00:13¿Qué haces con la espalda?
00:17Ha sido peor.
00:22Estaba muy preocupada por todo lo que podía ir mal.
00:28No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
01:01A short-term adversity that I have to overcome to be able to be back in my best physical condition.
01:36It doesn't really cause me too much pain.
01:38It's more like the instability of it and knowing that if I land from here or something like that, it
01:44can always come out.
01:45So it's just managing that really. Obviously I'm playing with the brace.
01:49And I think that's the thing that I'm most looking forward to, being able to play without a brace again.
01:53I probably couldn't do any more with the brace every day in training and in the games.
01:59So yeah, I think it did the job it was supposed to do, but now it's time to kind of
02:03get it fixed.
02:06So when we have a look again in the axial view, we come down through the shoulder, we see the
02:14bone is sort of missing from this lower corner here.
02:18Since I've had the surgery, obviously I'm three days post-op. It's feeling a lot better than I thought it
02:24would.
02:25The surgeon, Andy Wallace, did a great job on his team, done an amazing job at having me as comfortable
02:34as possible.
02:35Yeah, all in all a lot better than I thought it would be, so I'm pleased with how it's going
02:38so far.
02:39You know, the staff and the hospitality at the 40th clinic was unbelievable.
02:45And kind of as the day went on and it came closer, I did feel a lot better about it.
02:50And then, yeah, just being reminded that I was in the best hands possible for this kind of thing.
02:56So that made me feel a lot more comfortable with it, definitely.
03:00The start of the 22-23 season, which ended up being my last year at Dortmund, before the World Cup.
03:07And yeah, just went into a duel and landed funny on it, on my arm and straight away knew something
03:11wasn't right and it was out.
03:12And yeah, I remember them saying straight away, you know, you need to be getting an op for this really.
03:16But then, you know, it was maybe August, September, the World Cup was in December.
03:22I just couldn't risk that timeline. I wanted to know if there was any other way.
03:26And then, yeah, that was kind of the story of it, really, that we continued to get pushed off and
03:31pushed off and held off.
03:33And coming to Madrid, obviously, it was like a blank start, you know, it felt fine. I was doing really
03:39well.
03:39And then I got to that game against Real Vallecano where I've just, you know, landed on it funny.
03:44And that was, again, one where it felt worse than the normal ones, where it stayed out for a while
03:50and I couldn't get it back in myself,
03:51which I'd been able to do before the previous times and they got the physio on and it felt like
03:56an eternity before he got it back in.
03:58And that physio still tells me now, Guido, that it was actually 90 seconds that it took for them to
04:03actually be able to come on the pitch and pop it back in.
04:05But for me, it was like, it felt like five, ten minutes. It was a horrible experience.
04:10And then after that, everyone points to surgery straight away. But obviously, it's my first year at the club and
04:15I didn't want to have to disrupt the year that the team was having,
04:18that I was having to miss three months and, you know, who knows, maybe change the trajectory of that season.
04:25In hindsight, I think the best time to do it would have been after the Euros.
04:29Obviously, the season ended perfectly with Madrid and then not quite as well with England.
04:33And I didn't want that to be the last taste I had in my mouth for three months.
04:36And I think in the end, there wasn't the preparation for it that maybe I would have liked.
04:42We weren't really proactive, myself and the people at the time weren't as proactive with it.
04:48So we ended up deciding to kind of just go for another year, leaving it as it is.
04:53Started again the new season, no brace, no strapping.
04:56The second or third game, gone for a tackle and it's come out again.
04:59And then it's just like, the physio's like, no, you're going to stay in the brace for the rest of
05:03the season now.
05:03And then I think it was from that point I knew that this season, after this season,
05:08it would be without a doubt the season to get the surgery.
05:12I think the actual shoulder injury itself has a lot of effect on the rest of my body.
05:17Wearing the brace, I think, means that other parts of my body have to compensate for the lack of use
05:20that my shoulder can do.
05:22And I had a point in the season where I felt like I couldn't move because of a pain I
05:27had in my back.
05:28Got a scan and there was like a herniated disc on the side of my shoulder.
05:33And, you know, like we all kind of thought, the physios thought that that was something that had to do
05:38with maybe the nerves being blocked from,
05:40you know, the problems I was having my shoulder on that side of my body.
05:43So, yeah, not really an excuse, but I think from a medical point of view, there is probably evidence to
05:49suggest that it's taking its toll on other parts of my body.
05:53I did feel like it was things that maybe happened as a result and the physio said the same.
05:58But all in all, obviously, it meant that I could stay on the pitch instead of being out for three
06:02months.
06:03So it was kind of the small sacrifices that I had to make, really.
06:06You know, the way football's played now with the amount of games and the intensity of the game.
06:10I think the better physical condition you're in, the more everything just follows.
06:14You know, I know what I can do technically, tactically, all that kind of stuff I've proven before.
06:21But now being back to my best physically, I think will aid all that into coming into one, you know,
06:26and seeing the best of me, hopefully.
06:29Last year made me understand that I should never take winning for granted again.
06:34And this year I plan on winning again a lot more.
06:39Thank you!
06:42Cut!
06:44Well done!
06:45Check, check, huh?
