00:02Cloughed and out, never hit it, tucked up, brilliant stuff from Kurt Sear.
00:07Plan A has come together for them straight up.
00:13Oh, Robinson, he's very quick into anything short, and that was only just short.
00:20Oh, I'll take those. You love those.
00:24Slifford just gone.
00:27Oh, close, Stannis, really closer now.
00:30Yeah, that was full, it was straight, it was angling back.
00:33And I don't think there'll be a review here.
00:36I think Latham will turn and walk. He knows he's been hit in front.
00:41No timing at all. A good catch.
00:45New Zealand in trouble now.
00:48Bowled him straight through, knack and crock.
00:52Kelly's played all around that, and he goes.
00:55Swing bowling conditions.
00:58No swing, and time down the ground.
01:00Man, right out of the screws.
01:03South Africa.
01:05Barkman gets taken downtown for six.
01:13Taking on the arm, it's a goal, I don't think he's got it.
01:16The last few overs.
01:18Bowled him.
01:21Maharaj, Stedem all ends up.
01:26Field on the boundary, oh, watch it go for six.
01:32Got the neck, and Conor Esthaisen doesn't make any mistake.
01:38What an over from McQuaida.
01:41Show some talent.
01:44Another wicket.
01:46Stamps rattled here at Bay Oval.
01:53Easy catch for Ruben Hermann.
01:59That's hanging in the air.
02:02Excellent catch.
02:06Ben Jacobs holds on to Askaya.
02:10He's disappointed as Tony DeZozy.
02:17With on offer, and put away for four.
02:23He's launched that.
02:26He's got all of it.
02:30Backs away.
02:31But this goes high into the night sky.
02:36Excellent take from Tom Latham.
02:40Split finger grip for Sears, and that has been picked up
02:43and spanked over the pavilion for six.
02:47That is a root ball.
02:52I hope they've got gutter guards, otherwise that's done for.
02:59We'll find that next summer.
03:04Oh, it's done well to catch up to it.
03:07Firstly, next to Hazen, sliding down the leg side from Ben Sears.
03:13Gets the edge, just wide of the slip.
03:16And that is racing away on this outfield.
03:18Jamison does his best.
03:22Oh, that is beautifully played.
03:24On the reverse, so elegantly done.
03:27Swept away for four.
03:30Oh, beats him.
03:32Wow-wee, that is a seed from Santner.
03:42Punched away.
03:44Punched away for six.
03:48That is a lovely shot.
03:50Esther Hazen gets it done for South Africa.
03:54The Proteas take a 1-0 lead in the series,
03:57and they've done it by seven wickets here.
03:59Yeah, Zach, probably not the result the team were expecting today.
04:04Walk me through, Pani, your thoughts just coming off the ground.
04:07Yeah, obviously a weird kind of game of cricket.
04:11Yeah, we were probably just a little bit slow to adapt to the surface, potentially.
04:17And look, they're a quality team, and they bob really well up top
04:21and put us under a lot of pressure.
04:23And, yeah, today we didn't adapt quick enough.
04:27And, yeah, we saw a bit of scrap in the end,
04:31but 92 was never really going to be enough.
04:34If we could put 120, 130 on the board, that might have been a different story.
04:38But, yeah, today wasn't that day.
04:41Look, all that easy for either set of batters out there today.
04:45Yeah, what can you kind of tell us about what the comms were coming back from the batters?
04:50What was it like out there?
04:51Yeah, it was sort of mixed comms.
04:53Because at the start, it was obviously doing a little bit with the new ball,
04:58with the seamers.
04:59And then, yeah, we sort of threw the middle, just sort of held in the wicket.
05:04And obviously Keshav bowled really well through the middle there
05:07and put us under a lot of pressure.
05:09Yeah, and then we saw Satner just do what Satner sort of does.
05:14What did he bowl for?
05:15It was one for eight or something.
05:18Two for eight.
05:20And really put them under a lot of pressure, chasing such a small target.
05:27What are, you know, when you're in those moments and you're defending a small target,
05:31and, you know, what are some of the conversations that are happening out in the middle,
05:34teams scrapping together, and what's kind of the message that the leadership group
05:39is sending the boys at that time?
05:41Yeah, we as a group, we thrive scrapping.
05:44We talk about it a lot.
05:46And in the middle, at the middle part of the game, we just came together and said,
05:53let's just make this the hardest 92, two runs for them to get.
05:58And, yeah, I think we made it look pretty hard for them at times there.
06:04Yeah.
06:05I think the field in particular, you know, you always expect it from black hat sides,
06:09but, you know, even more noticeable tonight, guys throwing themselves around.
06:14And, yeah, is that part of the direct cons that kind of goes out to guys before getting on there?
06:18Yeah, 100%.
06:20Just 100% commit.
06:21Trust yourself out there.
06:24Saw Tim Robinson putting some amazing yards on the far side there
06:28and even got himself under the lid as well.
06:31Unfortunately, he put that chance down, but, yeah, it was awesome to see him do what he does.
06:39And then just a word on the skipper as well.
06:41Well, you know, as you said earlier, that is quite an effort with the ball.
06:47Produced some really good performances in the last two months over in India as well.
06:52And maybe even sometimes historically can be a bowler that goes under the radar a wee bit, I think.
06:58What value does he bring to this black hat side?
07:00Oh, 100%.
07:00His bowling is unbelievable.
07:03We saw that today.
07:06And his batting has just gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years.
07:10See him up at six today, which, yeah, is awesome.
07:14He's played some amazing knocks over the last couple of months.
07:17Just leading this team with real tenacity and calmness, I guess,
07:21which is what you sort of need out there, especially in T20 cricket.
07:26Just a word on the South African side.
07:29It's a side full of, you know, I don't think there are four debutants in it tonight,
07:34so probably a few guys that, you know, our squad hasn't played before.
07:39What were kind of, yeah, some of the, yeah, I guess some of the prep that happens around
07:44when you play guys that maybe you haven't come up against before?
07:47Yeah, there's obviously a little bit of video work with our analyst, Hamish.
07:53We, yeah, obviously with the SA20 have access to a lot of footage
07:59and a lot of high-level cricket that they play in their country, so tapped into that.
08:05And then obviously tapping into the likes of James Neesham,
08:08who's also played in that competition, and Devin Conway,
08:13seeing what they have to say on their players.
08:18Yeah, sort of just a mixture a bit between that sort of stuff.
08:21And actually we played a tour in the winter, and a few of those guys played in that,
08:27which was really cool.
08:28So I've played actually a few of them before, the two human brothers,
08:33Gerald, and a couple others, so I guess we take a little bit of an input from that.
08:40And just for you personally, Zach, you know, finished up that tour,
08:44the White Bull tour of India, came home and had probably, you know,
08:50a bit of time off from the game, both domestically and internationally.
08:53So, yeah, how's that break been for you personally,
08:56and how satisfying is it to be back and, you know,
09:01produce tonight two really good overs going for not too many?
09:05Yeah.
09:06Had about four weeks gym block without any cricket,
09:10which, yeah, Chris Donaldson put me through my paces,
09:14which is always challenging.
09:16But great, and, yeah, feeling nice and strong.
09:21Just mentally refreshed a little bit.
09:24Yeah, it was really nice to be back out there with the lads today.
09:28Really excited to be a part of this team again,
09:32and, yeah, really looking forward to digging in the next four games.
09:35Speaking on those, and this will be the last one from me,
09:38but, you know, the team heads to Hamilton tomorrow
09:40for the second of five T20s.
09:43What can you take away from this performance tonight
09:45that'll, you know, hopefully help moving into Hamilton?
09:49Yeah, I think bowlers can take a little bit of confidence
09:51from how we bowled.
09:52Obviously, the wicket was very helping, very sporting.
09:56Yeah, and also we've had a look at their players.
09:59We know what they're going to sort of throw at us,
10:02which is, I guess, helps in certain ways.
10:08Yeah, but they also have had a look at us,
10:10and they know what we're going to front up like.
10:12So, yeah, it should be a good game too.
10:15It has been some time since your last game for the Pro Tiers.
10:19How good does it feel to be back
10:20and make an immediate impact in leading this pace attack?
10:23Yeah, excellent.
10:24I think it was, I was very excited,
10:26but also just very, like, happy to be back.
10:29Like, really made a point to try and enjoy it tonight,
10:32and I think a win for the team is always great.
10:34So, yeah, it was really great.
10:36Now, you struck early in the power play,
10:38which helped set the tone.
10:39How important was it to make those early breakthroughs
10:41on the surface?
10:42I think, yeah, I think it's always important,
10:44but I think it was nice that,
10:46I think all the bowlers chipped in from the start.
10:48Otas also taking two and one over,
10:51and then, yeah, Moxie finishing up nicely
10:54with Keshe also just playing his part in the middle.
10:57So, I think, yeah, it was a great team effort.
11:00On that, just talk us through the bowling partnerships tonight.
11:02Exactly that.
11:03I think everyone played their part beautifully.
11:06I think we executed really well,
11:08and I think we can be really proud
11:10of the performance we put in tonight.
11:12Speaking of McQuinnor, he had a brilliant debut spell.
11:15What impressed you the most about the way
11:16he handled himself in his first international match?
11:19Yeah, I said to, I said it in the break
11:22that he looked like someone who's played 50 games already.
11:25He looked really calm, walked back if it went well
11:29or if it was maybe a ball which went for a boundary.
11:32He just looked like he was composed,
11:33and I think that's great science.
11:36And then how hard has the journey been
11:38to get back into the pro tiers for yourself,
11:40and what was the most difficult part of that journey?
11:44I think anyone who gets injured
11:47and then having to work their way back is always hard,
11:50and I think I had recurring injuries,
11:52which is very difficult,
11:53but I wouldn't change it for anything.
11:56You always learn something.
11:57You always get a bit better,
11:58and it always means so much when you get back here.
12:01So, yeah, it has been challenging,
12:02but it's also been, you know, it's been a blessed time.
12:05And then where do you see yourself in the SA pecking order,
12:08and what do you feel you need to work on
12:11in your T20 game to be a regular?
12:13Yeah, that's an interesting question.
12:16I think South African cricket's in a very healthy place,
12:18and I think we've got a really great pool of players.
12:22So where I'm in the pecking order, I don't really know.
12:25I'm playing now, which is great,
12:27and I think that will be my focus,
12:28just to play where I can to do my best.
12:31And you can always get better at something.
12:33You know, there's not one specific thing.
12:36So, yeah, I think all facets,
12:37you'll always try and get better
12:38and use every opportunity you get.
12:41And then it's quick to turn around to the next game,
12:43just in the next 48 hours.
12:45So how good is it to start the series
12:47with such a good win in the style
12:49in which you guys did it tonight?
12:50Yeah, it's always good cricket.
12:52It's a game of momentum,
12:53so to get on the front foot,
12:54but four games left, it's a lot of games.
12:57So I think just to reset quickly,
13:00and tonight was a bit of a weird wicket.
13:02The next one might be great.
13:03So, yeah, celebrate the win,
13:04but move on quickly to the next one.
13:07You say weird wicket there?
13:08Just talk us through the conditions here tonight.
13:10It was interesting.
13:11I think we thought it might be a bit too paced,
13:16but it was very too paced,
13:17and it seemed to turn more,
13:19which I don't think any of us really expected.
13:22But, I mean, it's fun.
13:23It's part of cricket.
13:24I feel like always when it's 200-plus runs,
13:27when you get a score like this,
13:28and it's a bit tacky.
13:29It's also quite fun to watch.
13:31It's also quite fun to watch.
