00:03Jupiter has a lot of moons between 80 and 95 of them but now experts say its four largest likely
00:09have a tumultuous history with the planet they orbit Io Europa Ganymede and Callisto are Jupiter's
00:15Galilean moons which likely formed in the planet's infancy now researchers say that the further the
00:20moon is from Jupiter the lower its density and the higher its water content seems to be something
00:25they say points to a history where Jupiter was so bright it likely vaporized the water from
00:29the closer moons also noting it was probably around 10,000 times brighter at that point than it is
00:35today as well and that could explain why Callisto a moon which is tidally locked with Jupiter only has
00:40ice on one side meanwhile Io its closest Galilean moon has less ice than any other cosmic object of
00:45its kind in the entire solar system with the researchers writing that Io could have had
00:50temperatures upwards of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit on its surface all from the Jovian radiation given
00:55off by Jupiter pretty balmy for a moon situated an incredible four hundred and sixty million miles
01:00from the Sun for reference scientists say that current ambient temperatures on Io are likely below
01:05minus two hundred degrees Fahrenheit
