Look at the ball movement.
04:53Ball for three, and it's good.
04:56That was a beautiful possession for Sharp.
04:58Hey, gorgeous.
04:59It continues to shift and rotate that defense all over the floor.
05:04Powell with three.
05:09Charlotte, a 10-4 lead.
05:12We get a whistle here.
05:13Traore got tangled up with the Abate.
05:16Man, it doesn't get much prettier than this.
05:18I mean, just continue to watch the rotations and how they're hitting everywhere on the floor.
05:22Keep moving around, make the extra final pass for a clean look for LaMelo Ball.
05:29But that is a beauty of possession.
05:31And the tough part is they've got such good spacing, and they've got three-point shooters on the floor.
05:35So you've got to make sure that you're close, not tied to everyone.
05:387-0 run here for Charlotte.
05:44Ball.
05:45De'Apate.
05:46Miller.
05:48And whipping it around.
05:49Knippel finds Ball for another three.
05:53The rebound finally to Traore.
05:55What Brooklyn has done a nice job, though, of is boxing out and making sure that they're getting those rebounds.
06:02Clowney off the Traore pass.
06:04No good.
06:05Rebound him on the run.
06:05Here comes the ball.
06:07Knippel in transition.
06:09Khan.
06:09Blocked by Clowney.
06:11The Abate's got it.
06:13Ball in the corner.
06:14Tough angle.
06:15Got it to go.
06:18And Charlotte, now three of eight for behind the arcs.
06:21The ball is popping, and that's what makes the Hornets and what has made them so special,
06:26especially lately on offense, because they are making really quick decisions if they're not open.
06:32Number one net rating in the NBA since January 1st.
06:36Powell of three is off the back iron.
06:38Knippel runs it down.
06:41Charlotte number one is three percentage during that time.
06:44Three-point field goals made, second-chance points.
06:47Here's Miller hitting a three, and Charlotte starting to pull away early.
06:51They're on a 13-0 run.
06:55Brandon Miller having a great year, having just over 20 points a game, shooting 39% from three.
07:02Reached in there on Clowney.
07:05A couple of injury-plagued seasons for Miller, but he's played 58 games this year.
07:12And along with Knippel, two young players fall out there that they can build around.
07:19Difference makers and the understanding of the formula they want to play with.
07:24And even two, just looking at the numbers, they don't play fast in terms of the numbers of pace.
07:29You see how quickly, though, they get into their offense.
07:32Clowney gives it up to the corner.
07:35Clowney's already missing on a three.
07:37That's a miss all six of their three-point attempts.
07:42Ball.
07:43Step back, give it up.
07:44Knippel.
07:46Diabate.
07:48Ball.
07:49Thought about a deep three.
07:51Diabate in the hump in the middle and he traveled.
07:56Yeah, and he brings a ton of energy.
08:00He's got a lot of activities.
08:01A big reason why, in many cases, they have been so good in second-chance points.
08:05But that's some of the question marks of this Hornets team.
08:09What happens on the inside?
08:10What do they do with their bigs?
08:11They had multiple guys coming into this season that just showcased really different skill sets.
08:17But overall, Diabate has been a guy who's proven to be helpful for them.
08:21Yeah, a bit undersized at that position.
08:23Then they can go to a guy like Ryan Kalkbrenner at 7-1, the rookie at a Creighton.
08:28Good shot locker wrist protector.
08:31Here's Clowney at deep four.
08:34And that's 0-6 from behind the arc.
08:39And made just two of their first 11 shots.
08:45Cian James is going to check in now for Charlotte.
08:48The Nets have gone to Minot, along with Seraf.
08:53With Williams-Clowney and Claxton on the floor.
08:59A low ball, bring it up.
09:0111th in the NBA, an assist for a game.
09:05Bridges.
09:07Diabate.
09:11Hitting the ground hard there is Bridges.
09:15And a foul called against Brooklyn's Nick Claxton.
09:21See, look at this.
09:22Bridges ready to just crank this.
09:26That's a tough call.
09:28He got blocked by the rim.
09:29He did.
09:31The right arm, I mean, Claxton didn't get him up high at all.
09:35The only thing you could look at for a foul there would be a little bit of the right hand
09:40or right forearm of Claxton on the side of the body of Bridges.
09:44But you can understand the frustration.
09:46I think this has just continued to build.
09:48But it seemed like marginal contact on a play in a circumstance like that.
09:53And to your point, Bridges just didn't really get up enough to throw it down on that one.
09:59And it seemed less about the contact coming from Claxton.
10:03Bridges played 70 games this year.
10:05Makes that free throw.
10:06Having just over 17 games.
10:09Hats haven't scored in over four minutes.
10:11They've missed their last eight field goal attempts.
10:16Cheney Johnson in the game now for Brooklyn.
10:19Foul here.
10:20Going to go against, I don't know, three seconds.
10:41That was a foul on Brandon Miller.
10:44That's the second foul on Miller.
10:47Well, anyway, Jeff State, just, just, let's wrap it up.
10:50What a problem.
10:51Oh, we'll do the, do the fancy clean up a little later on.
10:56But let's just get you cleaned up to get you back in the game.
11:04So, Sire Williams will be a side of the bounce here for Brooklyn.
11:07That's just four points.
11:10We've played more than half of this first quarter.
11:13And the tough part has been the three-point line.
11:15O of six from beyond the arc.
11:17But even some of their looks inside just not falling.
11:19We'll talk about this morning team.
11:23There's a good defensive unit in the Charles League.
11:28As Siroc will back it up top.
11:30Williams is cut off by James Netran at a time.
11:33And one, in that possession, there needs to be better awareness from Brooklyn.
11:37But you're even just, they've got guys that just stay in front.
11:40They stay in front of the ball.
11:41They bother you enough.
11:42They understand their quickness and their length of where they need to get to.
11:45So, they're not attacking you necessarily with a bunch of blitzes or oftentimes just different coverages or scheme.
11:51But they just, they force you to have to slow things down and keep it stagnated.
11:56Kobe White in the game now.
11:58You see him.
11:59Required from the Bulls this year.
12:01Been playing really well in this time here with the harness.
12:04Great pass.
12:06Three by Bridges.
12:07Way off.
12:08Rebounded by Clowney.
12:10Kobe White in North Carolina.
12:12God played at UNC.
12:14Yep.
12:14So, at home in Charlotte.
12:16Clowney.
12:18Surabh.
12:21Surabh's got it another time here.
12:23Second chance three.
12:24And it's good.
12:25The first three of the game for Brooklyn.
12:28Snaps there.
12:29Shutout they had going on here.
12:31And it's 18-7 Charlotte.
12:34That's hadn't scored in almost five minutes.
12:37Now Bridges.
12:39Mismatched.
12:40And took advantage.
12:44Six, seven, 225 pounds of power right there.
12:47And that was just a really patient look.
12:49Realized he could shoot over the top.
12:52Now you're splitting the benders.
12:54Getting to the rim.
12:54Zaire Williams.
12:57Last time we saw him play in Los Angeles.
12:59Had 16 points in the game on Friday.
13:02Speaking of.
13:03And over the course you mentioned.
13:04Last 12 games.
13:05What he's been doing from three as well.
13:07Allows him to get downhill with Maurice.
13:09Miller quick release.
13:11Connects on a three.
13:12He is three for three from behind the arc.
13:14He's got a team league.
13:1511 points.
13:17On the other end.
13:18That last touch to Yabate.
13:20That's going to get Etienne and Malachi Smith into the game.
13:25And Ben Saroff doesn't get this one to go.
13:28But the net staying with it.
13:29Clowney tipped it.
13:30Yeah.
13:31Opportunity for another shot.
13:33Those always seem to give you a little better look.
13:37Almost like a pass out from practice.
13:40And then Zaire Williams.
13:41Hard on the attack.
13:42He gets in the basket.
13:43That's what you'd like to see.
13:44More get downhill to hopefully loosen some things up.
13:46John to the three in the nets after missing their first shot behind the arc to make two in a
13:51row.
13:56Kobe White.
13:58With three-point shooter.
14:01Defense by Malachi Smith.
14:04Miller.
14:06Heavy wrapping around that left shoulder.
14:10Not affecting his shooting.
14:12But that time he's fouled by Cheney Johnson.
14:17And those are the challenging parts of it.
14:19Cheney Johnson shaking his head.
14:20He knows it.
14:21But Brandon Miller has been elected from the three-point line here early on.
14:25That's a big part of what has made his offensive game special.
14:29So you're trying to not give him any airspace.
14:31But in doing so, you want to keep them off the line as well.
14:36And another thing that Charlotte's defense does, a very good job at.
14:40They don't put you on the line very often.
14:42They lead the league in opponents' free-throw attempts.
14:47So back to their defensive principles.
14:49A lot of it is just making sure they're not gambling, not risking too much,
14:53and forcing you to make your own miscues.
14:56Miller getting three free-throw attempts.
14:58He made a three-pointer earlier, extended his streak to 53 straight games with a made three.
15:05He's tied with Donovan Mitchell for the longest streak in the NBA this season.
15:10He hits that third free-throw.
15:12Charlotte with a 14-point lead.
15:1414 for Brandon Miller.
15:19Everybody's happy.
15:20He's going to get a long stroll out of the floor there.
15:23I thought he was going to call a timeout.
15:26Here's Johnson.
15:27At the rim.
15:28Ready, Kalt Brenner.
15:29We talked about the 7-1 culprit of being a rim protector.
15:33It was a savvy finish, though.
15:35Yeah.
15:35That's Jadie Johnson going right at the big man.
15:39Bobby White.
15:41Took it off his foot.
15:43Malachi Smith in transition to Surratt.
15:46Malachi will slow it up.
15:49Surratt going to attack.
15:51Pass deflected.
15:53Gathered by Smith.
15:54Tend to shoot.
15:55Mine up.
15:57Got Grant Williams in the gym.
16:00Surratt missing a three.
16:01Rebounded by Charlotte.
16:03Grant Williams just checking into the game.
16:06In the paint.
16:07James back it out.
16:08Lighting through.
16:10Hawkmen are holding Cheney Johnson,
16:12or was it vice versa?
16:13Could be a foul on Cheney Johnson.
16:16Well, Cheney Johnson's been doing some work,
16:18especially on the offensive end,
16:19showcasing his versatility.
16:21Steps in, knocks down a three-point shot,
16:23and then he's attacking downhill.
16:26Look at this craftiness and creativity
16:28to get that off.
16:34Let's send it over to the third member
16:35of our broadcast team.
16:37The one and only Megan Triplett, Megan.
16:39Hey, Chris.
16:40Tyson Etienne has been a consistent spark
16:43coming off the bench for this Brooklyn Etienne.
16:45He has made at least one three-pointer
16:47in ten straight games.
16:48And Jordy Fernandez has said,
16:50not only does he have been a consistency guy
16:52on the court, but he brings that same energy
16:55whether he's in the locker room
16:56or in practice with the Long Island Nets
16:58or with the Brooklyn Nets.
17:00He's the same guy.
17:01I asked Noah Clowney about Tyson.
17:02He told me that he has phenomenal energy
17:04that is second to none.
17:05He is the first player in the gym
17:07and the last one to lead.
17:09In practice, Tyson is that guy,
17:11the teammate, that's always making sure
17:13that every single guy stay energized.
17:15And that's also really important for this group.
17:18I got a chance to talk to Tyson.
17:19And that's just what fuels him.
17:21He told me that it's all about the love
17:22and respect he has for the game
17:23and all the different things
17:25that it privileges him to do.
17:26He said every time he's on the court,
17:28he's just pouring back into the game,
17:30pouring back into his teammates
17:31because he believes everyone has something great.
17:34And sometimes it just takes one person
17:35encouraging you.
17:36And that's also what his teammates
17:38have done for him.
17:39He told me that when he put up his shot,
17:40he said he sees Nick Flaggson standing up,
17:42cheering him on, holding up the three to his head.
17:44And that's the energy Tyson looks to reciprocate
17:46to create a healthy locker room.
17:48And that's important for any team.
17:50Well, thank you, Megan.
17:52And that's how you make it
17:53when you're six feet tall in the NBA.
17:55You have to have something special about you.
17:58And that's his special sauce.
18:00He changes the temperature when he's in a room.
18:03I don't care if he's on the floor,
18:04a locker room, anywhere you are at.
18:06We appreciate it.
18:08Anytime he's around,
18:09you feel that joy, that spirit.
18:10You know, his teammates do as well.
18:12And out of Englewood, New Jersey, as well.
18:14He's a local guy.
18:15As you see, Grant Williams make that shot.
18:18Tyson Etienne was a Dwight Englewood High School
18:21that went to Long Island Lutheran.
18:25You know who his godfather is, Tyson Etienne?
18:30Marcus Camby.
18:31I did not know that.
18:33Missing on a three.
18:39That's basketball in the family.
18:41It is.
18:42And his mom does makeup on, like, movie shoots.
18:48Really?
18:49Maybe you can get a deal with her.
18:51Come in.
18:52Come and help me and my sister Megan out.
18:54Yeah.
18:55Kobe White.
18:57I'll hit the bucket.
18:58Charlotte with an 18-point lead.
18:59I'll speak to myself.
19:00I can use it.
19:01Megan doesn't need to help.
19:03Oh, you're both being so humble.
19:06Here's Cheney Johnson.
19:08Rebounded by Sion James.
19:11At a Sugar Hill, Georgia.
19:14This sounds good.
19:16Here he is.
19:16The private Sugar Hill.
19:19Offbrenner kept it alive.
19:20Grant Williams, the veteran finds right for three.
19:23And rebounded by Minot.
19:25His shots aren't going through, but that's where, too,
19:27the Hornets come up with a lot of offensive rebound
19:29just because of the long three-pointer.
19:31He looks, they often take.
19:34A touch there from Minot.
19:39Minot coming off of a big game.
19:4413 games of Brooklyn, 10 points a game this year.
19:49That's coming over from Boston.
19:53It's a big game you're talking about against the Lakers.
19:55Sorry, that's the opposite.
19:57I was like, last time I saw it.
19:59Thank you.
20:00And it's good for Grant Williams in the right corner,
20:03and the Hornets are 6 of 15 from behind the arc.
20:06That's 40%.
20:07Final seconds of the first quarter.
20:11Alakai Smith.
20:13Sarraf tangled up with Kobe White.
20:15A foul on White, which is .8 on the first quarter clock.
20:18And for the Mets, you just keep kind of chipping away at this one.
20:20You like to see the attack by Ben Sarraf.
20:22And I know three-pointers early on are not falling for Brooklyn,
20:27but to be able to attack the basket, try and get some easy ones,
20:30get to the free-throw line, all those things become important here
20:33looking at this deficit.
20:39Sarraf with the free-throw.
20:44You see over his last 10 games, good numbers.
20:49Remember, the Hornets played the Nets on opening night in October.
20:53Sarraf was in the starting lineup.
20:55And Jodi Kanan has talked about it with us before the game.
20:58As Sarraf makes that free-throw.
21:00How much did the rookie players have changed since that first night in Charlotte?
21:05The first quarter comes to an end.
21:08It's hard to see it now, but trying to get some clarity on these young seeds.
21:13Tennessee State.
21:13The Lions, I believe.
21:16Tigers.
21:18Tigers.
21:19Tigers.
21:19Tigers.
21:20Tigers.
21:20I knew it was a cat.
21:21We got the Tigers.
21:22And we just saw the sorority stepping up.
21:25Stepping and strolling.
21:26Why weren't you stepping?
21:27You know what?
21:28They didn't want me to do too many different jobs tonight.
21:31But, you know, shout-out to the Lions of Alpha Cup to Alpha Sword.
21:33We wouldn't get it.
21:34We wouldn't do some other things.
21:36We didn't see you step.
21:38Megan didn't want to show anybody off.
21:40There you go, Craig.
21:40That may be true.
21:41Although, your jacket, you came in with this look afresh.
21:45Oh, my God.
21:45I don't know why you took it off for television.
21:48It's going back on.
21:49Okay.
21:49Hold it up right now.
21:50We can see it.
21:51There you go.
21:52See, Megan, the top left.
21:53Now, you're out of screen.
21:54So, you can put it on.
21:55Let you know what a moment.
21:55Here's Clowney.
21:57Bump it with Grant Williams.
21:58Got Hawk Brenner to bite and drew a foul.
22:02Clowney's going to go to the Lions.
22:03The foul's on Grant Williams.
22:05There it is.
22:06I've got to put it on.
22:06You're right.
22:07It needs to be.
22:09It's TV time.
22:09Oh, yeah.
22:11We got TSU on this.
22:13That looks clean.
22:14The ladies in Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Psi.
22:16I mean, if you had a jacket like that, I'd never take it off.
22:18No.
22:19How often do you get back?
22:21I go back for homecoming.
22:22Homecoming's a thing.
22:23And I know that tonight is a homecoming celebration for HBCUs,
22:27but this is just a snippet of what homecoming means.
22:30If you have not gotten to an HBCU homecoming, you have to go.
22:33And I understand you had a lot of family went to Howard.
22:36Howard's band is going to be performing here at halftime.
22:39I don't know.
22:39This is like a family reunion, it feels like, for me right now.
22:42This is the Megan Triplett game, I feel like.
22:45That's what I'm calling it.
22:46We're in.
22:47We're in.
22:50What would the giveaway be for a Megan Triplett night?
22:53Oh, Chris, you know this one.
22:55French fries.
22:55There you go.
22:58Easy.
22:59That goes without saying.
23:00Yeah.
23:01Which I have to say, Barclays has probably, I can't give it the,
23:05one of the best French fries in the arena that I've gone to,
23:08the French fries.
23:08That's high praise coming from me.
23:10That is high praise.
23:12Catcher on the Nets clock going through her blind ranking of types of French fries.
23:17You guys cut out my explanations of why I chose what I chose, but.
23:22I think the amazing Brooklyn Nets content team realized that it may be,
23:27it may be the attention span that you had for the description.
23:30Not everybody else has it.
23:32It was very detailed.
23:33If you want to know, just hit me up on Instagram.
23:34I'll tell you my reason for why.
23:38We didn't want to know.
23:39We didn't want a 30-minute podcast on French fries.
23:41Megan, it's almost midnight.
23:42We actually have to go to dinner to get these French fries.
23:48Here's the ball up on the logo.
23:52And Powell with a rebound.
23:55That one was not shot.
23:58Here's Minot.
24:01Traore, Claxton, Cowell, and Williams.
24:04Minot going to work.
24:05Find it, Claxton, and he got fouled.
24:08Man, every game I watch Josh Minot, he shows me something that I maybe haven't seen yet.
24:13Well, because I think we continue to watch how he's gotten comfortable with his playmaking.
24:18And this is just a beautiful pass that he drops off to Claxton.
24:22Because the ball's coming through.
24:24I mean, everyone thinks that he may be just getting it there out to that right baseline
24:27where Zyre Williams is running along.
24:29But over the course of the last seven games, averaging nearly 16 points per game,
24:34shooting 53 from the field, 51 from the three-point line.
24:37And that type of creation and the ability to draw on the defense, read where they're moving from,
24:44he's shown a propensity to facilitate and spray it out to teammates.
24:48And all of that stuff has been fun to watch since he's come here.
24:52Claxton makes a pair of free throws.
24:54Charlie with a 15-point lead.
24:58The team has missed a free throw.
25:01Off-brander blocked by Minot.
25:02But Kniphol stays with it.
25:04And man, Charles Lee just talked about Kniphol before the game,
25:08how he impacts winning as a young player.
25:12As the Nets get a bucket there from a young player, Nolan Traore.
25:18Traore's got a great understanding of one just even off of misses to push it quick.
25:23Josh Green in the game.
25:25Kniphol.
25:28Why not staying with him?
25:30Grant Williams can't get the role.
25:34He'll actually take it off.
25:39Minot quick trigger.
25:41Goal and a foul!
25:43It's on Kniphol.
25:45Minot and one from three.
25:50Josh Minot has had a consistency in pouring it in from beyond the arc.
25:54You see it right here.
25:55Nice shot by Nick Claxton getting set to step up.
25:57And there's just enough contact coming over from Kniphol.
26:03And you saw no hesitation.
26:05That was something that, you know, Jordy Panetta has talked about some of his young players.
26:09They hesitate a little bit.
26:10And that's why they are not consistent from three.
26:12Might not do exactly what he was doing coming off that screen.
26:15Yeah, and I think, too, just the more you get these opportunities of extended runs,
26:20the green light that players have when they are open to be able to take those three-point shots
26:24is a big part of how the Nets want to play.
26:26You can kind of say the same thing about the Hornets.
26:28And that's been their offensive success is that freedom from three.
26:33Ball to step back.
26:35Rebound by Powell.
26:36Let's look at an add to a 10-2 run here.
26:41Minot.
26:43Powell.
26:45Physical play up top is Josh Green.
26:49Along with Diabate getting tangled with Claxton.
26:52A foul on Diabate.
26:56So, Charlotte team that does a good job defending without fouling.
27:01They allow the fewest free throw attempts per game in the NBA.
27:04That's a staple of Charles Lee, his defense.
27:09Talking with Sheree Mitchell right there, by the way.
27:12He's heard it.
27:13Remember, she's got to get the camera.
27:15This is Trey O'Reilly walking inside.
27:17Denied there.
27:18Give us some Sheree back on the court.
27:21Question.
27:21What about that?
27:23Green.
27:29Ball.
27:30Claxton relishes these opportunities defensively.
27:34Williams cooked it loose.
27:36Choclock wounding down.
27:37It's a better pattern.
27:38It's going to be Brooklyn ball.
27:40So, a great just two-man defense there where Claxton staying in front,
27:45able to use the quickness of his feet, his range,
27:47and then Zire Williams with the heads-up dig in
27:49to rip the basketball as it then ends up going off of Charlotte.
27:55Zire, nine total steals his last two games he's played.
27:58He's been great.
27:59He's been so great.
28:01Put it off the leg with Green.
28:03He'll stay with Brooklyn.
28:08Kobe White get a check back in for the Hornets, replacing Green.
28:18And to cut this lead, it was 19 down to 11.
28:23Traorio inbound.
28:24Nine out.
28:28Points at deep three.
28:29Caniple with a rebound.
28:32That's your three of 14 for behind the arc.
28:36Yabate.
28:36Nice catch tonight at the rim by Zire Williams.
28:39Yabate, though, stays with it.
28:41And he puts it in.
28:42So those are the tough ones.
28:43We've seen a couple examples of the Nets making initial stops.
28:46There's four black jerseys around the basket off that play.
28:49It's got to be a little bit more awareness and engagement
28:52to be able to close out that possession.
28:55Powell, three.
28:57The amount of idea, Pate.
29:01Powell made his first four shots on Sunday.
29:03He's missed his first three here tonight.
29:05Caniple.
29:06Tough shot in the lane.
29:07Won't fall.
29:08Good, strong traffic rebound by Claxton.
29:10Feet ahead to Williams.
29:13Zire.
29:13Into a crowd.
29:15Tough floater.
29:15Wrigged out.
29:18Caniple pushing it.
29:20Grant Williams.
29:22Traorio with a rebound.
29:23Taken away by Caniple.
29:25Soaring on Powell.
29:27And ticked in by Diabate.
29:29So to Charles Lou's point about just Caniple being a game-winning player,
29:34it's an example of one of many players.
29:36Traorio answering back quickly on the other end.
29:40That's a good, quick response.
29:42Again, Troy, we're at the misses.
29:43He loves her off and makes.
29:45He loves those quick push.
29:46But overall for Brooklyn, this finishing off these defensive possessions
29:51got to be a little better.
29:52Here's Zire Williams knocking it away.
29:54We talked about his prowess on the defensive end.
29:56Bynes.
29:57Minot can't hit a three.
29:59Back tap.
29:59That's another possession.
30:01Traorio's open.
30:02Minot's going to take it.
30:04Minot to the rim.
30:06Soaring and kissing.
30:07And the Nets once again pulled within 11 of the timeout called by Charlotte.
30:12A really authoritative offensive.
30:14I know that the show that we prepared is going to be suitable for New York,
30:18and they're going to love it.
30:19Now, I went to Tennessee State University, so I know about the aristocrat of bands,
30:23but I have family that went to Howard.
30:25For those who do not know about Showtime, what do they need to know about Showtime marching band
30:30and what makes this group so special?
30:32Our energy, our excitement, and what we bring to all of our shows,
30:36whether it's a halftime show or whether it's a performance for whomever,
30:40Dignitaries, Showtime is the band to beat, right?
30:43And I know all about your band program and what you guys come from,
30:47and I respect the aristocrats definitely,
30:49and that you guys have a large legacy of a great marching band.
30:53But Howard University will be that band in the future for sure.
30:56It's going to be a fun night, so make sure you are tuned in.
31:00Howard is performing tonight.
31:01They have traveled all across the country,
31:04and they're here tonight to put in a special performance for our Brooklyn Nets fans.
31:09Well, thank you, Megan.
31:10The Bison.
31:11I got, I was.
31:12You had the Bison in the tournament.
31:13Yeah, they played Michigan tough.
31:16I had them in their opening round game, the NCAA tournament,
31:19and they were impressive.
31:21I'll tell you what, Kenneth Blakeney, their head coach,
31:25really opened some eyes.
31:27The way his players talk about him
31:31was really special.
31:32It was beyond, and as you know,
31:34we have the great fortune when we're doing those games.
31:37Sit down, watch a practice, sit down with, you know,
31:39Kenny and just players,
31:40and hear them, and you can see how,
31:42one, he resonates with them, too,
31:44the respect he has for them,
31:46and they have for him,
31:47and it translated into a lot of success on the floor,
31:51and how they came out, showed out,
31:54and were able to make it to the NCAA tournament,
31:56which was a big deal.
31:57They won that first four games.
31:59Yeah.
32:00Well, if there was an NCAA tournament for fans,
32:02they would be a one-seater.
32:04Yeah.
32:04They'll be performing here at Barkley Center.
32:07Locked in.
32:08Well, the Nets, who trailed by as much as 19,
32:12have gotten as close as 11 here in the second quarter.
32:1713-point Charlotte lead right now.
32:19They've had a good cadence of how they're getting into their offense,
32:23and even in times that Charlotte has made shots,
32:25they're still looking to push.
32:26They're getting some earlier opportunities.
32:29I think that's helped,
32:30not always just playing against this set half-court defense of Charlotte.
32:34And you've got to hope at some point that those three-point shots
32:37will start to fall through.
32:38You see Charles Lee talking about he went to Bucknell,
32:42and they had an upset in the tournament over Kansas
32:46when Charles Lee was the captain of that Bucknell team.
32:52Ooh, it's a tournament.
32:53Where were you when?
32:57Right here.
32:58When you were home.
32:59It was halftime.
32:59I had it on my computer.
33:01Oh, my.
33:01I saw the shot.
33:02Wow, we were still at halftime here.
33:09Braces working inside.
33:11I actually thought the game was open.
33:13I got a soft free throw.
33:15I thought it pretty much is over.
33:16I was doing something else.
33:17I glanced back and I see the shot go in.
33:19Oh, wild.
33:20And you're kind of going crazy.
33:22Wild.
33:23There's Minots.
33:26A couple of bounces won't go.
33:30I mean, Aaron Harris, right half.
33:33Here's Miller.
33:35Mr. Spinner's foul is going to go against Charlotte.
33:41Relatively happy, I should say.
33:45Happy Harris.
33:48Congrats to all our UConn grad friends like Aaron, former Nets PR man, Eli Pearlstein.
33:55I'm sure he was excited about that as well as UConn adds to the Final Four.
33:59Yeah.
34:00Our, uh, an old Nets employee, Dan Harris, is a, uh, his son, goes to UConn's, one of the managers
34:08for the basketball team.
34:09If we go into the Final Four in Indianapolis.
34:15Howell makes that free throw.
34:19Jersey City's early royalty.
34:25Danny taking another team to the Final Four.
34:28Yeah.
34:29Yeah.
34:30I got a lot of UConn's fans, so, you know.
34:32I don't know.
34:33You're not, you're not getting in today.
34:34You're, you're just brought it up.
34:36And you're, it's almost like you're not a fan of UConn.
34:38I know, I don't know how I feel.
34:40I'll be at the Final Four.
34:41I'm expecting more excitement.
34:43You brought it up.
34:58Here's Powell, left the ball behind, got it back, Troy Auret, kicked to the corner, Powell a three.
35:07It's good for Powell, he connects on his first shot of the game, and the next are within eight.
35:14It's been a nice job there, just working the inside out.
35:16Drake Powell coming off of an excellent game from the three-point line.
35:21Kobe White missing.
35:22Here come the Nets again.
35:26Millions, oh, what a stats, and Miller's strictly, it goes out of bounds, Miller telling him no.
35:30However, that was another gear.
35:32Those are the small things, we use the word development a lot in this season, and what
35:37that looks like for different players, and we're seeing it across the board.
35:40Nolan Traore, what does he do so well?
35:42Get in the paint, and he finds Drake Powell, he's just flaring out, drains that shot.
35:48Of course, in that win against Sacramento, he was four of six.
35:53From three, but everyone's just better understanding their roles.
35:59That move by Zaire, though.
36:00I know he was stripped, he had a little burst there in his hero at the end, and the ability
36:07to create countermeasures, and knowing where his defenses are coming from all those things
36:11you've seen, everyone kind of just have a better understanding of the pace in the games
36:16that they're leads to the defense.
36:17Well, the Nets on a 21-10 stretch here.
36:20Janie Johnson bumping inside.
36:23Look at her cutter inside here.
36:25Missed the finish.
36:31Kobe White thought he had contact and tipped in.
36:35Diabate again on a second chance.
36:37That six second chance points for Moussa Diabate for a hoarded team that leads the NBA in second
36:43chances.
36:43He's a huge part of it.
36:44You just can't let him leave a speed.
36:45You've got to make sure you find his body.
36:49You see the numbers.
36:51He stays on the ground, and there they are, yeah.
36:54Johnson against Diabate.
36:56Zaire four to shoot.
36:58He's a crossover there.
37:00It will pull up.
37:00Mid-range shot.
37:01Never reached the rim in a shot clock violation against Brooklyn.
37:07It's going to get Etienne in the game.
37:10Zaire Williams will take a seat.
37:13And it's trailed by as much as 19.
37:16Well, there's 18 points in the first half, have 21 here in the second.
37:20And despite the fact the last couple possessions in particular shots have not fallen, the process
37:24of which you're showing some optionality of where and how they're attacking, Charlotte has
37:30been the process that you're looking for.
37:38Another set of the shoot.
37:43Two to shoot.
37:44Kobe White.
37:46Off the heel.
37:47Rebounded by Minot.
37:55Minot.
37:56Missing on a three again, and it goes out of bounds.
37:59Four of 19, or the Nets are behind the arc.
38:05Charlotte's three-point percentage is plummeted to 30%.
38:08They're 60-20.
38:11See the field goal numbers this quarter.
38:15To make a three in the quarter, missed their last five.
38:21Bridges.
38:23Clowney doing a good job staying down, and then his heel hit out of bounds.
38:33Minot takes a seat.
38:34Malachi Smith coming in for Brooklyn.
38:43They're seeing that ball never hit.
38:4814 on the shot clock.
38:58Seon James inbound.
39:03Gets the ball back.
39:05Kobe White.
39:11And gets it.
39:13And scores it.
39:13And the Hornets back up by 12.
39:15He's just so strong.
39:16He's got such a big frame.
39:17And he showcased, you see a lot of his highlight jumps.
39:20But he's got good touch around the basket and footwork to get those looks off.
39:24Eight for Bridges.
39:26Cheney Johnson blocked by Diabate, but a foul.
39:30He's called a boost at Diabate.
39:32That'll be his third.
39:35Timeout.
39:36Under three to go in the second.
39:38That's contemplating.
39:39All right, what are they going to ask me?
39:42What can I, what can I bring to the table in the third quarter on the broadcast?
39:47That's what he's thinking right now.
39:50As Cheney Johnson makes that free throw.
39:55Dayron has had, I think, an eye-opening season in terms of what we may have thought about
40:03Dayron Sharks ceiling and what we now think of Dayron Sharks ceiling.
40:06I could not agree more.
40:08And we'll get into this with him.
40:10I think a lot of it, too, you look at the development, how much help the entire coaching staff
40:15and in particular Jawan Howard has had with him, with the bigs, the patience that he's
40:20shown, his ability to play make, all those things.
40:22I also think sometimes, too, when players get extended run in time, you're curious if
40:28those numbers then will translate to getting more minutes or the opportunities he had
40:33or when he was starting at times, if Nick was out and all of those things came into play.
40:39I mean, it was, it was fun to watch him.
40:41Of course, he had a combination right there.
40:45Yeah.
40:45It's really good.
40:48He had to pick up a foul, then get to deflection, and now the Nets control.
40:53Down by 10.
40:55Etienne.
41:00Etienne keeping it alive.
41:02Knipples on the ground, and the Hornets come away with it.
41:07Bridges leaves it behind.
41:09Ball right back to him.
41:11The two-man basketball right there.
41:19Hornets currently in 10th place in the East.
41:21Three and a half games out, three out.
41:23In the lost column behind sixth place, Atlanta.
41:28On the snap of two-game losing streak.
41:32Malakai Smith with a shot clock winding down.
41:36Yeah, Grant Williams on his head, but finished at the rim.
41:39A strong play, turn in the corner.
41:46Williams, one of the Celtics.
41:48Floats went off the window.
41:51Big Dallas as well.
41:57Big discrepancy at the free-throw line this game.
42:00Nets have attempted 13.
42:02Hornets attempted 7.
42:03That's something that Jordy Fernandez has been all over.
42:06In his post-game press conferences in the last few games.
42:12He's doing a much better job.
42:14He's the Hornets off the line.
42:16And another steal here, but Surratt could handle it.
42:22Malakai Smith, add him to the list of players that,
42:24when given some opportunity, is impressive.
42:26Look at him.
42:27I mean, that's a quick turn in the corner using his body, his strength.
42:30And as he feels, Williams on his hip is able to then bump off
42:35to clean enough space on the finish.
42:37Miller, tough shot.
42:39He got fouled.
42:44Brandon Miller, 16, leads all scorers in this game.
42:50Saurabh takes the brunt of it.
42:52Oh, yeah.
42:53His left elbow gets Saurabh across the face on that play.
42:57He's been fouled him with his face.
43:04Miller at the line.
43:06Neither team has missed it.
43:07Yeah, what do you say?
43:08Yeah, so this is a good way to put it.
43:10Neither team has missed a free throw.
43:13Tough whammy night.
43:18See, I didn't jinx it.
43:20See if he had missed that free throw, but he was blamed it on me.
43:24Did you say it, thinking that he may?
43:26And that was part of your intent?
43:28No.
43:29No, not at all.
43:31Simply trying to point out, it doesn't matter.
43:33Katie Johnson.
43:36He helped right there.
43:37It's a two-hand stuff in the nets.
43:40Hanging in the final minute here of the second quarter.
43:47No more ball against Etienne.
43:51Collision there and a foul.
43:53Etienne got him in the face, too.
43:56Another foul with the face.
44:00Let's take a look right here.
44:01That's a beautiful cut by Cheney Johnson.
44:04And he's just reading where the ball's going to play him
44:07as he loses him from the back side.
44:09Wide open look.
44:10Beautiful pass.
44:15The mellow ball at the line.
44:18Ninety percent free throw shooter.
44:20Let's see if I can jinx it.
44:21Ninety percent there.
44:22Nine of nine.
44:23There it is.
44:24Look at that power I have.
44:25I believe in it.
44:27I believe in it.
44:30So I use it for good.
44:32Now do I get credit for that or Mr. Whammy gets credit for that?
44:34Don't we share it?
44:36No.
44:36Like a half an assist.
44:37Mr. Whammy says it's all mine.
44:40I'm pretty sure he's not sharing any of that with you.
44:43With love.
44:46Whammy was told me before the game just started shouting out stats.
44:50He keeps stats.
44:51We feel good by ball.
44:55He leaves iron voicemails of his stats.
45:00He knows he'll see you in person.
45:04Clowny of three.
45:06Nets.
45:07Struggling from behind the arc in this game.
45:094-20.
45:14Less to the second shot.
45:16The game clock difference.
45:17Winding down the first half in Brooklyn.
45:20Charlotte has led by as much as 19.
45:23And it's come as close as 8.
45:27Bridges.
45:29Weak side.
45:30Caniple.
45:31Turkish shot and the horn won't go.
45:34In the driveway he could probably get that over.
