00:00Notice anything strange about this putt? No, it's not that Gravity decided to stop working very
00:05briefly, it was that I was using the heads-up putting strategy, where, as the name might
00:09suggest, you look at your target when you're putting and knock down at the ball. No, I've not
00:13gone completely rogue, this is all backed by science, and having watched Dr. Sasho McKenzie
00:17on a recent episode of No Laying Up discuss all its benefits, I thought I'd give it a try too.
00:23So yes, scientifically backed stuff, not just some fad, and having read up on the process,
00:28I'm all for it on paper. So, by concentrating on rolling the ball to the target rather than
00:33internal mechanics, golfers can reduce overthinking and improve their rhythm. Well, that's so say
00:38the scientists. We all know that the correct pace is vital to holding more putts, so this
00:43technique should instill better pace control. But how has it worked in practice? Well, I'll
00:47be honest, it's been a real mixed bag. My putting has got no worse, which is great, and it makes
00:52me want to continue this process, and the best part is I've found my mid- to long-range
00:57putts, at least getting past the hole, whereas more often than not, I'd leave it short and
01:00give it no chance at all. So that's been great. It does feel very strange, it's very weird,
01:05and this is the part I'm struggling with. It's weird not putting your head back down
01:09to look at the ball having looked at the line, but no doubt I'll start to feel less weird
01:13the more I do it, right? So once I get my shot strokes gained, data fired back up when
01:17I'm out playing more regularly, I'll have some data to hopefully back up my anecdotal evidence,
01:22having done this for about four rounds now. But I want to know what you think about
01:26this technique. If you're in a bit of a putting crossroads and fancy trying something new before
01:30the season starts proper, I've really enjoyed trying this and would recommend at least giving
01:34it a go to see how you get on.
