00:00Do you know this song?
00:11Well, when Shrek released "I'm a Believer," it wasn't exactly new. The song was already outdated.
00:16It was originally sung by The Monkees in 1966.
00:29But Dream Rock definitely doesn't want a retro version. They want something much more ironic, more
00:34pop and much more offbeat.
00:36They therefore asked Smash Moss to re-record the entire song with a deliberately naive and almost caricatural tone.
00:43And indeed, it works perfectly with the film.
00:45It represents a cynical, totally disillusioned character who ends up believing in love against his will.
00:49And the song explodes again and becomes inseparable from the end of Shrek.
00:54And this is one of the first modern examples where an animated film transforms an old song into a
00:58new cultural reference.
