00:00Vinny, do you want to go first?
00:01Yeah, sure. Andy, good to see you.
00:04Andy, can you bring us up to date as to where you're at as regards sorting out your future
00:08and how likely you are to still be here next season?
00:11I don't think today's the day to discuss that.
00:16I think 24 hours before a massive Champions League game,
00:21I don't think anyone should really be talking about the future.
00:24We've got such a massive game ahead of us.
00:27I know it's a boring answer, Vinny, and I can only apologise for that,
00:30but my full focus is being a part of this team,
00:35is trying to get through tomorrow night.
00:38We've obviously gave ourselves an uphill battle,
00:40and I think full focus has to be on that.
00:44There'll be time to talk about my future, but I'm not sure today's that day.
00:47What do you feel, then, is the mindset among the group at the minute?
00:50Have you been able to find reasons as to why you've not quite been able
00:53to produce that consistency this season?
00:55Yeah, look, it's a frustration.
00:57I think we're all frustrated at the fact that we can't find the consistency
01:01because last season that's probably what set us apart from everyone in the league.
01:06That's why we ended up winning the league pretty comfortably,
01:10and it's hard to put your finger on why we've not been able to get that consistency this season.
01:14So it's been a huge frustration for all of us.
01:17We've all been trying to put our finger on it.
01:19We've all been trying to demand it, trying to keep working towards it,
01:22but for whatever reason, we've not quite found it yet.
01:25But we can't give up trying.
01:27We need to keep trying to fight through it.
01:29We need to try and keep finding that consistency
01:31because that's the only way we can try and turn this season around.
01:35I know time's running out.
01:36I know games are running out.
01:37But I suppose we've got a chance tomorrow night to get in the quarterfinals
01:41of the Champions League, which would obviously be good for us.
01:45We're still in the FA Cup, and then we have to sort out our league form.
01:49That's a fact.
01:50But we won't give up on it.
01:53We'll keep trying to find the answers towards that,
01:55and hopefully we can find it sooner rather than later.
01:58As you say, tomorrow is such a big opportunity and a big night for the club as well.
02:01But there was a reaction at full-time here at Anfield on Sunday.
02:05How does that impact you guys as well?
02:08What concerns do you have that the fan base is maybe getting restless at the moment?
02:12I don't think we have concerns over that.
02:15The thing that was most disappointing was our fans left unhappy.
02:19I think since I've been here for nine years now,
02:23our aim is always to be sending our fans home happy
02:25because when they go bounding out Anfield, we know we've done our job.
02:28And I think in football that gives you the biggest satisfaction
02:30that people are heading back into the pubs or back to their families that night
02:34happy with what they've seen on the pitch.
02:36And Sunday they weren't happy, and neither were we.
02:39And I can completely understand that.
02:42But in terms of tomorrow night, it doesn't worry me at all
02:46because Anfield under the lights, our fans being in that stadium,
02:51they've been here before, and they'll be here many, many times in the future as well.
02:55And, you know, they always produce special nights.
02:58You know, we've been very lucky to have so many over the years that I've been here.
03:01And I don't think tomorrow night will be any different.
03:04But we have to give them something to shout about.
03:06We have to give them something to cheer.
03:08We have to give them something to get off their, you know,
03:10off their chairs and off their seats.
03:11And if we can do that, then we know the Liverpool fans react off that.
03:17It doesn't take them much, which is a credit to them.
03:19You know, they cheer, you know, a lot of things and even the basics.
03:22So, you know, they'll be right behind us tomorrow night,
03:25but we have to give them something to get behind.
03:27You've got to touch on it.
03:29The bottom line is the opportunity is there to still deliver a couple of trophies
03:32and deliver Champions League qualification.
03:35Yeah, of course.
03:36And that has to be, you know, that has to be the aim in terms of qualification, definitely.
03:41And with trophies, even when we were in amazing moments in, you know, 18-19 or 19-20,
03:49we never looked too far ahead.
03:50So we can't discuss if, you know, of course we have dreams of winning the trophies,
03:54but we have to focus on the next game ahead.
03:56And we've always worked on that.
03:58So tomorrow night is a massive game for us.
04:01We have to do everything we can to win that game.
04:04And then if we're in the quarterfinals, we'll focus on the quarterfinals
04:06and, you know, keep going like that.
04:08And that's always the way we've worked.
04:09But in terms of Champions League qualification, this club demands it.
04:13You know, this club demands it.
04:15The fans demand it.
04:16Like we said, we've got such a good relationship with the Champions League.
04:19And, you know, this club has to be in the Champions League year in, year out.
04:23I think when I've been here, there's only been one year that we failed
04:26and it was a difficult season.
04:27And, you know, hopefully that's not going to be the case this season.
04:31Thanks, Andy. Good luck.
04:32Top one.
04:38Hi, Andy.
04:39I think in those few questions there, you used the word massive three or four times.
04:45And you've played in some big games.
04:47You've played in the final.
04:49Just how pivotal could this game be?
04:53I mean, it seems mad to say it's the last 16th Champions League second leg.
04:56But, you know, it could determine the season as a whole, really,
05:02in terms of, you've talked about Champions qualification and how important it is.
05:07Yeah, look, the Champions League's always been important to this football club.
05:12And obviously, last season, we failed at this hurdle.
05:15But I suppose we were protected at the fact that, you know,
05:18we were quite a bit ahead in the Premier League.
05:21And it looked as if this point last season that we were going to be Champions,
05:25it was probably a matter of when, not if.
05:29You know, this season we don't have that.
05:31So, we believe that this squad's good enough to be in the last eight of the Champions League,
05:35but we have to go and show it.
05:36I don't think we showed it enough last week.
05:39I thought we struggled at times all over the pitch.
05:42So, the performance level has to go up.
05:45And we know that.
05:47But if we do do that, then I believe we're a good team on the day.
05:50And I think we've shown that this season.
05:52In the Champions League, we've had good performances.
05:54And we need to go and show that again.
05:55And if we do that, then, you know, I believe that we are good enough
05:58and we can be in the last eight of the Champions League.
06:00So, it's a massive game because it's the next game.
06:02The next game's always the biggest.
06:04But it's also a massive game because, you know,
06:06we believe that we can get through the tie
06:08and we believe that we can go into the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
06:11And you're a step further from achieving your dreams.
06:14So, that's why it's massive.
06:16That's why it's big.
06:16And, you know, we're looking forward to it.
06:18And it's up to all of us to produce a good performance.
06:22And if we do that, then hopefully we send our fans a lot happier,
06:25you know, home a lot happier than we did on Sunday.
06:28Roger, it's been happening.
06:30Andy, what's the manager like in this sticky period now
06:34or this lack of form compared to what he was like last season
06:38when everything was going so well and the consistency was there?
06:42Yeah, look, obviously we never really, I don't think we really hit a bump in the road last year.
06:47You know, everything went probably as smoothly as you could have imagined
06:50in terms of his first season, but also in terms of our season.
06:54This season's been a bit more up and down, that's a fact.
06:57But he's stayed calm.
06:59He's stayed, you know, he's obviously trying to find answers as well.
07:02You know, him and all the experienced lads were trying to put our finger on
07:06why the consistency's not been there.
07:08And, you know, he's probably trying to find it, you know, the most
07:11because, you know, obviously he's the manager and that's his job.
07:14So, but he stayed, you know, he stayed calm and he stayed, you know,
07:18he's trying to find the answers and everyone's trying to help him
07:21and we're all pushing in the same direction.
07:23But, you know, obviously the pressure's a bit bigger than all of us at the minute
07:27because the results aren't there and that's football.
07:30You know, you have to perform, you have to get the results.
07:32And when you don't get that, then the scrutiny's bigger.
07:35So, I think he's obviously faced a bit more scrutiny than he,
07:39well, a lot more scrutiny than he did last year.
07:41So, of us as players and it's up to us to stand up to that.
07:44We're all good enough to be at Liverpool and it's up to us to show that.
07:48And, you know, if we do that, then I'm sure we can turn the tide back
07:51towards, you know, the way we want it to go.
07:55Andy, I think you touched on it just earlier there, like,
07:57Anfield European night, sort of racing out of the blocks.
08:00But do you feel like the style of play this season makes that a bit harder?
08:03I mean, it's certainly something that's frustrated the fans.
08:07Some of our performances have made it harder.
08:10I wouldn't say in terms of the style of play.
08:12I just think sometimes we've made, you know, probably too many mistakes
08:16or we've let the opposition get the first chance.
08:21You know, and I think that's what's been the frustration probably within Anfield.
08:25And it's been the frustration on the pitch as well as, you know, in the stand.
08:29So, it's not necessarily the style of play.
08:32It's just at certain games we've not been probably quite on it from minute one.
08:36I think tomorrow we have to be, you know, especially in a knockout competition.
08:40I think you can't really waste any minutes, really, within the game,
08:44especially in a second leg.
08:46I think we've wasted a few minutes in the first leg.
08:51And that's why we're behind in the tie.
08:53But we've now got another 90 minutes, at least, to try and go and put it right,
08:57to go and try and win the game first and foremost,
08:59and hopefully get enough to win the game in 90 in aggregate.
09:02But if not, then you can go to extra time, you can go to penalties.
09:06But our full focus has to be winning the football game in 90 minutes.
09:10And then we'll take whatever comes to us, you know, after that.
09:14Hi, Andy.
09:15You mentioned sort of the scrutiny and now with social media and things like that,
09:19it's constant, constant pressure.
09:20I mean, how are you as a squad sort of able to deal with that?
09:23And obviously, as one of the more experienced players,
09:26do you maybe have a role with Virgil, with Moe,
09:28and sort of keeping the young players sort of level-headed amidst all of that scrutiny?
09:33Yeah, it's a lot different.
09:34Look, obviously, even probably since I came to the club,
09:38you know, social media and, you know, platforms within these,
09:43you know, within these apps and things like that have got bigger and bigger and bigger.
09:47And, you know, as the experienced lads, we are pretty good at blocking it out.
09:52We've had years of practice of it.
09:54Maybe the younger players, you know, haven't had that experience or the exposure to it.
09:59So we're trying to help them from the start of the season.
10:03And we've seen probably huge improvements in all of them in terms of, you know,
10:08after the game, never getting too high, never getting too low.
10:11You know, one week you can be, you know, the best player in your position in the world.
10:14The next minute everyone wants you out of the club.
10:16But that's the way of football goes.
10:17And I think it's important for our younger players, our new players and things like that,
10:22to not try and listen to the outside noise as much.
10:26Because, you know, we're all good players.
10:29We're at Liverpool Football Club for a reason.
10:32And it's up to us to show that on the pitch.
10:34But it's also, you know, you can't get caught up in, you know, we know what it's like.
10:38And you can't get caught up in it.
10:39And if you're Googling your name or you're searching your name or whatever, you know,
10:44it's having these discussions with these lads saying, you know,
10:47I think as humans work, you could read 99 nice things about you.
10:50You read one bad one, it's the one bad one that sticks with you.
10:53And that's what we've been trying to tell the young lads
10:55and trying to keep them going on that and trying to keep them, you know, level the whole season.
11:00And I think we've seen massive improvements in that since the start of the season to now.
11:04And they'll only get a better wage, you know, in terms of dealing with that.
11:07But also as footballers as well, which will help them massively as well.
11:11Well, Phil, then there's two at the back and then one on the other side.
11:14Hi, Andy.
11:15I just wonder, when talking about, you know, talking to the more inexperienced players,
11:19do you draw on some of the past experiences you've had in the Champions League,
11:22particularly turning around a deficit from the first leg like you've got to tomorrow night?
11:27Yeah, of course.
11:29You know, I think the one that comes to mind is obviously Barcelona.
11:32Now, we were 3-0 down that day and nobody gave us a chance.
11:36I think, you know, a lot of people still give us a chance in this tie.
11:40So, yeah, of course, you have to rely on your experience.
11:43You have to rely on lads that have, you know, have been in this position before
11:48because that's what's going to help us, you know.
11:51And then you obviously have the young lads and things like that maybe haven't experienced it
11:54to bring that fresh energy and that no fear.
11:57And that's when you get, you know, the right balance within the squad.
12:01So, tomorrow night it's important that we show up the best version of ourselves.
12:05And if we do that as a team, then I believe we've got enough quality within our change room
12:09to win the game of football.
12:10And that's all we can focus on.
12:11Because with the aggregate score, it's not as if we have to go chasing goals or whatever.
12:15We have to win the game of football tomorrow.
12:17And if we do that, then it gives us a chance to get through.
12:19And I think that's got to be the main aim for starters.
12:22And then, you know, the lads are really good at feeling within the game.
12:26You know, if you're on top, you keep on top.
12:28And then we've probably not been good enough this season at killing teams off.
12:32You know, I think Sunday we weren't good enough at, you know, when we were on top
12:35to kill Tottenham off.
12:36And then we gave them confidence and confidence.
12:38And then they believed that they could get something and they ended up getting it.
12:41So, I think we need to be better at that.
12:44And, you know, hopefully we can do that tomorrow.
12:45If we do get on top, then we stay on top.
12:47And, you know, hopefully we're the ones going through.
12:49First place.
12:55Mustafa Mandel TV, bu spor.
12:58Şunu sormak istiyorum.
13:15Teşekkürler.
13:15Do you think also should be these special compulsions against each one of our players that should be?
13:24Yeah, I think obviously, you know, we've obviously been beat off them twice already this season.
13:31But they were also away from home.
13:33And, you know, obviously credit to the Galatasaray fans.
13:36I think they made, you know, a really difficult atmosphere for us both games over there.
13:41But now it's our turn to be at home.
13:44And I think, you know, we've always been a different team at home.
13:47And hopefully we can show that tomorrow night.
13:48But in terms of certain players, I think as a team, Galatasaray are a very strong team.
13:54I think they have quality all over the pitch.
13:57They, you know, they have pace up front.
14:00They look secure at the back.
14:01They've got a hard-working midfield.
14:03So, it's about us just winning our battles, trying to be better against the players that you're up against.
14:08And if we do that, then I believe the quality we've got in our squad is enough to shine through.
14:14And if that happens, then, you know, I believe the goals will come and we can win the game.
14:46Yeah, I think, look, I think they're trying to win.
14:48I think the advantage for them in that game was obviously they had their home support behind them.
14:52And, you know, they reacted off that.
14:55And, you know, I think they created, you know, really difficult atmosphere and things like that.
14:59But also, the players produced two really good performances.
15:02And I think we were below par in both games.
15:07And I don't think tomorrow we can afford to be below par.
15:11I think we have to be, you know, we have to be better in the two games that we've already
15:15played.
15:16And if we do that, then I believe, you know, we can show the real Liverpool that we've shown at
15:21times this season.
15:22And, you know, that's a difficult team to play against.
15:25So we have to show that tomorrow night.
15:27And if we do that, then I believe we've got more than enough quality in our changing room to, you
15:32know, to flip this tie.
