00:00:00.
00:00:06.
00:01:11You know that tree belongs in a compost heap, not at the front of the store.
00:01:15Quiet! She will hear you.
00:01:17Someone's been drinking a little too much eggnog again.
00:01:19A, there is no such thing as too much eggnog, and B, Geraldine will make a perfect Christmas tree one
00:01:24year.
00:01:25Geraldine?
00:01:27Geraldine.
00:01:27She just, uh, needs a little time and a little TLC.
00:01:31You know my mom loved every tree that came through here.
00:01:34And every human.
00:01:35And I am not about to let her legacy go now that I am running things.
00:01:38We got decorations up day after Thanksgiving, just like she did.
00:01:41Hot cocoa and cookies for the shoppers, just like she did.
00:01:44And now I'm going to give Geraldine here a shop because that is exactly what she would do.
00:01:49She'd be proud of you, Ange.
00:01:52I hope so.
00:01:53I know so.
00:01:54All the work you've put into this place since last Christmas.
00:01:58She made Christmas so special for everyone.
00:02:00I just really want to honor her this year.
00:02:02Well, if I didn't work here, I'd think she was still running this place.
00:02:07It's just like she left it.
00:02:09Right down to our aprons.
00:02:11I told you, Blair, the aprons stay.
00:02:13They're itchy.
00:02:16Besides, you know I'd rock a jolto.
00:02:18I know.
00:02:21Ooh, any good mail?
00:02:23The best mail.
00:02:24The official schedule for the Green Pine Grove Town Square.
00:02:27Christmas Eve Festival of Lights!
00:02:30You really need a catchier name for that.
00:02:32Yeah.
00:02:33Well, don't leave me hanging.
00:02:35We've got hot chocolates from around the world.
00:02:37I'm here for it.
00:02:38Mad Lib Christmas carols.
00:02:40Already laughing.
00:02:41Make your own gingerbread house.
00:02:42Oh, Dad's favorite.
00:02:43And the tree decorating contest for the lighting in Town Square.
00:02:46And Mom's favorite.
00:02:49We love the tree lighting.
00:02:52Well, speaking of trees, looks like we have a shopper.
00:02:56Ooh, I'm on it.
00:02:58Keep an eye on her, will ya?
00:03:01I don't think she's going anywhere.
00:03:03Oh, I was talking to Geraldine.
00:03:08Hello there.
00:03:09Can I help you find something?
00:03:11Yes, please.
00:03:11I need a tree.
00:03:12Oh, well, you came to the right place.
00:03:14What kind of tree are you looking for?
00:03:15Well, I've never bought a tree before.
00:03:18Well, I can definitely help you find the perfect tree.
00:03:21I'm thinking a tree that has a lot of space underneath,
00:03:23because I can tell Santa's going to bring you a lot of gifts.
00:03:26Well, it shouldn't be too big,
00:03:27because it has to fit on the top of the car.
00:03:30Ooh, boy, this could take a while.
00:03:31Do you need a cookie while you shop?
00:03:35So who are you shopping with?
00:03:36Does someone else need a cookie?
00:03:38They definitely do.
00:03:42Or maybe some hot chocolate.
00:03:46David.
00:03:47Hey, Angie.
00:03:48You know her?
00:03:50Uh, Angie and I used to be friends.
00:03:53We used to be?
00:03:53Ouch.
00:03:55Uh, what are you doing here?
00:03:56I haven't seen you since graduation.
00:03:58Uh, we're home for Christmas.
00:04:00I'm working remotely for a couple of weeks,
00:04:02staying at my sister's,
00:04:03and we needed a tree,
00:04:04so I knew where we had to come.
00:04:06Happiest trees in town.
00:04:08How can a tree be happy?
00:04:10Well, let me show you.
00:04:12Come on.
00:04:16Abigail, Eleanor, Miranda,
00:04:18ladies, I'd like you to meet David,
00:04:19and, uh, I'm sorry I didn't get your name.
00:04:22Gabby.
00:04:22That's a beautiful name.
00:04:24I'm named after my mom.
00:04:25So am I.
00:04:26I'm Angie.
00:04:27So you named your trees?
00:04:29Well, that's what makes them happy.
00:04:30You gotta treat them like they're family.
00:04:33We planted Abigail here
00:04:34when I graduated high school.
00:04:36Eleanor was to celebrate our new greenhouse,
00:04:38and, uh, old Miranda over there.
00:04:41Well, we planted her
00:04:42after I got my first broken heart.
00:04:43My mom always said
00:04:44there was no better way to celebrate
00:04:45or be sad than plant a new tree.
00:04:47How is your mom?
00:04:49Uh, she actually passed away
00:04:51last Christmas.
00:04:53Angie, I'm so sorry.
00:04:55Your mom was a wonderful lady.
00:04:56Definitely planted a lot of trees.
00:04:59Gabby here lost her mom two years ago.
00:05:01I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:05:04Well, if your mom is anything like mine,
00:05:05I know she's definitely
00:05:06smiling down on you right now.
00:05:11Uh, I think Abigail here
00:05:12is telling me she wants to go home with you.
00:05:13What do you say?
00:05:14Yeah?
00:05:15Let's go grab some rope, okay?
00:05:18Okay.
00:05:24Well, this place is exactly
00:05:26how I remembered it.
00:05:27Oh, I try to keep things the same.
00:05:28Yeah, exactly the same.
00:05:32How long are you in town?
00:05:33Just for Christmas.
00:05:34We're heading back to Florida in January.
00:05:36Oh, well, that's a...
00:05:38uh, warmer.
00:05:41Tell Lily we said hi.
00:05:43I will.
00:05:44It was nice to meet you, Gabby.
00:05:45Thank you for the tree.
00:05:47Of course.
00:05:47Take good care of Abigail, okay?
00:05:49I will.
00:05:55What?
00:05:55What do you mean, what?
00:05:57David Mitchell came to see you.
00:05:58Hey, David Mitchell came to buy a tree.
00:06:01From you?
00:06:02I haven't seen him in, like, ten years.
00:06:04You heard him.
00:06:05He's just here for Christmas.
00:06:06They're leaving in January.
00:06:07So, probably won't even see them
00:06:09before they go.
00:06:10But you wouldn't mind if you did.
00:06:13Okay, don't you have inventory
00:06:14to talk about the inventory?
00:06:26There we go.
00:06:32Aunt Lily, we got a tree!
00:06:34I see that!
00:06:35Did you pick out a good one?
00:06:36Mm-hmm!
00:06:37This is Abigail.
00:06:38Abigail?
00:06:39Daddy's friend Angie helped us pick her out.
00:06:42Angie?
00:06:43You drove all the way out
00:06:44to Waldron's nursery?
00:06:46Babe, the happiest tree!
00:06:48Exactly.
00:06:49You wouldn't want us
00:06:49to get an unhappy one, would you?
00:06:51Can we bring Abigail inside?
00:06:52Sure!
00:06:53Yeah!
00:06:54I think the tree can stay outside.
00:06:56We have to take it with us tomorrow.
00:06:58Come on.
00:06:59Bye!
00:07:03I'm home!
00:07:04Hey!
00:07:06Ooh, what is this?
00:07:09This is Stone Ginge.
00:07:11Wow, Dad.
00:07:12This might even beat your Ginge Mahal
00:07:14from last year.
00:07:15Better pace yourself.
00:07:16You're going to run out of landmarks.
00:07:18Yeah.
00:07:19If I do, I'll just start sculpting presidents.
00:07:23Ginge Washington, Thomas Gingerson.
00:07:25Maybe we'll find you some more landmarks.
00:07:27Ha-ha.
00:07:28How was the nursery today?
00:07:30You will never guess who stopped by.
00:07:32David Mitchell.
00:07:34David Mitchell?
00:07:35He's home for Christmas.
00:07:36And I got to meet his daughter.
00:07:38She is such a sweetheart.
00:07:39Hmm.
00:07:39That's nice.
00:07:43Dad, why is Aunt Joan's ceramic tree
00:07:45over here in the corner?
00:07:47I thought it looked nice there.
00:07:48You know that we always put it in the window.
00:07:51Mom likes it.
00:07:55The way it lights up the window.
00:07:58I know it.
00:08:00I miss her, too.
00:08:03But your mom would want us
00:08:05to make the most of Christmas.
00:08:06It was her favorite.
00:08:08No.
00:08:09You just don't want to change
00:08:11too many of our traditions this year.
00:08:12Not when everything else feels different.
00:08:19Speaking of traditions...
00:08:21Ah, the Green Pine Grove Town Square
00:08:23Christmas Eve Festival of Lights.
00:08:24I really need a new name for that.
00:08:26Yeah.
00:08:27Are you entering the gingerbread contest again?
00:08:29Oh, yeah, of course.
00:08:30A stone ginger is just practice.
00:08:34You know, it's...
00:08:34It's hard to think about the Christmas tree lighting
00:08:38without your mom.
00:08:39You know, she always wanted to enter the contest.
00:08:42Really?
00:08:43Yeah.
00:08:44She said if she could find the time,
00:08:46she'd make sure that a Walden nursery tree
00:08:49took the top spot.
00:08:51She was always so busy.
00:08:53But she took it personally
00:08:55when a tree she raised from a seedling didn't win.
00:09:00She loved those trees.
00:09:03Happiest trees in town.
00:09:05Happiest husband.
00:09:10Come on.
00:09:11I'll warm you up some dinner.
00:09:38I entered.
00:09:40You did.
00:09:41And very dramatically.
00:09:42Not that.
00:09:43The Green Pine Grove Town Square
00:09:45Christmas Eve Festival of Lights
00:09:46Christmas Tree Decorating Contest.
00:09:49What?
00:09:50Doesn't that start tomorrow?
00:09:51Yes.
00:09:52Which is why I need you to help me
00:09:53come up with a theme right away.
00:09:55What do we think about
00:09:56a Christmas love tree?
00:10:00I don't get it.
00:10:01Yeah, me either.
00:10:02Okay.
00:10:03If we're gonna win this,
00:10:04we need to come up with something really good.
00:10:05Wait.
00:10:07When did this become a wee thing?
00:10:08When I registered us this morning.
00:10:12Angela Catherine Waldron.
00:10:13Look, it says Team Satu.
00:10:15Who else am I gonna pair up with?
00:10:17Literally anyone.
00:10:18Angie, you know I have zero flair for decorating.
00:10:22Less than zero.
00:10:24Negative zero.
00:10:25Okay, well, negative zero's not a thing.
00:10:26And neither is my decorating ability.
00:10:28Come on.
00:10:29I'll put on all the lights.
00:10:30All you have to do is just plug it in.
00:10:32It'll be a piece of Christmas cake.
00:10:37Come on, Blair.
00:10:38You know how I told you
00:10:39I wanted to find a way
00:10:40to honor my mom this Christmas?
00:10:41This is it.
00:10:42My dad told me my mom
00:10:43always wanted to enter this contest.
00:10:45So if we win
00:10:46and they light up
00:10:47one of her trees in Town Square,
00:10:49that'll be the perfect way to remember her.
00:10:53You're not gonna make me miss out on that, are you?
00:10:58You know this is still a competition.
00:11:00You're not guaranteed to win.
00:11:02Well, not technically,
00:11:03but who else loves Christmas like I do?
00:11:06Literally.
00:11:07No one.
00:11:07No one.
00:11:08Ever.
00:11:08Ever.
00:11:12I just have to plug the lights in.
00:11:14That's the spirit!
00:11:16Okay, we need to come up with something
00:11:20unique, but familiar.
00:11:21You know, cute, but classy,
00:11:23and fresh, timeless.
00:11:25A very, uh,
00:11:28very something Christmas.
00:11:30Yeah, you know,
00:11:31I think you got it.
00:11:34Okay, okay.
00:11:35Um,
00:11:37the tree wise men.
00:11:40Gold, frankincense, and fur.
00:11:42You are leaning pretty heavy
00:11:44on the magi there, Blair.
00:11:47I've got it.
00:11:49Flight of the bumble tree.
00:11:52Okay, we're trying to win this.
00:11:54Can't go in there
00:11:54with Flight of the Bumble Tree.
00:12:01Everyone likes bumblebees, right?
00:12:03Totally.
00:12:04I have.
00:12:08What, you don't like my pun?
00:12:10That stinks.
00:12:12Are you done?
00:12:13Almost.
00:12:13I'm working on something
00:12:14with a honeycomb over,
00:12:15but it's not quite there yet.
00:12:18Eh, let's hope it never arrives.
00:12:21Uh, we have a few minutes
00:12:23before the decorating starts,
00:12:24so I'm gonna go check out
00:12:24the competition.
00:12:25Okay, just behave yourself.
00:12:29Hmm.
00:12:31Okay.
00:12:40Angie?
00:12:41David!
00:12:43I didn't expect to see you here.
00:12:45Well, I-I didn't either.
00:12:47Blair and I signed up last minute.
00:12:48Oh.
00:12:50How's Abigail?
00:12:51Um, she cried a little
00:12:53on the first night,
00:12:54but she's getting used to us.
00:12:56So you came to watch the contest?
00:12:58Oh, uh, sort of.
00:12:59Because that's Blair and me
00:13:00set up over there.
00:13:01I'm just scoping out
00:13:02the competition in the meantime.
00:13:03What do you think?
00:13:05Well, I mean,
00:13:06the balsam farm is clearly
00:13:07underwatered in its juvenile years.
00:13:09Oh, clearly.
00:13:10And the scotch pine
00:13:11and Norway's Bruce Apache.
00:13:13That Arizona cypress
00:13:14is a ringer from out of town
00:13:15and the three Douglas firs.
00:13:16They're just gonna have to
00:13:17split the Douglas fir vote, so.
00:13:19Rookie mistake.
00:13:20Mm-hmm.
00:13:22To be honest,
00:13:23the only tree I'm really worried about
00:13:24is this one.
00:13:25It's got strong, healthy branches,
00:13:28piney fragrance,
00:13:30liable needles.
00:13:31I mean, you can tell
00:13:31this tree was clearly loved.
00:13:34Almost seems familiar.
00:13:35It should.
00:13:36You sold it to us.
00:13:38Abigail?
00:13:39Yeah.
00:13:40Oh, wait.
00:13:41You didn't say anything.
00:13:42You didn't really give me the chance.
00:13:44So you joined the contest?
00:13:46Uh, yeah.
00:13:47But not by myself.
00:13:48Daddy!
00:13:49Gabby?
00:13:50You remember my friend Angie?
00:13:51Hi.
00:13:52Hi.
00:13:52We're not really decorators,
00:13:54but Gabby here
00:13:55heard about the competition
00:13:56and begged me to enter.
00:13:58So we picked out a tree
00:13:59and here we are.
00:14:01Well, with Abigail on your side,
00:14:02I might have to
00:14:03step up my game a little.
00:14:04Oh, yeah.
00:14:05You really played yourself
00:14:06on that one there, didn't you?
00:14:08Sure.
00:14:15Thank you all for joining
00:14:17the 21st annual

00:14:23Christmas Tree Decorating Contest
00:14:26Quarterfinals!
00:14:29Decorating will begin in just a minute,
00:14:31but first, a reminder of the rules.
00:14:33There are three rounds of competition.
00:14:36First round, freestyle.
00:14:38Decorate your tree
00:14:39with the theme of your choice.
00:14:41Five trees will move on
00:14:43to the semifinals,
00:14:44where the contestants
00:14:45will be given a surprise theme
00:14:4748 hours before the competition.
00:14:49And finally, three trees
00:14:51will advance to the final round,
00:14:54held in our historic town hall,
00:14:56with the same theme every year,
00:14:59the meaning of Christmas.
00:15:01And, of course,
00:15:02the winner's tree will be lit
00:15:03on Christmas Eve in Town Square.
00:15:06So, test those lights,
00:15:08untangle that garland,
00:15:09and get ready to get festive!
00:15:15Oh, good luck.
00:15:16You too.
00:15:26All right, contestants, it's time.
00:15:28On your marks.
00:15:30Get set.
00:15:34Decorate!
00:15:34Let's go.
00:16:47So, we just need to beat out eight other trees plus David.
00:16:51Easier said than done.
00:16:52Come on, I already hear our trees getting some good buzz.
00:16:55You are incorrigible.
00:16:57Look, Daddy.
00:16:58Look at that.
00:17:01Wow.
00:17:02It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
00:17:06Oh, so he can do it?
00:17:10Uh, we're calling it Flight of the Bumble Tree.
00:17:12It's so pretty.
00:17:14Aw, thanks, Gabby.
00:17:15And you did a very beautiful job dressing Abigail.
00:17:17She looks like she's ready for the parade.
00:17:19Okay.
00:17:23Come on, Gabs, we better get back.
00:17:28Angie, I hope we win, but I hope you do too.
00:17:37Could she be any more adorable?
00:17:39Not without a warning label.
00:17:41Oh, incoming.
00:17:43Hello, Angie.
00:17:44Blair.
00:17:45Tell me about your tree.
00:17:47Ah, well, it was inspired by Flight of the Bumble Bee.
00:17:49Bee-themed colors and a thousand tiny musical notes, just like the song.
00:17:54Very clever.
00:17:56I hope we didn't bumble it.
00:18:00Oh, I just love the honeycombs.
00:18:02What a sweet touch.
00:18:06Thank you, ladies.
00:18:10David Mitchell.
00:18:12It's been a while.
00:18:14Too long.
00:18:15Yeah?
00:18:15You haven't changed a bit.
00:18:17Don't try to butter up the judge, dear.
00:18:19Tell me about your tree.
00:18:20Well, her name is Abigail, and we got her from our friend Angie.
00:18:24Right.
00:18:25It's our red, white, and blue spruce.
00:18:27My dad and I decorated it.
00:18:29Fourth of July is our favorite holiday.
00:18:30After Christmas, of course.
00:18:32Of course.
00:18:33We wanted it to look like an exploding firework.
00:18:36Well, I'm surprised I don't hear a boom.
00:18:40Very nice tree and very nicely done, Gabby.
00:18:46Well, folks, I have to say, the competition has never been stronger.
00:18:52Let's give it up for our contestants.
00:18:57Without further ado, our fourth runner-up and first qualifier,
00:19:02our winner, A Candy Cane Christmas.
00:19:07Our third runner-up, Christmas with the Nutcracker.
00:19:15Our second runner-up, The Twelve Days of Christmas Tree.

00:19:45Oh, congratulations, and thank you to everyone who participated.
00:19:49Semi-finalists will see you next week.
00:19:53I'll be back.
00:19:54Okay.
00:19:56Congratulations.

00:19:59Guess so.
00:20:02Nicely done.
00:20:03What a wonderful start to the competition this year.
00:20:06I can't wait to see what you two come up with next week.
00:20:09I can't wait to hear the theme.
00:20:10You know the rules.
00:20:1248 hours before the competition begins.
00:20:14No one gets a special advantage.
00:20:17But something tells me you don't need one.
00:20:29What are you smiling at?
00:20:31I'm not smiling.
00:20:33Okay, just help me take the tree down.
00:20:35Make sure Dad's waiting for us at the nursery.
00:20:37Yeah, better not be late.
00:20:39Okay.
00:20:46We won! We won!
00:20:48Oh, wow!
00:20:49Congratulations!
00:20:51Maybe you guys want to tackle my house next?
00:20:52Oh, I don't know about that.
00:20:53Why not?
00:20:54Well, it's a lot of work putting everything up,
00:20:56bringing it back down.
00:20:57Besides, we're not here that long.
00:21:01Hey, why don't you go see if we have enough wood
00:21:02for the fire tomorrow night?
00:21:04I told you, those decorations are in my basement
00:21:07if you want them.
00:21:07Come on, Lil.
00:21:08When did you take your Christmas lights on last year?
00:21:10Mmm, just in time for Easter.
00:21:12You know how much I work.
00:21:13I do know.
00:21:14That's why I don't want to leave you with a mess to clean up.
00:21:15Mmm.
00:21:17Hey, has Gabby said anything to you
00:21:18about what she wants for Christmas?
00:21:20She keeps saying she can't decide.
00:21:22What kind of a kid doesn't have a Christmas list a mile long?
00:21:25Yours.
00:21:36Angie?
00:21:37Is everything okay in here?
00:21:38Don't come in here! I'm wrapping your gift!
00:21:41Okay.
00:21:42I'm trying to wrap your gift.
00:21:46Mmm.
00:21:47Mmm.
00:21:49Oh.
00:21:52The new slippers I asked for.
00:21:54How do you do that?
00:21:55I was trying to disguise it.
00:21:58As what?
00:21:59Oh, it was, uh, it was evolving.
00:22:02Hmm.
00:22:04Angie, your mother was the best gift wrapper I ever met.
00:22:09You remember the year I needed a new briefcase?
00:22:11And she wrapped it to look like a bike?
00:22:14Yeah.
00:22:16She had a gift for making ordinary things beautiful.
00:22:21You know, I learned early on I was never gonna be able to keep up with her on that front.
00:22:25But I also learned I didn't have to.
00:22:28I found my own way of doing things for your mother.
00:22:32My own way of showing her how much I loved her.
00:22:36It didn't always look the way hers did.
00:22:40But, as your mom said,
00:22:43it's what's inside that counts.
00:22:48Don't worry.
00:22:49I'll act surprised.
00:22:52I'm not.
00:22:53I'm not.
00:22:54I'm not.
00:22:54I'm not.

00:30:57Look at all these angels in evergreen.
00:31:00Tell me about your tree.
00:31:02We have 100 angels in our tree.
00:31:05My dad and my Aunt Lily helped me make them.
00:31:07Oh, and we have one on top, but we didn't make that one.
00:31:10Well, I'm very impressed.
00:31:13I noticed you had a little bit of a late start today.
00:31:16Yeah, we had some car trouble.
00:31:18My dad got a flat tire, but our friend Angie picked us up
00:31:21so we could still decorate our tree.
00:31:26Well, Angie sounds like a very good friend.
00:31:29I better go see what her tree looks like up close.
00:31:34Angie, Blair, tell me about your tree.
00:31:38Well, our angels are the people of our town.
00:31:40Oh.
00:31:41Yeah, we have Mr. Bird, who's run the library for over 50 years.
00:31:45And Dr. Wolf, who gives free piano lessons to anyone who can't afford them.
00:31:50And my mom, who made sure anyone who came into the nursery left with a smile on their face.
00:31:56So, our angels are the people of Green Pine Grove.
00:31:59That's lovely, Angie.
00:32:02I understand you had a little delay as well, and you lost your angel on top.
00:32:07I was nothing, just helping a friend.
00:32:10Well, it's a big risk to take for a friend.
00:32:15Well, some friends are worth it.
00:32:20I would like to thank all of our semi-finalists for their beautiful decorating.
00:32:25What a wonderful way to show our community's Christmas spirit.
00:32:35Our first qualifier, in third place, Angie Waldron and Blair Boland.
00:32:45In second place, our second qualifiers, David and Gabby Mitchell.
00:32:56And in first place, our final qualifiers, Tonya Motley and Colin Fleming.
00:33:07We'll see you at the finals.
00:33:10And don't forget our gala to celebrate our finalists this weekend, right here at the pavilion.
00:33:28Congratulations.
00:33:29I feel like we cost you the ribbon.
00:33:32So you didn't knock our angel off?
00:33:33No, but if it wasn't for us, then you'd have time to fix it.
00:33:36So I definitely owe you one.
00:33:39You definitely do.
00:33:42Do you want to come for dinner?
00:33:45I'm sure Angie already has plans for dinner, guys.
00:33:48No, she doesn't.
00:33:52It was five o'clock.
00:33:54I will bring dessert.
00:33:57See you then.
00:34:02What?
00:34:08What are you doing in there?
00:34:09Trying to find something to wear.
00:34:11Don't you think this is just a little over the top for a date?
00:34:15It's not a date.
00:34:16It's just dinner.
00:34:17Can't find my red sweater.
00:34:19That cashmere cable knit?
00:34:23Just a guess.
00:34:24Uh, you let me borrow that, remember?
00:34:26I had that interview.
00:34:27That was last Christmas.
00:34:29And you're just now missing it.
00:34:32Right?
00:34:33My fault.
00:34:34I'll bring it back.
00:34:34Okay, that doesn't help me tonight.
00:34:35What am I supposed to wear?
00:34:37What about what you have on?
00:34:38I can't wear what I have on.
00:34:40I wore this to tree decorating.
00:34:42And?
00:34:43And I need something else.
00:34:45For a date.
00:34:46It's dinner.
00:34:48Well, you're putting a lot of thought into this outfit for just dinner.
00:34:51Okay, well, you don't get to have an opinion after you stole.
00:34:55Uh-uh-uh.
00:34:55Borrowed.
00:34:57My favorite sweater.
00:35:01What do we think?
00:35:02Too fancy?
00:35:04No.
00:35:05It's perfect.
00:35:07For a date.
00:35:09It's not a date.
00:35:11Okay, if you say so.
00:35:13It just seems like you're cleaning my house a lot.
00:35:18As for example.
00:35:21I just want to make sure everything's tidy.
00:35:22It's called being hospitable.
00:35:24Oh, so now your big sister is dirty and inhospitable?
00:35:27No.
00:35:28Just...
00:35:28Okay.
00:35:29David, put down the dustpan.
00:35:32Okay.
00:35:33Come on over here.
00:35:35Take a deep breath.
00:35:37The house is clean.
00:35:39Dinner's in the oven.
00:35:40Why don't you just relax?
00:35:42Oh, perfect.
00:35:43Help me get under the couch.
00:35:45Me.
00:35:51Well, look at you.
00:35:54Where are you off to?
00:35:55Just, uh, dinner.
00:35:57With David Mitchell.
00:35:58A date?
00:35:59No, no, no, no.
00:36:01No.
00:36:01Here.
00:36:02Take the ginger gate bridge with you for dessert.
00:36:06Aw, it's almost too pretty to eat.
00:36:09Okay.
00:36:09I-I-I said almost.
00:36:13Blair, you want to stay and help me get started on the, uh, leaning tower of ginger?
00:36:18Can I eat all the leftover gingerbread?
00:36:21You drive a hard bargain.
00:36:22I know what I'm worth.
00:36:24I should head out.
00:36:26Okay.
00:36:27Bye, sweetheart.
00:36:28Drive safe.
00:36:30Enjoy your date.
00:36:32Have a date.
00:36:35What?
00:36:36Marshmallows are good.
00:36:37Oh, definitely.

00:36:43Hi.
00:36:44Angie, come in.
00:36:44Hi.
00:36:45I hope everyone likes gingerbread.
00:36:48Who doesn't like gingerbread?
00:36:50Wow.
00:36:51Can we eat it?
00:36:52After dinner.
00:36:53Can I take your coat?
00:36:54Sure.
00:36:55I don't think it'll fit you.
00:36:58I got you.
00:37:00Uh, so how have you been, Lily?
00:37:02Busy.
00:37:03I'm covering some extra shifts at the hospital so some of the other nurses can travel for the
00:37:07holidays.
00:37:08Aunt Lily works in the nursery.
00:37:09So do I.
00:37:10My babies need to be changed less often, but...
00:37:14I'm so glad you two reconnected.
00:37:17My house has never been cleaner.
00:37:20Lily, shouldn't you be getting to work?
00:37:22Got a few minutes.
00:37:26Well, dinner should be ready in a bit.
00:37:28Can I help you with anything?
00:37:29No, no.
00:37:30I think I got it.
00:37:31Come on.
00:37:31I'll give you a tour.
00:37:32Okay?
00:37:34Be sure to look under the couch.
00:37:39And this is my room.
00:37:42This is Aunt Lily's goldfish, Bruno.
00:37:44She's letting me take care of him while we stay here.
00:37:46Oh, nice to meet you, Bruno.
00:37:48How do you do?
00:37:52Oh, is this your mom?
00:37:55She's really beautiful.
00:38:06You know, it was just about a year ago when I lost my mom.
00:38:11Does it make you sad?
00:38:13Every day.
00:38:14I miss her so much.
00:38:17I miss my mom, too.
00:38:21But, you know, if my mom were here, I know she wouldn't want me to be too sad.
00:38:25So I try to find reasons to be happy.
00:38:29Like finding good homes for my Christmas trees, like Abigail.
00:38:34Hot cocoa by the fireplace with my dad.
00:38:37Making new friends, like you.
00:38:42I'm so sorry you lost your mom, Gabby.
00:38:46But, it really does help to have a friend who knows what it feels like.
00:38:49So thank you for being that friend for me.
00:38:57Dinner's ready.
00:38:59Dinner's ready.
00:39:00Ready?
00:39:08Ugh, that was delicious.
00:39:11Thanks.
00:39:12Gabby and I like cooking together, don't we, you guys?
00:39:14I like helping my dad in the kitchen, too.
00:39:16You know, he spends the entire Christmas season making his gingerbread masterpieces.
00:39:21Last year, he built the statue of Gingerty about this high.
00:39:24Really?
00:39:25Mm-hmm.
00:39:27There's nothing quite like hot cocoa and gingerbread on a snowy night.
00:39:32Mm.
00:39:33What?
00:39:34You used to like the snow.
00:39:37Guess I've been in Florida a little too long.
00:39:39Got used to the sunshine.
00:39:40Well, Florida sounds beautiful, but there's nothing quite like a white Christmas.
00:39:44Sledding and ice skating, snowmen.
00:39:47I've never built a snowman.
00:39:48Really?
00:39:49How old are you?
00:39:51Ten.
00:39:52Okay, you're telling me you've gone ten years of your life without building a snowman?
00:39:58Well, I say gear up, because we're doing it.
00:40:03You heard her, Gabs.
00:40:05Gear up.
00:40:13Okay, we just need a corncob pipe, coal, and a magic act.
00:40:18We don't have any of those things.
00:40:20What kind of household do you run in here?
00:40:23Okay, that's fine.
00:40:24We will use my mom's secret snowman recipe.
00:40:27Snowman recipe?
00:40:28Mm-hmm.
00:40:29We will need raisins for the eyes, candy cane for the mouth, and a carrot for the nose.
00:40:34I'll be right back.
00:40:40I haven't seen her this excited in a long time.
00:40:43Well, snowmen have that effect on people.
00:40:45You're pretty good with kids, huh?
00:40:46Well, I don't know if I'm good with them, but I really like them.
00:40:50Just something so genuine about kids.
00:40:53Remind me to not take things so seriously.
00:40:57You're building a snowman on a weeknight.
00:40:59How serious can you be taking things?
00:41:00Okay, some things need to be taken seriously, like snowmen and Christmas trees.
00:41:05Sunflowers.
00:41:08Sorry, but I had to ask.
00:41:11I have called everyone I can think of.
00:41:14I know.
00:41:15Okay.
00:41:16You're back.
00:41:18We didn't have any raisins or candy canes, and we ate all the carrots.
00:41:23So I have some olives, pickles, and ketchup.
00:41:28All right, that's perfect.
00:41:30That is the perfect first-time snowman building recipe.
00:41:34Let's do this.
00:41:35Come on, Gabs.
00:41:37There's the pickle.
00:41:38Guys.
00:41:39He looks funny.
00:41:43Okay.
00:41:44Okay.
00:41:45Your scarf.
00:41:49Yeah.
00:41:51Whew.
00:41:53Gabby, you are a natural at building snowman.
00:41:56Daddy, can we take a picture?
00:41:58Of course.
00:42:00Okay, guys.
00:42:01Everybody say pickle.
00:42:03Pickle!
00:42:03Whoa!
00:42:16Come here, Gabs.
00:42:19Hey, why don't you go brush your teeth?
00:42:21Dad.
00:42:22Gabby.
00:42:23Okay.
00:42:27She is such a sweetheart.
00:42:30Yeah, she's a good kid.
00:42:33Last couple of years have been tough on her.
00:42:35Losing your mom.
00:42:37That's why we decided to come back home for a while.
00:42:40I thought it'd be nice for her to be her own family.
00:42:43It's a lot for a little kid to handle.
00:42:46It's a lot for anyone to handle.
00:42:51Yeah, losing Gabrielle.
00:42:53Yeah, losing Gabrielle.
00:42:56Felt like losing a part of myself.
00:43:01You know, I keep telling Gabby we're gonna be all right, but...
00:43:08But?
00:43:10What if...
00:43:11What if I'm doing it wrong?
00:43:12What if I don't know how to do this without Gabrielle?
00:43:16From where I sit, Gabby's a pretty amazing kid.
00:43:21And you're a pretty amazing dad.
00:43:28I've...
00:43:28I've been so worried about her since her mom passed, but...
00:43:33It's just good to see her laughing tonight.
00:43:37Just being a kid.
00:43:42I brushed my teeth!
00:43:43Let me see.
00:43:45Oh, I'm blinded!
00:43:47What are you, a professional toothbrush?
00:43:49Say goodnight, sweetheart.
00:43:50Goodnight, Angie.
00:43:52Goodnight.
00:43:53I'll come talk again.
00:43:55Okay.
00:43:57Angie?
00:43:58Will you be back?
00:44:00Oh, God.
00:44:05Well, will you?
00:44:10Soon.
00:44:20Goodnight.
00:44:27Gabby, have you asked Santa for anything for Christmas?
00:44:30No, I just want sunflowers.
00:44:32Well, maybe you should think of something else you'd like, just in case.
00:44:36But I don't want anything else.
00:44:38Gabs.
00:44:39When can Angie come over again?
00:44:42I don't know, sweetie. We'll have to ask her.
00:44:44She's got her store and her own dad to take care of.
00:44:47He can come, too.
00:44:49You really like being around her, huh?
00:44:51Yeah.
00:44:53But...
00:44:53Why?
00:44:54I like being around you when you're around her, Chip.
00:44:58Goodnight, Daddy.
00:45:00Goodnight, Gabs.
00:45:03Love you.
00:45:11Hey, you don't have to do that.
00:45:13I don't mind.
00:45:14You're a lemon.
00:45:15Really, I...
00:45:19Got it.
00:45:24Uh...
00:45:25So where are all your Christmas decorations?
00:45:28You just noticed.
00:45:32Well, truth is, Gabrielle was always a decorator in our house.
00:45:37Christmas, Easter, Halloween, President's Day.
00:45:41She just loved to celebrate.
00:45:44No matter the occasion.
00:45:46Since she's been gone, I...
00:45:49I don't know.
00:45:50Guess I just haven't felt much like celebrating.
00:45:54Hmm.
00:45:55What does Gabby think?
00:45:57I think Gabby's a little too young to remember decorating.
00:46:00Besides, we're leaving in a couple weeks, so...
00:46:03Oh, great.
00:46:05Back to Florida.
00:46:08Like, it's just...
00:46:10Hmm.
00:46:11I know your life with Gabby is different than it used to be.
00:46:14But I still think it's worth celebrating.
00:46:22Lily must have inherited our parents' Christmas decorations when they moved.
00:46:26This stuff is great.
00:46:28Well, most of it.
00:46:30Ooh.
00:46:35Whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you doing?
00:46:37Setting up Christmas Village.
00:46:40Okay, the ice rink goes in the center.
00:46:42I guess I didn't realize Christmas Village had such strict zoning laws.
00:46:46I'm just trying to do Christmas the way my mom did.
00:46:49I don't want to forget.
00:46:52Angie, I knew your mom.
00:46:53There's no way anyone could forget her.
00:46:57Well, just make sure people don't have to walk too far to the rink, okay?
00:47:02Couldn't dream of it.
00:47:06Aw, what is this?
00:47:09Uh, that's nothing.
00:47:10You made this.
00:47:11It's adorable.
00:47:13We can put it there.
00:47:16David and his best friend, Angel.
00:47:21Wow.
00:47:23You keep thinking.
00:47:25I don't want you to forget me, either.
00:47:32Hey, did you send me some gingerbread?
00:47:35Oh.
00:47:37Sorry.
00:47:39Oh, you're home.
00:47:41Did you get off work early?

00:47:45Oh, wow.
00:47:46I didn't realize it was so late.
00:47:48I should get home.
00:47:51Uh, can you just put the school next to the rink, you know, for the kids?
00:47:56Where else would it go?
00:48:05Okay.
00:48:07Good night.
00:48:08Good night, Lily.

01:07:10And remember, part of the judges' decision is based on the votes of you, the audience.
01:07:17Contestants ready?
01:07:19On your marks, get set, decorate!
01:07:40Thank you very much.
01:08:22Time!

01:08:27We will announce the winners at 5 o'clock.
01:08:30It's beautiful, Ange.
01:08:32I couldn't have done it without you.
01:08:38Angie, Blair, my goodness.
01:08:40Please tell me about your tree.
01:08:41Well, my favorite memories of Christmas are of my mom.
01:08:45Baking, wrapping presents, decorating.
01:08:48She always made sure everyone around her had the best Christmas possible.
01:08:51So, I wanted to decorate this tree in her memory.
01:08:55Roses were her favorite.
01:08:56Honoring my mom and what Christmas meant to her, that's what Christmas means to me.
01:09:01Well, I have to say, you've outdone yourselves.
01:09:04It's simply beautiful.
01:09:11David, Gabby, another beautiful presentation.
01:09:15Tell me about your tree.
01:09:17Well, this Christmas was different than the last couple of years.
01:09:25We decided we couldn't pick just one thing to represent the meaning of Christmas.
01:09:29So, we have ornaments of everything we did this Christmas.
01:09:32Decorating the tree, drinking hot chocolate, and building a snowman.
01:09:38Well, it is simply superb.
01:09:40Beautifully done, David and Gabby.
01:09:42Thank you for your tree.
01:09:57Let's have one more round of applause for our finalists.
01:10:04This has been the toughest decision I've made in my years as a judge.
01:10:08It came down to the voters and they had a clear favorite.
01:10:11Can I have a drum roll, please?
01:10:15The winners of the 21st annual Green Pine Grove Town Square Christmas Eve Festival of Lights Christmas Tree Decorating Contest

01:12:50Yeah.
01:12:51Why do you ask?
01:12:53Well...
01:12:54Mainly because your gingerbread house is looking more like a gingerbread pile.
01:13:03Sorry.
01:13:03I'm just a little distracted.
01:13:06Would this have anything to do with David?
01:13:10i knew this christmas was gonna be tough but then david and gabby came here and i just thought maybe
01:13:18and now i'm losing them too all i wanted for christmas this year was to win that contest

01:15:45but it's christmas isn't about
01:15:48the way she did things
01:15:51it's about the why
01:15:55she did those things for us because she loved us
01:16:01we don't have your mother this year but the one thing we do have
01:16:05is the love she gave us

01:16:53Blair, what are you doing here?
01:16:54I could ask you the same thing.
01:16:56I thought we were close today.
01:16:58I just wanted to come in and get ahead on some things.
01:17:02And get your mind off of some others?
01:17:05Angie, what happened?
01:17:08Things were going so well with you and David.
01:17:10And he's leaving tonight.
01:17:14He didn't tell me.
01:17:16And I didn't tell him.
01:17:17Tell him what?
01:17:21Doesn't matter.
01:17:24I have something for you.
01:17:30What is this?
01:17:31Present.
01:17:32I was gonna wait and give it to you after Christmas when we reopened, but...
01:17:38New aprons?
01:17:41Oh, I'm gonna look good in this.
01:17:44Yes.
01:17:46Angie's so soft.
01:17:49Thanks, Ange.
01:17:51I still don't see what's wrong with the old ones, but...
01:17:58But maybe you were right.
01:18:01Maybe I don't have to do everything exactly the way my mom did.
01:18:05Maybe it's okay to let go of some things, as long as I hang on to the ones that really
01:18:10matter.
01:18:11Well, speaking of the ones that matter...
01:18:14Angie, you really need to talk to David.
01:18:16Why is that?
01:18:19Because...
01:18:22I don't know what to do with six dozen sunflowers if you don't.
01:18:27What is this?
01:18:29I may have gotten in touch with Morgan's Nursery in North Dakota.
01:18:33Pulled a few strings.
01:18:34Spent a small to medium fortune on shipping, and...
01:18:37Gotten you your sunflowers.
01:18:39Blair!
01:18:40I just know how much it meant to you, and I just wanted to show you...
01:18:44How much you meant to me.
01:18:45Okay, well, this makes the aprons look very sad in comparison.
01:18:52Well, what are you waiting for?
01:18:55Let's call David.
01:19:01No.
01:19:03What?
01:19:05What do you say to one last decorating adventure?
01:19:22Where's Angie?
01:19:24I don't know, sweetie.
01:19:26Thank you all for coming this evening for the tree lighting.
01:19:29Before we begin, our winner, Angie Waldron, would like to say a few words about her tree.
01:19:35Angie?
01:19:40Thank you, everyone.
01:19:41I, uh, I really appreciate your votes.
01:19:45But I'm not so sure I deserve them.
01:19:52I lost my mom last year, and I wanted to decorate this tree in her memory.
01:19:56Roses were her favorite.
01:19:59But I realized I was missing something.
01:20:02I have been so focused on trying to hold onto her memory that I almost lost sight on what she
01:20:07loved most about the season.
01:20:10The way it brings people together.
01:20:12Families and friends.
01:20:15Communities.
01:20:16Strangers.
01:20:18So today, with the help of a very special friend, I redecorated the tree.
01:20:24To, uh, remember my mom the way I think she'd want to be remembered.
01:20:28As somebody who knew Christmas isn't about the way you do things.
01:20:33Christmas.
01:20:34It's about the why.
01:20:36Christmas is because of love.
01:20:39And love brings people together.
01:20:42And sometimes it means giving up what you thought you wanted to make room for something even better.
01:20:49This is for you, Mom.
01:21:03So I hope this tree brings you all as much joy as it brings me.
01:21:06And I hope you remember that this Christmas season isn't just about joy and hope.
01:21:12But it's about love.
01:21:14Merry Christmas.
01:21:15Merry Christmas.
01:21:26It was beautiful, honey.
01:21:28I am so proud of you.
01:21:30And I know your mother is too.
01:21:32Thanks, Dad.
01:21:34I think real life is waiting for you.
01:21:55Thank you, Angie.
01:21:56Of course, Gabby.
01:21:59That was a nice speech.
01:22:01I actually have one more.
01:22:05David, for half of my life you were my best friend.
01:22:07You knew me better than anyone and now you're back in my life.
01:22:11And I don't want you to go.
01:22:12I want you to stay here in Green Pine Grove.
01:22:15I know you have your life back in Florida and you're heading home soon, but I...
01:22:21Something tells me we're already home.
01:22:24What about your job?
01:22:26I'll figure something out.
01:22:28Keep working remotely.
01:22:30Maybe you can hire me at the nursery.
01:22:34It doesn't matter where I am, Angie.
01:22:36Wherever it is, I just want to be there with you.
01:22:57I think you can become a flower here.
01:23:04The flowers.
01:23:07Everything.
01:23:08Magic.
01:23:09Perfect.
01:23:10I think it has the flower here.
01:23:12Right?
01:23:14Great, Tony.
