Our fans asked for it, and we delivered. An overwhelmingly successful April Fools’ joke from 2025 is becoming reality at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring 2026 (GER) – the racing version of the BMW M3 Touring. On 16th/17th May, the BMW M3 Touring 24H will compete as a spectacular highlight for spectators in the “Green Hell.” The car will make its racing debut next weekend at the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS). All technical data on the BMW M3 Touring 24H as well as detailed information on the modifications can be found in our Media Guide.

Shortly after the market launch of the BMW M3 Touring road car in 2022, BMW M Motorsport began considering the idea of building a racing version as well. However, it took a special key moment to turn the idea of parallel engineers into a concrete plan – and that moment was, of all things, an April Fools’ joke. On 1st April 2025, BMW M Motorsport posted images on its social media platforms of a supposedly in-development BMW M3 Touring GT race car. The response from fans and the media to this post was overwhelming. It reached more than one million users and generated over 1.6 million views. Engagement on the posts was also many times higher than the usual figures for BMW M Motorsport’s social media channels.

00:07It started as an April Fool. You dreamed it, we built it. I'm very proud to present to you
00:13the BMW N3 Touring 24-hour. The car is based on the chassis of the BMW N3 Touring production car.
00:26We have a lot of takeover parts from the M4 TT3. For example, the whole powertrain, the systems,
00:32the kinematics as well as the overall wheelbase. But because of the shape of the Touring, especially
00:37in regards to aerodynamics, we had to modify a lot of parts. The main aerodynamic modifications start
00:42here at the driver door, which is a little bit shorter. We also have a rear door due to the
00:46unique
00:47shape of the Touring, which we cannot open anymore here on our race car. Let's have a look inside.
00:52The cockpit is one-to-one takeover from our M4 GT3. Due to the unique Touring shape and also the
00:59combination of the B-pillar, we have a slightly modified seat position. And talking about the seat,
01:03at any given time we could also implement a passenger seat, by the way. But the main difference
01:08is on the rear axle of the car. The wing profile is a carryover part from the M4 GT3, but
01:13we had to
01:14extend it by 200 mm as well as to raise it by 32 mm to increase the overall aerodynamical performance.
01:20A race car belongs on a racetrack and therefore we are very proud to be competing at this year's
01:2624-hour race at Nürburgring. Our first race will be the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie
01:31to start our preparation for the big race coming up soon.
