S.S. Rajamouli is widely known as the biggest director in Indian cinema right now, but since the success of "RRR" he’s become a global sensation. Between its theatrical release, the record number of viewers who watched it with a Netflix subscription and its Oscar win, the filmmaker is going even bigger with his next movie, Varanasi. Some advice from James Cameron influenced him to go there.

When CinemaBlend had the chance to speak to Rajamouli back in November in Hyderabad, India, the director recalled linking up with the "Avatar: Fire And Ash" filmmaker while on the Oscar trail for RRR.

00:00I have seen his clips talking about RRR again and it made me happy once again.
00:05We had a long conversation on RRR and the words that I remember most is like
00:10you continue doing the films the way you do.
00:12That's one thing I remember from him.
00:15It's a great compliment.
00:17I think thank him again for that.
00:21Yeah, I'm going in my own way about getting these visuals on screen.
00:27IMAX being one of that.
00:30Once we started writing the script, as the details started emerging,
00:36we realized we need something bigger to encompass these visuals.
00:43Apart from all the existing technologies or the technologies that we used before,
00:49obviously the first thing that came to our mind was IMAX.
00:53Not this, the 1x1.9.
00:57We wanted 1x1.4, the big 3x4, large screen.
01:04Yeah, that is because, as shown in the glimpse, the worlds are huge.
01:10Let it be Antarctica, let it be Africa.
01:13On top of it, let it be the Ramayana episode from the Ramayana,
01:17where you see the giants who are 125 foot tall,
01:20to encompass all these things,
01:22to do justice for them,
01:25is be needed IMAX.
