00:01...unlike NATO.
00:04Please.
00:05Mr. President, do you intend to lift sanctions on Iranian oil?
00:09And do you intend to potentially put U.S. troops or more troops in the region?
00:13No, I'm not putting troops anywhere.
00:16If I were, I certainly wouldn't tell you.
00:19But I'm not putting troops.
00:21And we will do whatever is necessary to keep the price...
00:26I actually thought when I did this, look,
00:28the Dow just hit 50,000 a couple of weeks ago.
00:33They said that couldn't happen for four years.
00:35It wouldn't happen in my term.
00:36It's such an outrageous thing because I said it would happen.
00:40And I saw what was happening in Iran, and I said,
00:43I hate to make this excursion, but we're going to have to do it.
00:47And I actually thought the numbers would be worse.
00:49I thought that it would go up more than it did.
00:53But we're doing this excursion, and when it's completed,
00:56we're going to have a much safer world.
00:58And the Prime Minister agrees with me on this.
01:00He considers it to be terrible what Iran did.
01:03I think every country does.
01:04Just about every country does.
01:06Iran is a serious threat to the world, to the Middle East and to the world.
01:10And everybody agrees with me.
01:12I think virtually every country agrees with me on that.
01:17So I wanted to put out that fire, and I said, you know, if I do that, oil prices will
01:22go up,
01:22the economy will go down a little bit.
01:24I thought it would be worse, much worse, actually.
01:27I thought there was a chance it could be much worse.
01:29It's not bad.
01:30And it's going to be over with pretty soon.
01:31I said, we've obliterated the Navy.
01:33We've obliterated their just about everything there is to obliterate, including leadership.
01:39Their Navy's gone.
01:40Their Air Force is gone.
01:41Their anti-aircraft equipment is gone.
01:43We're flying wherever we want, Pete.
01:45We have no, nobody even shooting at us.
01:48They have, I mean, and as you know, their leadership is gone.
01:54Their leaders are gone.
01:56They pick new leaders, they're gone.
01:58They pick new leaders, they're gone.
01:59And now they're looking for new leaders again.
02:14In addition, Japan condemns Iran's actions such as attacking the neighboring region and also the de facto or effective closure
02:23of the Strait of Hormuz.
02:25As a matter of fact, my fellow minister, Minister Motegi, Foreign Minister Motegi, also had the direct exchange with the
02:34Iranian foreign minister and urged Iran to stop such activities.
02:40And also the security environment in the Indo-Pacific region is also becoming increasingly severe.
02:47Donald, you have shown deep trust in Japan and also the unwavering commitment to the Japan-U.S. alliance.
02:56Once again, thank you very much for that.
02:58That was Japanese.
03:00I've never seen that.
03:03The president, you just mentioned Japan is stepping up.
03:09Look, I expect Japan to step up because, you know, we have that kind of relationship.
03:14And we step up with Japan.
03:16We have 45,000 soldiers in Japan.
03:20We have, we spend a lot of money on Japan.
03:22So we don't need much.
03:23We don't need anything.
03:24I mean, honestly, we don't need anything from Japan or from anyone else.
03:28But I think it's appropriate that people step up.
03:31In the case of Japan, I hear they get more than 90 percent of their oil through the Strait.
03:37So that's a big reason to step up.
03:40But honestly, Japan, China, Europe, parts of Europe get a lot of their oil through the Strait.
03:48We get none, practically.
03:50We're less, we're less than 1 percent.
03:52We don't have to be any percent.
03:53We don't even, I think we do it just to be nice.
03:56But we, think of it, we don't use the Strait.
04:01We're defending the Strait for everybody else.
04:03And then in the case of NATO, they don't want to help us defend the Strait.
04:09And they're the ones that need it.
04:11But now they're getting much nicer because they're seeing my attitude.
04:14They're getting much nicer.
04:15But it's, as far as I'm concerned, it's too late.
