00:05And breaking news coming in right now, we are getting information that currently what you see on your screens right
00:16now is actually the funeral procession of Ali Lari Jani right now.
00:21These are the live visuals of the funeral procession of the National Security Chief Ali Lari Jani of Iran who
00:31was killed in Israeli strikes.
00:33You see on your screens the visuals from Israel of that procession.
00:44Ali Lari Jani was killed in strikes that were initiated by Israel to target the top military and political leaders
00:53of Iran.
00:56The strike targeted a residence in Pardi area where he had gone to visit his daughter along with his son.
01:09And the visuals that you are seeing on your screen right now are of that funeral which is now being
01:15held in Iran for Ali Lari Jani.
01:19Ali Lari Jani, when he was visiting his daughter, he was accompanied by his son Murtja who was also believed
01:27to have been killed.
01:28And in fact a photograph was also released of the coffins of Ali Lari Jani and his son.
01:36And it is believed that in this strike many of his bodyguards were also eliminated.
01:41So Israel has continuously been targeting the top military leadership and also the political leadership of Iran in an attempt
01:49to weaken them.
01:51To ensure that Iran cannot go on with this fight and retaliate.
01:56But we have seen that since yesterday there have been multiple attempts at killing the top leadership apart from Ali
02:05Lari Jani.
02:06The Basij chief was also killed. The Basij chief known as Ghulam Reza Soleimani, he was also killed.
02:14Basij, the force that is mainly responsible for quelling any sort of protest within Iran.
02:20An army of men clad in black who would down upon the protestors as soon as they would get information
02:30of any protest in Tehran.
02:32And now we see the visuals of the leader.
02:38The national security chief Ali Lari Jani was killed in Israeli strikes yesterday.
02:43That announcement was made by the Israeli defense minister.
02:46And then later on it was confirmed by Iranian media itself as well as the Iranian state media.
02:54And the Supreme National Security Council confirmed on Tuesday that Ali Lari Jani, the secretary of the council and a
03:04veteran politician as well was killed in an Israeli strike.
03:10Joining us now live is India Today Global's Pranay Upadhyay.
03:15Pranay once again another big funeral.
03:18And this time as you can see on the screens it's a sea of black with flags over there defying
03:25any fears of any strike we see many people there on the streets of Tehran.
03:32Do tell us what's happening over there and what sort of a message is Tehran trying to send out with
03:38these live visuals coming out of the funeral of Ali Lari Jani.
03:42Anjali, these are the visuals of Iran's resilience as well as Iran's defiance.
03:47That they are not backing down, they are not succumbing under the pressure and Tehran want to send out the
03:52message loud and clear that the regime is there to stay and it is well and deep and pringed.
03:58You know, United States and Israel thought that the people would come after the decapitation of the top leadership and
04:04they will take over Tehran.
04:06There will be an alternative arrangement or alternative government will emerge in Tehran.
04:09But that did not happen.
04:11And you know, this is the funeral procession of not only Ali Lari Jani or Ghulam Reza Soleimani, the Basij
04:17commander, but also the 84 Iranian naval sailors who died in the submarine strike carried out by the U.S.
04:26military, U.S. Navy in the Indian Ocean region with IRIS DENA.
04:30And their bodies recently returned via India because from Sri Lanka the aircraft came to India.
04:36They took some sailors, you know, and went back to Iran.
04:40And in fact, we have seen that the recent statement put out by Ali Lari Jani, you know, in fact
04:47highlighting the martyrdom of these naval sailors.
04:51And in fact, you know, who would have ever thought that he will be buried along with these 84 sailors,
04:57those who died in the U.S. naval strike.
05:01And in fact, this procession, the way in last 18, 19 days, Anjali, the way Iranians have, you know, carried
05:08out the funeral processions, the way they have buried these soldiers and those who have lost their lives in the
05:14American and Israeli strike.
05:15That also shows that, you know, Iran want to send out a message of defiance and their, you know, the
05:21consistency or rather the deep entrenchment of their political system.
05:26In fact, they also want to show that people of Iran are still standing by the same regime.
05:32So, in fact, these are not only the visuals of defiance or the Iranian perseverance, but these are also the,
05:40you know, the visuals conveying the message that there is a rallying around flag phenomena here.
05:45Where the Iranian nationality, Iranian identity, when it comes under attack, people forget their differences and people are still standing
05:53by the same government against whom they have protested recently.
05:57So, so clearly, you know, Tehran is sending out this message, but definitely there is a worry in Tehran and
06:03especially in the leadership because amid all these things in last 24 hours, there was a heavy crackdown on the
06:09spy networks and carried out by the Basij and IRGC troops in Iran in different locations.
06:16And the Iranian media sources are claimed that around 100 people have been rounded up on spying charges.
06:22They have recovered certain star links, they have recovered some arms and ammunition, and definitely they want to show out
06:28the message that the regime is still having a control, their grip on the system, and they are still being
06:34able to carry out their operations as well.
06:37Right, Pranay, you know, you know, in this entire wartime, we had seen that he had become a central figure
06:43in terms of wartime leadership, you know, sort of a de facto leader when nobody could see where Mujtaba was
06:50or how he was or how healthy he was.
06:53Ali Larijani was seen to be the one pulling the strings.
06:56So this would be a significant blow to the Iranian leadership.
07:00And today also we are hearing about the intelligence minister also being targeted.
07:07Absolutely, Anjali. Indeed, this is a big setback for the Iranian, you know, Iranian government.
07:12Because Ali Larijani, in the recent, you know, in last one year, he has emerged as a key figure in
07:18terms of the diplomatic negotiation, in terms of the nuclear negotiation.
07:22And in fact, he was considered as a very close aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's late supreme leader and the
07:28new supreme leader, Mujtaba Khamenei as well.
07:30And he was a key connection between the IRGC commanders and the political leadership.
07:35So, in fact, he was a key figure for the entire command and control structure of Iran.
07:41And with him being out of the system now, we do not know that who has replaced Iran has not
07:48announced the new secretary for the National Supreme Security Council, which is a very key, important body.
07:54And in fact, he was the one, at one point of time, Anjali, he was considered as a probable choice
07:59or could be the probable choice for the Washington, D.C. to have an alternative arrangement because he was an
08:06articulate figure.
08:08You know, his daughter still remains in the United States and she was a medical professor there.
08:15And he had its links, international links as well.
08:18So, he was once considered as an articulate figure.
08:21But post-12-day war of last year, May and June 2025, with his responses, as recent as January 2026,
08:29the United States designated him in the sanction list.
08:32And thereafter, they have also announced, you know, a $10 million prize on his head.
08:39And now, since he is no more, definitely it will have its own impact on the Iranian system, their command
08:46and control system.
08:47And certainly, there is also a risk, there are more hardliner phase can come as its replacement.
08:54Because the more you go down in any hierarchical or any pyramidical structure, the lower strata or the people, those
09:00who are likely to take up that position, could be more hardliner.
09:04They might not have that kind of articulation which is required for the international negotiation, for the back channel, for
09:10the diplomatic talks.
09:11And that is a risk which remains in Tehran.
09:15Right. And, you know, as you are mentioning the leadership, let's also talk about the killing of the intelligence minister.
09:23Now, while announcing the death or the killing of the intelligence minister, it seems that the Israeli defense minister has
09:30said that significant surprises, I quote him, are expected today and will escalate the war with Iran.
09:38So, it clearly seems that Israel has now sort of intensified its attack on the leadership and is sort of
09:45looking for an endgame.
09:48Anjali, you know, Israel never, they never shied away by these statements.
09:57They always maintain that they will go down the entire chain of command, they will hunt down their heads.
10:03And we have seen in last one year that during the 12-day war as well, they have eliminated some
10:09key figures.
10:10Iran came up with some, with their replacements.
10:12And now, with the first blow on 28th of February, they eliminated around 40 leaders of Iranian, you know, including
10:21the defense minister, including the army chief, including the,
10:24in fact, the topmost was the Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and with the intelligence chief, the NSA, Ali
10:31Lari Jani, or the Ghulam Reza Soleimani, the Basij commander.
10:35Clearly, they have given out the Tel Aviv's message is clear that they will hunt down all the leaders, all
10:40the top tier.
10:41And if you see, Israel has been pursuing this policy with all the, be it, be it, they're hunting down
10:47the Hamas leadership.
10:48We have seen that how they have targeted Ismail Hania in Tehran at a time when they, when Iranian President
10:54Masood Padishkan was swearing in.
10:56And, and that, at that point of time, they eliminated Ismail Hania thereafter, Yahya Sinbar.
11:02Similarly, in case of Hassan Nasrullah as well in Lebanon, they eliminated Hassan Nasrullah, his successor.
11:06And even the third tier, they have went down, you know, they hunted down the third tier of the leadership
11:11as well.
11:12So, similarly, Israel want to give out the message that they, they are, they are on full throttle to, to
11:18eliminate the leadership structure of Iran.
11:21Right. Thank you very much, Pranay, for all those details.
11:24So, clearly, Iran is there, trying to send out a message to these live visuals that we are receiving from
11:29there,
11:30off of the funeral of Ali Larijani, that they are still ready to fight and defy it.
