00:00The simple fact that we are here together and that we talk to each other, that we listen actively to
00:05each other
00:05is a demonstration that we need more collaboration, we need more cooperation
00:10and for that we need to understand better what are the various opinions around the table.
00:20Global tensions, economic uncertainty and growing pressure on international institutions are reshaping our world.
00:28In Baku, policy makers, former heads of state and leading experts have gathered for the 13th Baku Global Forum,
00:36a platform designed to explore solutions to the most pressing global issues.
00:41We face global challenges and if we face global challenges we need global solutions
00:46and that's why this kind of forum can be inspiring moments to propose new ideas,
00:54to propose new concepts that I think can be used by leaders across the world to try to make the
01:01best possible decisions.
01:04Each year the Global Baku Forum brings together leaders, presidents, prime ministers, former leaders and presidents
01:12and decision makers from across the globe to debate challenges and to share experiences.
01:17This year's discussion centres on the future of global governance, rising geopolitical tensions
01:23and the search for new models of international cooperation.
01:27Across three days, participants discuss topics ranging from global security and energy stability
01:33to climate transition and migration.
01:36Many say these challenges are increasingly interconnected.
01:41The world of today is a world that is interconnected, a world that is interdependent,
01:47a world that requires institutions that are effective, less process and more impact,
01:54that really responds to the need of the people on the ground.
01:57The forum also reflects the growing role of regional dialogue platforms in shaping global debates.
02:07Europe needs energy from outside.
02:09There is the energy transition, of course, happening, going to more renewables,
02:14but it's not there yet.
02:16It's not possible to run a highly industrialized continent at this point in time with renewables only.
02:22So those partnerships, energy partnerships, are very critical just for the existence of Europe
02:29and the importance that Azerbaijan has, the importance that this region has, cannot be underestimated for this.
02:37Another focus of the discussions is the future of global institutions
02:41and whether they're equipped to respond to emerging challenges.
02:45Ironically, maybe, because Azerbaijan is not a coastal country, not a maritime country,
02:53the shipment of its oil and gas to different customers is by pipeline, by trucks.
03:01So not affected by the closure of the Ormuz Strait and all the challenges in the ship lanes.
03:10At least, in the midst of the province in the region, Azerbaijan is in tranquility, alert, obviously,
03:23but hopefully it remains peaceful.
03:35I think that this conference plays an important role where heads of state and government
03:40and diplomats, academicians and also civil society representatives, media representatives
03:48are coming together, having very solid discussion and trying to provide a solution.
03:53I think that their voice will be heard.
03:59While the global Baku Forum does not formally produce policy decisions,
04:05it has become a space for experts and leaders to openly debate the direction of international cooperation.
04:12The message today to respect international law, diplomacy and dialogue could not be clearer.
04:21The most important message is solidarity, solidarity with our friends in Azerbaijan,
04:26solidarity for the challenges that they are undergoing right now and solidarity for the potential for the future.
04:37Participants attending the global Baku Forum say the world is entering a period of profound transformation,
04:43whether through diplomacy, cooperation or policy innovation,
04:47many believe open dialogue will remain essential to navigate an increasingly complex world.
