00:00Did Netanyahu use AI to prove he's still alive?
00:07Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mocked rumours about his death in a social media clip shared on the 15th of
00:13March.
00:14Claims that he had died went viral online as the US-Israeli war in Iran rages on.
00:19Many of these false claims have been spread by Iranian state media and pro-regime accounts,
00:24who have also pushed propaganda to boast Iran's military might.
00:28Netanyahu is not the only senior Israeli political figure to be targeted with death rumours in the context of the
00:34conflict in the Middle East.
00:36Lots of posts on X falsely claim that Israel's Mossad chief David Banya has been killed, but there is no
00:42verified evidence.
00:43In this video, shot in the Sataf Cafe in the outskirts of Jerusalem,
00:47Israel's Prime Minister can be seen holding his five fingers up to the camera.
00:51He appears to be taking aim at internet users who claim that the video of an address he gave on
00:56the 12th of March was generated by artificial intelligence.
00:59They argue that the video was AI because it appeared to show him with six fingers.
01:04In reality, Netanyahu's hand was distorted in lower quality versions of the video,
01:09and the way the light hits his hand is deceiving.
01:11But although Netanyahu shared his own video to dispel rumours about his death, it appears to have had the reverse
01:17effect.
01:18On the 16th of March, Iran's Tasnim news agency published an article titled,
01:23New video of Netanyahu proves fake.
01:25The piece listed a series of alleged telltale signs which supposedly show Netanyahu's video is fake.
01:31Grok also posted contradictory information, which included claims the video was a deepfake.
01:37In reality, verification experts confirmed to us that the video is authentic,
01:41and warned that many AI detectors had proved unreliable in this instance.
01:45This match has evidence shared by the Sataaf Cafe, which posted a range of different photographs and videos,
01:51as proof that Netanyahu visited and that he's still very much alive.
