00:00gave away your best wide receiver,
00:02which I felt like Steph Diggs was more of a 1B anyways,
00:05and I still think you needed a 1A caliber player.
00:11You don't have that.
00:12Not yet.
00:13If you get A.J. Brown, hey, guess what?
00:16We're all good.
00:18I'll take back the things I said, and let's get to moving.
00:22I still would like an edge rusher,
00:24and I still think you need to add one there.
00:27You might not add an elite player,
00:28but you still need to add some of those solid role players.
00:32When it comes to their internal evaluations that they have done,
00:37do you believe that they look at the struggle that they had in the Super Bowl
00:44and perhaps offensively in the playoffs was on a lack of talent
00:50or on the injury to Drake May?
00:54I would say...
00:56A combination of the two?
00:57No.
00:58I would say the injury to Drake May, the injury to Will Campbell.
01:01So those two things allow you to say,
01:06you know what, we're not going to be dealing with either of those,
01:09fingers crossed, next season.
01:11Right.
01:12And we got to the Super Bowl dealing with both of those key injuries.
01:17But you didn't even replace the guys you lost.
01:19Like, okay, if you don't think that your team,
01:22if that's the reason you think your team lost,
01:24then you need to at least produce the same exact roster or at least same exact level of talent on
01:30the roster,
01:31you lost your number one receiver over a thousand yards, Greg, as you pointed out earlier,
01:35and you've yet to replace that.
01:37But they will.
01:38Will they?
01:38Yes.
01:39They're going to replace him with somebody.
01:41They're not going to go into...
01:42Yeah, but if they replace it with Romeo Dubs, he's not better than Stefan Diggs.
01:47No, I'm not saying he is.
01:49But in their mind, he can give you the same production that Stefan Diggs is.
01:53That Diggs gave.
01:54But he can't.
01:54We all know that.
01:55But he can't.
01:55Like, I don't care about what's in their mind.
01:57Why does that matter?
01:57Because that's the way they evaluate it.
01:59Right.
02:00And we're evaluating the way that they're building their roster.
02:02And that's a dumb way to build it.
02:03Right.
02:03But the way that they look at their roster, and it's not so much of lack of talent,
02:08and I think part of it is the injuries,
02:11but I think the other thing that they'll lean on more than anything
02:14is they were one of the youngest teams in the NFL.
02:17They're going to go, next year, Drake Make will be a year older in the world of football.
02:21He'll, you know, same with Booty and Kyle Williams and Campbell and Wilson.
02:28Like, all these guys will be a year older, and they probably look at it like,
02:33we made it to a Super Bowl, and two of our key players were dealing with injuries,
02:38and we were a young team.
02:40They seem to be, so far, approaching free agency from a luxury position
02:47where you just have to add a few parts here or there.
02:50Like, you know, we want a fullback because the Josh McDaniel system works better
02:57when you have a fullback.
02:58But if you're approaching it from that angle.
03:00Yeah, we were watching the games last year.
03:01We all thought they need a fullback.
03:03Their evaluation of the roster is bad.
03:05Like, if they think that this roster is complete, then that's not accurate at all.
03:10Like, this is a very thin roster.
03:12Right.
03:12And my favorite in the Twitch chat, Game Dog says,
03:15Curtis and Scheim could build a better roster.
03:17A guy that sits for 20 hours a week and tells us how to do a radio show
03:21is mad that we're talking about the Patriots roster building.
03:23And so if you're going to complain about the roster.
03:25Who would make a better GM?
03:27Curtis or Scheim?
03:29In football or baseball?
03:30Football.
03:31Curtis would spend more money.
03:32Yeah, I'm really good at spending other people's money.
03:34Okay.
03:34Right.
03:34Yeah.
03:35Curtis would definitely spend more money.
03:36I'd be crushing the draft, though.
03:37So I'd be stocked up on picks.
03:39You might be – you're probably going to be way happier with Curtis as your GM.
03:43Because he's going to cut –
03:44He doesn't care.
03:44Yeah, he's just floating the check to everybody.
03:47The Dodgers and the NFL.
03:48It's like Alec Pierce, $80 million a year.
03:50No problem.
03:51Right.
03:52But the thing is –
03:53Trade every pick.
03:54Five first-rounders for Patrick Mahomes.
03:56But here's the interesting –
03:57I'd sign Tom Brady tomorrow.
03:59Here's the interesting part, Greg, is that if you're complaining about the roster building,
04:06then you should be all eyes on Mike Vrabel.
04:09Because you believe, and I believe, too, that Mike Vrabel has complete control of how he wants to build the
04:18roster.
04:19So if you think this –
04:20But he doesn't have control of the money.
04:22No, no, no.
04:23We're not talking about the money right now.
04:24We're talking about the players that he brings in.
04:26Because Shime said they don't have the talent or people will say,
04:29then you need to be upset with Mike Vrabel because he's the one we all believe.
04:36Not Elliott Wolfe.
04:37We all believe that Mike Vrabel is the architect when it comes to building this roster.
04:44And Mike, Wiggy, I hear what you say, and you know Vrabel obviously better than I do.
04:48But it's not that why would he come here if he wasn't able to have final say.
04:52You have to compare it to the jobs that were open.
04:55He told Amazon Prime that a big reason he's here is because of the quarterback.
04:59The Jets were a team that everybody thought whiffed the year before on possibly hiring Vrabel.
05:04Vrabel canceled an interview with them.
05:06And I believe that's not about control.
05:08It's do you want to work for Woody Johnson and do you want your quarterback to be Justin Fields?
05:13Right.
05:14No, I agree that he came here because I think a lot is working with Robert Kraft that he had
05:20a relationship with in the past.
05:21And the fact that –
05:22And he had Drake May.
05:23And he had Drake May.
05:24I mean, every coach is going to want to go to a spot where they know that they have a
05:28capable quarterback in play.
05:31You know, you look at the Tennessee Titans with Robert Sala.
05:34He's going to an organization where the quarterback is a question.
05:38He's coming from an organization where he had quarterback issues.
05:41So that's – you know, sometimes that's a recipe for disaster.
05:44Vrabel goes, okay, based on what we've seen and, you know, the sample size of Drake May's rookie year, it
05:51looks like he has the potential.
05:52But when it comes to roster building, we all believe that it's about Mike Vrabel.
05:59So if you don't like this roster, then you need to blame him.
06:03But aren't the two things, like, in lockstep?
06:06Because the amount of money you have to spend determines on who you can actually add to the roster, right?
06:11Right.
06:12But you're saying you believe he has money to spend on A.J. Brown.
06:17Yes.
06:18Right?
06:18I believe he has money set aside because he believes that a deal will get done for A.J. Brown.
06:23Okay.
06:23So hear me out.
06:25If you have money for A.J. Brown, which is a lot of money, $30 million, $30 million, then that
06:31tells me you had the ability, if you felt like he was worth it, to pay a guy like Alec
06:38Pierce.
06:38But that means that would then prevent you from getting A.J. Brown.
06:41No, no.
06:41I understand that.
06:42But I understand that the point that I'm trying to make, he has the money.
06:46He's just choosing to go with A.J. Brown over Alec Pierce.
06:50That's fair.
06:50I mean, and they are, they have been multiple reports say they are the only team that is left in
06:57on him.
06:57Right.
06:58So that's why I said, but then Wiggy, I would question then why, why cut Stephon Diggs?
07:03You lose all the leverage.
07:04No, no.
07:05Listen, I completely agree with you, but the argument and discussion we're having is they weren't willing to pay Alec
07:12Pierce because they don't want to spend that money.
07:14An argument on why Mike Vrabel did that with Diggs that came in on the text line earlier, which was
07:20pretty good, is that because he's a, he's a player's coach and he wanted to give Diggs the opportunity to,
07:27you know, to, to be somewhere else and be with somebody else.
07:29I could, I could, I could buy that.
07:31So the $3 million was just a benefit that they didn't think of?
07:33Like, I could buy that, get them out before free agency starts and give them the opportunity to, you know,
07:40get it on those teams that might be like, all right, we need a wide receiver.
07:44And then they wait.
07:45And that, that team who could potentially go after Steph Diggs misses out because Diggs is still on the roster.
07:50Well, he didn't even get signed though.
07:52No, I know that, but there are still teams that he could, if he wasn't a free agent and they
07:57waited, then maybe a team that is looking for a wide receiver.
08:02Would, I mean, he's going to end up with somebody, right?
08:04Like people aren't waiting on the resolution of the court thing with him.
08:08No, I bet that he's waiting for.
08:09I bet his agent is talking to people.
08:11It's I bet with him, it's probably trying to figure out the money.
08:14And what's a valuable because shine brought up, um, is there a chance he comes back here?
08:19No, no, that's because you blew that by saying he didn't want to.
08:22Yeah.
08:22I'm kind of mad too.
08:23Like the Patriots weren't more in on a guy like Mike Evans.
08:26His guaranteed money is nothing.
08:28What I said, 16 million.
08:30I thought he was going to get way more money than he did, Wiggy.
08:33So there you go.
08:35You're right on that one for sure.
08:36I would have been all over that contract.
08:39Right, but they have to move team mealtime to 4 p.m.
08:41He's 90.
08:42It's fine, but it at least replaces what you lose with Stephon Diggs.
08:46But that goes back to my original point of all of this.
08:50They look at Mike Evans and they go, we don't think he's worth what he wants.
08:57He didn't get anything.
08:58Right, but they might be looking at it.
09:00Guess what?
09:01We'd rather pay-
09:02Basically a one-year, like $16 million deal.
