Woods 'wants to play' in Masters if body allows

Tiger Woods returned to competitive golf on Tuesday as his Jupiter Links Golf Club were defeated in the TGL Finals in Florida, but his mere appearance gave fans hope he may tee it up at next month's Masters. The 50-year-old Woods, who has undergone multiple surgeries in recent years and had not competed on the PGA Tour since missing the British Open cut in 2024, said he was pleased to be back in action at the indoor golf league, which combines elements of simulated golf with real chipping and putting. Woods, whose 15 major titles include five Green Jackets, said his goal is to compete at the Masters, which begins April 9 in Augusta. Woods co-founded the tech-infused TGL with Rory McIlroy last year, and his Jupiter Links Golf Club were well beaten by Los Angeles Golf Club 9-2 in the TGL Finals.

00:00As I said, I've been trying.
00:02It's just this body doesn't recover like it was when I was 24, 25.
00:09Doesn't mean I'm not trying.
00:10I've been trying for a while.
00:12I've had a couple bad injuries here the past year that I've had to fight through,
00:16and it's taken some time.
00:18But I keep trying.
00:19I want to play.
00:21I've loved the tournament.
00:22I've loved being there since when I was 19 years old.
00:25So it's meant a lot to me and my family over the years.
00:28And I'm going to be there either way with the loop that's going up there
00:34as well as, you know, the champion's dinner.
00:38Do you think that decision will have to come right down to the Friday before?
00:41I don't know.
00:41We'll see how it goes.
00:43You know, I'll be practicing playing at home this week
00:47and keep trying to make progress.
00:50Akshay was a hell of a teammate this year.
00:53He blended into the team seamlessly.
00:56We had a great time with all of his matches that he played.
00:59Obviously, he has a commitment with Hero.
01:02That is his title sponsor.
01:03So he had to be over there, and he's doing what he has to do.
01:07And we had to hold down the fort,
01:09and unfortunately we didn't hold down the fort.
01:12It was fine physically.
01:13It was just interesting, the shots,
01:16because usually you have more of a rhythm
01:18when you're actually playing a normal round of golf, you know, hitting shots.
01:21Here, you know, it feels like I'm getting iced a bit at times.
01:25It's just a different rhythm.
01:26It's like playing when you're playing Ryder Cup or President's Cup
01:28and you're playing foursomes.
01:29You get to some reason, some matches,
01:34you just don't hit a putt for like 10, 11 holes.
01:37And all of a sudden you've got to make a three-footer.
01:39That's kind of what it feels like here.
01:42I had a couple drives I had to hit and then a couple putts.
01:46And it was just, for me, it was different
01:49because I haven't really done this.
01:51I've been watching these guys do it.
01:52They make it look easy.
01:54I haven't done it in a while.
01:55So it was a lot of fun, though, to be a part of it.
02:30I haven't done it in a while.
